View Full Version : How Are You Passing The Time Until June 21st?!?

KrazzyKid
May 12th, 2003, 1:56 am
I am re-reading all of the books, looking for clues. I also talk to my friends about theories that I've thought of..

I remember when i was younger, I used to make paper chains and rip off one piece of paper for every day that passed, and I'd watch the chain get shorter as the day I was waiting for came closer. I'm also doing that now..

What are you all doing while you wait?

:welcome: KrazzyKid! I think this might belong in the Common Room but I'll let the mods decide that one.

I am keeping a countdown in my AIM profile, talking about Book 5 with my friends constantly and keeping it as a mental reward in my head. I like your paper chain idea though and might think about doing that.

I'm not doing anything in particular, but my mom is reading the first four books for the first time, so I've been talking with her about them. She likes them.

oh, and my sister preordered the book for me today. She's getting it for me for my birthday.

Well from now till then I will reread PoA and GoF. I've also been getting into the LOTR series so I will read that too if time permits.

I'm currently in the middle of taking finals. Then I'm on break from school for 2 weeks. In that time I will no doubt be playing with kids at the park everyday (nieces and nephews). Then I will be right back in school. So I don't have too much time to sit around. But I'm going crazy none the less.

May 12th, 2003, 6:06 am
I'll be studying and doing exams. Luckily my exams finish on the 17th June just in time for the book. I'll probably read GoF during that four day window.

I am re-reading the books (I'm on CoS right now), spending way too much time on the forums, and finishing school for the year. My last final is on June 12, then I have a day or two to move back home for the summer, and a week to do more reading and impatient waiting. I'm just crossing my fingers that my parents will have gotten the internet by the time I move back. I can't imagine not spending any of that week on here. There's always the library I suppose...

I will start re-reading the series from about 12 of June. And at the moment just by being on CoS has been satisfying my need for Harry Potter.

My exams finish on June 5th. I only have 5 different days of exams, but that means that I have a lot crammed into a day. On the 19th of May I have my first exams - maths at 9, then three psych in a row, 1:30-4:30

Back on topic - I have drawn 42 HP smilies on my whiteboard, and I wipe one off each day. So then the night before there will be one left, woohoo

May 12th, 2003, 9:43 am
I have started a countdown on the family whiteboard, and a cross one day off at a time. I am constantly letting my un-Harry Potterites know how many days there is to go, to try and get them to read it.
And I have a dreamy look on my face whenever someone mentions the number 21, June or Harry Potter :)

dumbleedore
May 12th, 2003, 12:02 pm
I made a countdown chart which is above my bed and every night before I go to bed I cross off another day.

Other than that, I'm taking it one day at a time and thinking about it non stop. Hell, I heard a guy mention HP in the crowd at the footy on Sunday. And this was in a crowd of 17 000 people in the middle of the main game!

Lol! Dumblee! I defenately have Harry Potter ears, or for anything that sounds remotley like it! (Panthers are going down! :rasp: )

I can now pre-order the 5th book. It's going cost me about 40 bucks but who cares.

Right now, I'm just looking and browsing through old books.

Well, my last exam is on June, 17th, so before that I'll be studying. Another set of exams starts on June 21st (yeah, I'm lucky ;)), and before it I'll also be studying. So HP is not my priority in June.. probably later. Oh well, I won't get the book in June at any rate.:sigh:

Moderator note: I moved this thread to Common Room.:)

My last exam is June 5th, so I am okay.
I keep seeing HP references that AREN'T REALLY THERE.
Like at work, I stack the fridge foods, and there is this butter called Carpelli, and a last week I noticed that under the main name it says Firenze. I should really take a picture of this and post it on here. But what will my boss say if he catches me photographing the stock?

I also have alarms set on my phone. They start on the 21st May-1 month to go, then down by weeks and finally days, hours, minutes....

At the moment, I have so much other stuff going on that I haven't had a chance to even re-read the other books.

But - once my schedule calms down, I'll be spending my time reading some of the numerous books on my shelves, and doing some artsy fartsy type things. :D

One word...

Exams.

Luckily they finish Friday the 13th of June *coughs*

Then it's read, party, drink, read, party, drink, and did I mention PARTY!
All through my leaving book my friends mention Harry potter and how boring I am for thinking about missing a party because of it...I'm not though!

Staring at the walls with a nervous tick in my eye...

I'll probably reread the books a couple more times. Then read the new one a few times in a row...then reread the whole series again.

Potter_fan, that's exactly what I'm doing when I'm not re-reading the books!! Lucky for us, it's right on the leaky cauldron's website, so we don't actually have to count for ourselves:D

For those of you with finals right now, you're lucky, mine start right after OotP comes out, so I won't have a chance to read it right away...

:rotfl::rotfl: Oh my god, I'm not the only one! The week I found out the date, I put reminder alarms on my phone for every 21st of the month "4/3/2/1 months to go" and on June 20st it's going to go off at 11 pm and say "Are you there yet you Potterhead?" Then I have it going off on June 21st saying "I fantasize about this moment" We are so cool.

I'm passing the time by planning exactly when I'm getting to the bookstore and learning how to be more patient so I don't hall off and hit some little kid because they're in my way. Plus my finals are in two weeks so after that I'm re-reading all the books.

Filius Flitwick
May 13th, 2003, 2:53 am
Hehe, I'm probably a lot more patient than most of the posters on the boards. I'm going about my day to day business and trying not to dwell on it too much. I think I was more anxious back in 2001 when I thought it was supposed to be coming out instead of now, when I know it's going to be coming out.

So, yeah, just the normal stuff going on. Remember people, patience is a virtue.

Since you asked... going mental trying to study for final exams and get all my Uni acceptances in order! This is very stressful times for me and HP is gonna be a well deserved treat at the end for sure. That and the endless nights of partying and (UGH) headaches the morning after! ;)

How am I passing the time? By slo-o-o-o-o-wly losing my mind......:elaugh:

Seriously though, I started re-reading the series for the mumble mumblieth time a few days ago in early preparation, and am now on GoF. I plan to start it over in about the second week of June (when school will be *almost* over--yay!), and hopefully finish it up just in time for the Big Day. Until then, I'll be working on a picture that I've started drawing for my sister, of the Marauders (she's a huge Lupin and Sirius fan). Hopefully, that will slow the process of insanity...HOPEfully...

I've been out of school for two weeks now and am seriously considering borrowing some of your ideas . I like your phone idea, FoolOnTheHill, that could take up some valuable time...

But seriously, I've just been doing what I usually do when I procrastinate, except it's not procrastinating anymore since I have nothing to do!

Basically, that's browsing through CoS Forums, rereading random Harry Potter books (currently GoF), reading other books I've been meaning to read forever, staring at my countdown (it's also on the home page of my browser), and being excited every time the tens digit goes down. Oh, and planning what I'll do at the midnight release party, even though I don't know if any bookstores here are having one..

...maybe I need to get out more.

I'm actually surprised at how quickly the time has gone. It seems like only yesterday that I was complaining about the 100+ days there were to go. Now we're down to 37.

I think these 37 days are just going to fly past -- I doubt I'll have to do anything to keep me busy. I'm currently reading The Secret History and plan on re-starting the HP series soon.

We're almost there. :D

I'm a senior in high school. I have events like prom, graduation and partying coming up...plus numbers of recitals. This is so exciting!!!! I'm accually really sad that my senior year is over and I'm going to have to say goodbye to everyone. I'm going to savor the last days and then after all the graduation parties, I'll start counting down the days to HP....

I've been rereading all the HP books. And I've been reading Isaac Asimov robot novels so I won't get burnt out on HP. I especially love the novels about Elijah Baley and R. Daneel Olivaw, but this is getting off the topic . . . If you want to talk about Issac Asimov send me an owl ;)

I've reread SS and CoS. After I finish Dear Mr. Capote I'll start on PoA and GoF.
I suppose I'm living my life normally but half my mind is thinking about June 21st. As the date approaches I'll start ignoring what people say to me. "Hmm... Yes I adore Snape too." - Me
"I asked if you wanted to get a bite to eat.." - Person
"Norbert bit Ron not Harry!" - Me

Wacthing the Beatles anthology over . . .and over. I'm also calculated the number of hours until HP (and in my time zone, it's less than 900 now, which does not seem like in incredible amount of time). I'm planning on reading books 1-4 about 10 days before OotP so everything will be fresh. I suppose I pass most of my time by coming here and posting.

Mostly driving everyone around me crazy with countdowns. I've got the date circled on my small HP calender. I'm trying to avoid looking at spoilers....but my resistance is slowly fading. I don't think I'll make it another 37 or so days without finding out something.

I feel like I should be doing more...but basically I'm just starting to get back into the swing of fandom. I'm learning to be a fan again. :)

School gets out on June 7th for me, though we don't really have to come to school that day. My last exam is on the 6th -- Chinese History. I'm so happy that's the last class I'll be in before summer, because I absolutely adore my teacher, and all my friends are in that class! Anyway, exams are every day that week, so I'm afraid I'll be WAY too stressed to concentrate on HP at all.

I'm turning in applications for summer jobs tomorrow, so I'll probably be starting my first summer job soon. I'm scared! That's also taking up valuable Harry-thinking-time.

Anyway, I'm listening to the books-on-tape at night until school gets finished, at which point I'll start actually reading the books, starting at whatever point I left off on in the audio version.

I too have Potterears.

I was in the canteen, in the middle of a food fight, and somenody whsipered Harry Potter.

I also saw this complete stranger reading GoF and I had to fight the impulse of asking him how he thought it was os far.

Other than looking out for anything potter related I'm trying to persuade (or force) as many people as possible to read HP.

I'm planning on reading GoF again , but i haven't found the time so far because I have few books to read for school. But I'm not really doing anything special like a countdown or something. Oh and as the CoS dvd is released on 5th of june here, it'll help waiting.

How am I passing the time? By trying really hard not to think about it.
But that of course doesn't work. So I'm just trying to stay sane:)
I've decided not to read the books again till the week b4 the 21st.
Since I havent read them since Dec. I think it will make them even more fun to read. Of course its also been pretty hard to go so long without reading them but oh well.

Combinations = Coose, therefore

i hear you loud and clear...why oh why does the exams have to be the week after the book comes out????

well any way i am passin gthe time making up stupid theories of how the book will start/end and practically what is gonna happen.

it really does work but then it makes you wanna read the real thing more and anticipated the smell of the new book, and just the way it looks and that all your answers will be answered as soon as you start.

also knowign that all the answers to your questions will be answered. oh heck!! makes me even more determined to get my hands on it!!

I've written down my theories too - I have around 40. And a sort of self-made Christmas calendar from which I take away a piece a day till 21st June.

I also HOPE some library has enough sense to begin to sell the books as soon as possible here where I live. I can't order it: they would take too many days to reach here.
