(the usual -I did a search and found nothing -disclaimer :eyebrows: )

In the middle of replying to another post, I was struck how actually similar these two characters truly are.

For example, each comes from a foreign place of birth, each is brilliant and lives a life devoted to logic. Each struggles with human emotions, and has needed to expend great effort, in order to fit in and be part of the team. Each is pivotal player for their 'captains' success.

what do you think?

Obviously not. What exactly is the point of this thread? Sure they're alike but that doesn't prove a thing.

You could probably relate many characters from millions of other stories in any media form together, personally I think it is rather unsettling how much Voldemort and Kermit the frog have in common...

Even from a literary comparitive view I still do not think that Hermione and Spock are the same, Spock is a completely different breed to start with, at least all wizards and muggles are human. Hermiones doesn't struggle with human emotion either, she definately knows more about it than Harry and Ron.

While the notion of Hermione as Spock is amusing, I do not see great enough similarity to warrant exploration
1- Hermione is no more foreign than the rest of the students at Hogwarts- spock is a different Species (Vulcan)
2- Hermione has no trouble with emotions- she interprets Chos for the bos, she cries for happiness and she certainly gets testy
3- Hermione does not devote her life to logic- she once uttered the words (whell something like this) I think we should go to bed before you get us all killed, or worse expelled

Spock was given a lot of Kabbalah stuff to do as part of his charactor in Star Trek (including the live-long-and-prosper hand sign thingy) which I do not see in Hermoine.

In what way is Hermione 'foreign'.
And who is this Spock being?

Spock is a character from Star Treck, and that's as much as I know. But I think you guys are getting just a teeeny too technical with this. Okay so Hermione doesn't run about telling everyone to live long and prosper, but the other similarities are quiet amusing. While she's as human as the rest of us, 9 times out of 10 she'll look at things logically before "feeling" about them....I don't know ANYTHING about star treck so I think this is the part where I run out of the thread whilst you throw rocks at me. Later then :)

Voldemort and kermit the frog??? Now what has Kermit ever done to deserve being grouped together with someone like that eh? Pray tell what similarities do you see between them??

I agree with many I don't see many similarities between Hermione and Spock! She doesn't have pointy ears and is not extremely pale nor does she come from another planet so I don't think she is spock in disguise sorry chick!!

:rotfl: I love that! Spock in disguise... I've never thought about it before though, it is certainly thought-provoking to say the least!

*Too lazy to read back*

Sure Hermione and Spock may have similarities, but there's one main thing that both show to be very different with. Emotion. Spock doesn't really know of it, Hermione is a really emotional girl that cries when happy, sad, angry, "frightened" or overwhelmed.

Maybe Spock feels emotion and just doesn't want to show it. i mean, if he were overly emotional the other star trekkers might not think so highly of him.

But of course, the true reason is because he's a Vulcan. They don't know of emotion. Watch the old eps of Star Trek, Spock on there sometimes questions some emotion shown by the others.

true enough, but maybe that's the big Vulcan secret. the put up a big tough front, but in actuality they love to frolic in the meadows and dream about unicorns and faeries.

edit:: okay, that just ruined my mental image of spock. could you actually imagine him doing that?!?! scary!

Kirk: Um, Spock...why are you frolicing in the meadows?

Spock: Live a little Jim, this is fun! (Laughs)

Kirk: Bones, what do you make of this. (Spock is now talking about cute things, like Hello Kitty [don't ask lol]) Fix it!

McCoy: Darn it Jim, I'm a medical doctor, not a psychologist!!

Spock: (Continues to Frolic while the others look on in pure and utter shock)
edit:: okay, that just ruined my mental image of spock. could you actually imagine him doing that?!?! scary!Hmm, if Spock started doing that, I would think that he got a hold of some "Wacky Tobacky" :rotfl:

This is great!

I'm afraid I'm going to have to close this, though. Unfortunately not much sensible discussion can come from this thread, but you've amused me if that's any consolation.

Very clever.
