I need to know if there is a place where you can get a complete gryffinfor uniform in adult sizes?

This post should probably go somewhere else, the Common Room maybe?? This forum is for plot related threads.
I don't know where you can get the whole thing, but Gryffindor ties have been selling on ebay. You could always just try to piece the uniform together yourself. Maybe find something that looks like robes and buy a Gryffindor patch (with the tie on ebay) and put it on the robes yourself.

well, I've only 42 days to prepair for the 12:01 book parts, and I will NOT show up with a hair out of place. My cloak is completed, my scarf almost so, but I need accessories. If I could get a cane/wand like Lucious's, that would be excelent, other ideas for accessories for the older slytherin alumni? Thank you.

I have made part of a uniform. Making it and/or searching everywhere for little parts is the best way to go. Keep an eye out at any Thrift shops. That's where I bought my sweater, and I just sewed on the Gryffindor colors. At my thrift shops they have lots of good sweaters in the mens section. And like Ronfan said, ebay is good.

Being the HP freak that I am, stopping to look everytime I see somthing HP or that looks like HP, i have collected allot of stuff. I have 4 wands, 2 light up, one had candy in it and red stuff comes out the end(not blood), and one I got in this costume pakage. I am to tall for the cloak that came with it, and my friend got her mom to make her a cloak(oriocookie) so I am going to ask her to help me make one myself. As for a scarf, I am learning to knitt because I found a site that has a pattern for a scarf, I found a grey skirt at value village and my granny gave me and OLD sweater of my dads from when he was a kid and it looks like the one they use in the movie. So all I need is to make a robe, get a white shirt with a caller(I cant spell) at the top, ether make a tie or buy on e-bay, some how get patches, and vwalla! yes, i am about half way to being hermione, i even have somthing like what I think the time turner is gonna look like. And again, being the HP freak I am, I made a wand box one weekend when I was bored. Its amazing what you can make when your bored! Ya, I dont know how to help anyone wanting to get a costume.......... just go garagesaling and thrift shopping!

It's easier to make a costume than it is to find one in an adult size. You can buy the scarf at hpwizardstore.com, the tie is available at a michigan college bookstore, the wands are easy to get from Alivans, and the robe is a simplicity pattern.
Here's me as Ginny Weasley at the release party. I won third prize (I did an actual spell...ACCIO HAT! My friend, who went as McGonnigal, threw me her hat as I thrust my wand in her direction). My friend won first prize - a free copy of the book.

I don't know if any of you guys have these in the malls near your houses, but we have (especially around the holidays) $5 tie stands in just about every mall. Before the CoS movie came out, I bought a gold tie and a silver tie. I then went to a craft store and bought green and red fabric paint. Using masking tape, I taped off stripes and I made a Slytherin tie and a Gryffindor tie for under $10 each.

There are sewing patterns you can alter to make a 'movie like' robe. I'm using McCall's #3663. Just change the hood to the collar like in the movie and remove the points from the sleeves.

as halloween approaches, i have slowly developed a gryffindor girl costume and i am almost finally done. :)
i sewed the robe with my mom using a modified McCall's patter and gabardine material. i bought everything else. i know, im so unoriginal. a true cosplayer would sew the whole thing lol.
heres some advice to looking for hard to find items:
*gryffindor patch - ebay - $12
*gryffindor tie - ebay - $18
*gryffindor sweater - www.wizarduniforms.com - $55 ( kinda pricey) they also have sweaters for the other houses. i bought an XS, and it was still a little big, so i put it in the drier for 15 min and it now fits perfectly ^_^
*gray pleated skirt - http://frenchtoast.com - only $10!!!!!!!!!!! - they have kids sizes and junior's sizes and plus sizes. i got the kids size cuz it was a little cheaper and it was a little shorter. i still had to get it hemmed though. fast shipping
*wand - www.thewandshop.com - WAY better than allivans! - i got my wand for $17.50, but they are as cheap as $12!!!!!! i love mine. there is even a "unicorn tail hair" insert ;) also extremely fast shipping. i payed for standard shipping and i got it in 4 business days! plus it was only 2 weeks before halloween!
*gray knee socks - still searching!!!!
*white blouse - in the closet ;)

The plain white school shirts are dead cheap and can be bought in any school outfitters. So can the skirts and socks. For the ties and jumpers, your best bet is to read school prospectuses on the net until you find a school whose actual uniform matches. Then go to their school outfitters (or write to them)
Moss Bros used to make up ties and college scarves (for a price) in any colours you asked for about 12 years ago when I was responible for getting them to make up ones for a Cambridge University Society.

I take it when you say the uniform, you mean from the films. I'm guessing not the books because it's easy to find or make plain black robes (aaah the wonder of black bedsheets). But you never know.
If it is the film costumes that you're after, then if you want to be really cheap you could just buy the jumper and skirt/trousers from a school uniform shop (you can find some online). It's not exactly right, but nobody would notice. There aren't many places that have school ties in a lot of the house colours (though I'm sure there might be a yellow and black one some where, if you want to be a Hufflepuff) so you'd have to make do yourself. And then you could drape something over you with a house crest badge sewn on it :D

This is a great topic!
I think Warner Brothers is literally throwing money away by not jumping on this. Idiots! This would be a gold mine!
I was wondering actually about the cloaks they wear. They look really cool with those clasps in the front at the chest rather than at the neck like I've seen before. Or was that the robes that fasten in the front? They still look really cool.
Maybe some fashion designer should jump on this and try to re-introduce cloaks as current fashion :)
morgan le fay
October 25th, 2003, 6:42 am
well xray, WB has jumped on the costume business, but they are doing a shoddy job. the only costume component that they sell is the robe, and i guess its because they assume that its easy enough to find a gray pair of trousers or skirt, a white oxford, and a gray sweater. they could definitely make money off it, and there must be some reason that they arent pursuing it.
LOL it would be awesome if cloaks were the new IT item! then it would be GROOVY for me to wear my newly sewn HP robe all the time! oh, and those clasps u talked about, im pretty sure theyre called "frog" closures. i bought them for my costume and they look almost exactly like the ones in the movie, only the ones i bought a are little smaller.
Cape/Cloak/Robe = cool :)

Since I was unable to find robes like in the films, I found a pattern instead and made my children and my friends children robes just like in the movies. Right now, I am waiting for her to print out a patch to put on them. They look super cool. They have the cuffs and the hood and I even managed to find these clasps for the top that are nifty!
Then for myself, I have ordered (and it has been on backorder since before June!) Professor McGonagall's hat. I just finished making myself a floor length cloak in emerald green velvety material with a black slik lining! Very cool. It even has a gold tassel on the hood.
And they weren't that hard to make either. For the student's robes, I got the material in the clearance section and it was super cheap. The kids love them!
As for wands, we just took a dowel rod and some shaker pegs and made our own. We stained them too. They are cool.

I just found a pattern close to the real thing and for the patch, I just printed out the crest and made it a pin. People were staring , it was hilairious.
Windstar
October 29th, 2003, 3:04 am
I like the idea of just printing out the crest and making it into a pin! That would work for the kid's robes! My friend has yet to print them out on the special fabric iron on paper I bought. I think I will try that! I don't have color ink so I was waiting on her to print them out. I could always have the kids color them with colored pencils right?

Now that it's past Halloween, and the POA trailers are out, is anyone working on the new version of the uniform? See photos here:
http://www.digicasey.com/FirstLookPOA.html
I am desperately looking for a tie, but to no avail...even after hours of searching through men's clothing websites. It looks to me like the skirts/trousers and sweaters are black now, and the girls are wearing black tights from what I saw. And the robes are lined with the house colors now, too. But I guess I can't be sure until we see more photos or a new trailer.
Also, (just as a tease, because you can't order this stuff outside of Japan) take a look at what WB sells in Japan! It totally sucks that they don't sell all of this in the US. They would make a killing. Just click all around the site (it's in Japanese so most of us probably can't read it) to see what all they have.

I wanted to post some updated links to help out the newbie costumers. Some of the links pertain to both SS/COS style and POA style...others are just POA. I'm sure there are lots more links out there; these are just the ones that I frequent or have heard reference to. If anyone has more links or information, please add on. I haven't listed wands, as they seem to be pretty easy to find, but feel free to add those, too.
(*Please note that I have not ordered from most of these personally and I recommend checking references before dropping a lot of money on anything.)
Do-It-Yourself and Basic Info
Madame Malkins Yahoo Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MadameMalkins/) - This is a fabulous group of HP costumers. You'll have to go through the message archive to see a lot of the info, as I'm not sure they have it all in a single FAQ yet. But they've got great advice and almost all have made costumes; many make costumes from different interests. Also links to good places to buy costume pieces, photos, patterns, etc.
HP Knit Yahoo Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HPKnit/) - Also an excellent group, obviously focused on knitting costume pieces (sweaters, scarfs, socks, etc.)
HP Cosplay LiveJournal (http://www.livejournal.com/community/hp_costuming/) - Another costuming group. Some info overlaps, but this seems to be a younger crowd.
HP Prop Site (http://b17.ezboard.com/fpropreplicasfrm84) - Prop replica board, also shared with Back to the Future for some reason, but has some info on making prop replicas.
Padawan's Guide (http://www.padawansguide.com/mycostumes/harrypotter.shtml) - Ok, I know it's a Star Wars name, but there's info on HP costuming, SS/COS-style
Wizard Ties POA Costume Info (http://www.wizardties.com/costuming/) - Here's the baisc info on the POA-style costume
References
POA Reference Photos (http://knit.atypically.net/other/poaref/) - Lauren is a knitter and has patterns; you can also order from her. But she also shares this great page of reference photos for all the costume pieces.
SS/COS Screen Captures (http://www.bunnysneezes.net/bludgeonthis/page3.html) - Lots of screen caps from the first two movies.

Pretty much perfect response. If you are from the UK getting hold (price notwithstanding) of suitable kit is not too hard. My old school and plenty of schools I visited on matches have/had clothes close to or identical (bar the badges) the Hogwarts uniform.
You may find some luck of you try the charity shops as they do have second hand uniforms sometimes.

Right now I'm knitting a Weasley sweater in maroon (basically just a simple, oversized sweater), a PoA scarf for Ravenclaw, and one for Gryffindor. I made a costume several years ago by using a black graduation gown and adding trim and a homemade Hogwarts patch. It worked great - had very billowy sleeves and everything!

I was able to get several photos of Hermione's white hooded sweater/jumper. It appears to have two ravens (or eagles) on the front, and one larger one on the back.

I would love it if the costumers would put out patterns of all of the wonderful knitted items in the HP films, especially of everything Weasley!

Well, for Halloween my brother was Harry Potter. We found a great costume at Target. It was a Gryffindor robe with a patch. You could always make one from scratch. I know Joanne Fabrics has popular costume patterns. I'm sure you could find something there.

I got Simplicity Pattern#4866 for to make robes for my kids. Butterick also has a robe pattern in both child and adult sizes, but Wal-Mat doesn't carry Butterick. :upset:
Now I just have to find the right fabric. The pattern suggest velour (ugh) but that would make them too shiny. I may just buy some cheap black polyester since it'll be easy to wash and my kids are likely to get them VERY dirty as they will play dress-up in them for quite awhile.

knitnpurl, when I sewed my HP robe last fall, I bought Gabardreme, which is like a more lightweight version of Gabardine. The weave style is nearly identical to that of denim or jeans. It's durable, but not heavy at all. It does fray easily however, which is why it is important not to get lazy on the hems or inseams when you sew with it. I'd recommend it. It looks perfect texturally. :) I posted more about it on page 1 or 2 somewhere almost a year ago if you care to read more. I think I used a McCall's pattern and altered it to have longer scoopier sleeves and a taller, larger, more loose-fitting hood.

Hello all, i am first year here at hogwarts, but have some info i think you will all find interesting! Did you know that you can now buy dueling wands! you get two in a pack and can cast spells and defend via infra red link up!!! they are £19.99 from argos and i must say, they are great fun!! not as sleek as the wands at alivans but still nonetheless very entertaining! Although they are not the official spells from the series, they are still great fun!
Ps - thanks to Puchula for advising me to put this info here for you all to read!

I think it's just a normal, grey school skirt. You can get one in any uniform suppliers, John Lewis are good.

Yeah, it's just a knee-length gray skirt with some folds in it. They also wear knee-high gray socks, too (which I think are sort of weird and would hate to wear for a uniform, but I digress).

You can get cheap pleated grey wool skirts off eBay pretty cheap. I bought mine for $5.

Why if you don't mind me asking, do you need one? Are you going to one of those parties were you dress up like HP characters? Or is it a Halloween thing? just a wondering.... :)

Just wanted to pipe in here, that WizardTies (http://www.wizardties.com) has AMAZING ties & service. My Gryffindor tie arrived quickly, well packaged, and with a handwritten note thanking me for my purchase. Not to mention, the tie is perfect, and I'm picky about ties, as I wear them all the time.

I was kind of skeptical about getting some of my costume things online- because I'm just skeptical about anything regarding me buying stuff without even really seeing it first, but anyway...
I wasn't expecting it until Monday but I got my Slytherin tie and sweater this morning :D I don't know how to tie a tie, but it looks great lol I got the "original" house tie- from the first movies. And the sweater fits perfectly. Someone already mentioned, but I got these things from HP Wizard Store (http://www.hpwizardstore.com/). A little pricey, but I'm happy with the stuff. I'm in the process of making the robe because, every one I've seen, very cheesy. Very, children's-costume. Which makes me wonder if I really am to old for this...

alivans.com does have awesome stuff. Makin' a uniform wouldn't be hard either, the basics are in your uniform store. a grey pleaded skirt (for girls), slacks for boys, white shirt, vest. The only trouble I would see is the robes and ties
