Your Personal DH Soundtrack

I'll forever have NIN 'Hurt' in my head when reading, or even thinking about 'The Prince's Tale'. For those unfamiliar with it, here's the song

What songs did you have in your head reading certain chapters? Or what songs do now remind you of something you read in DH?

I was listening to Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter" after finishing DH and that really reminded me of The Prince's Tale. I'm not even entirely sure why

30/30 - 150 by Stone Sour reminds me of the Hogwarts battle, as it describes the uprising of a generation.

"They call us a dead generation,
They told us that we wouldn't survive,
They left us alone in the maelstrom,
As you can see we're all clearly alive,
We know where you are and we're coming"

And i've just realised that 'Through the glass' by Stone Sour would fit in well with the Miror of Erised in PS.

the night before the release I drove to my parents town and on the way I listen to the OotP sound track. Then while in line I had it on my MP3 player just in case someone shouted out a spoiler. So when I read the book I had it very much in my head the Umbridge theme really sticks in your head and it just started playing as soon as she turned up.

In the forest, when I thought that Harry was going to his death, "Going Home" by Libera played in my head.

Going home going home
I am going home
Quiet like, some still day
I am going home

It's not far, just close by,
through an open door
Work all done, care laid by
never fear no more

Mother's there expecting me
Father's waiting too
Lots of faces gathered there
All the friends I knew

I'm just going home

No more fear No more pain
No more stumbling by the way
No more longing for the day
Going to run no more

Morning star lights the way
Restless dreams all gone
Shadows gone, break of day
real life has begun

There's no break, there's no end
Just living on
Wide awake, with a smile
going on and on

Going home Going home
I am going home
shadows gone break of day
real life has begun

I'm just going home

As soon as the final battle at the school started, the first song that popped into my head was Battle of the Heroes from the final fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I don't know, the music was very dramatic and powerful and just seemed kind of fitting.

I keep re-reading the sweeter moments in "The Prince's tale" and the song playing in my head was Aqualung's "Strange and Beautiful"

You'd be so perfect with me but you just can't see,
You turn every head but you don't see me

I'll put a spell on you and you'll fall asleep
I'll put and when I wake you
I'll be the first thing you'll see and you'll realize that you love me

During the battle at Hogwarts, I had the rock-sounding song from 300 playing in my head!

Does anyone around here happen to know Xavier Naidoo's 'Sie sieht mich einfach nicht'? Such a perfect song for describing Severus' unrequitted love for Lily

erm... for the better understanding, the lyrics describe a young man's feeling of his complete inadequacy for the woman he loves, that everything about her is gracious and queen-like, and how he is never a king, how the closer he gets, the more he messes it up, and how she ends up with another man who's everything the singer is not... and still 'she simply doesn't see me'. And there's so much you can change when you're ready to fight, but never this, never this.

Being an older HP fan, I find the best music to listen to is the classic "Genesis" album "Selling England by the Pound". I grew up listening to this since I was a little kid and to this day few people know about it. Its considered progressive rock and its great for reading HP because the theme of the music has that sense of wonder to it. Also Steve Hackett's "Voyage of the Acolyte" is great HP music as well. He was a guitarist for Genesis who went solo in 77. Highly recommended as well.

I can't help but hear "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey during the Epilouge. It fits really well. :D

I'm boring, I had the GOF and OOTP soundtracks on repeat mostly throughout, mixed with the dr who soundtrack. Except for the end, when I had total silence, which worked rather well for Harry walking out to meet his death

If anyone's a Buffy fan... I have both "Chosen" (from the final episode) and "Sacrifice" (from "The Gift") on my mp3 player. "Sacrifice" was playing whilst I read the "The Forest Again."

This was perhaps not the best plan D:

I also admit that I kind of had "Vindicated" by Dashboard Confessional in my head during the "The Prince's Tale." If you read the lyrics, they rather fit Snape, I think. He's the original emo kid, after all.

I love this album! "Firth of fifth" is a masterpiece! I also love "Supper's Ready" from "Genesis".

I know we never seen Tonks and Lupin die but I think Radiohead's "Exit Music" works great in this scene... especially the ending:

"Now we are one in everlasting peace" - The song talks of two lovers commit suicide together, so it kinda fits for tonks and lupin, and the final line:

"We hope that you choke, that you choke" - a last, desperate wish of revenge.

The song 'In Our Bedroom After the War' by Stars was predominantly in my mind when I was reading, and even now.
It's funny, that their new album was released so near to the release of DH, because although I know that what they are referring to through the title and throughout the album isn't related to HP in anyway, so many of those songs seemed to fit the fates of certain people so well.

I know that in ten, twenty years, I'll listen to that album and it will flood me with memories of this time.

So I went to see the musical We Will Rock You on the night of the 21st, and in case you hadn't guessed, it is all Queen music. So I had Queen stuck in my head for the last hundred or so pages of the book. Which has informed my initail soundtrack of the book.

We Will Rock You - Nevile and the DA's rebellion in general
No One But You (Only the Good Die Young)-Harry's walk into the forest to sacrifice himself and conversation with shadows/ghost-thingys of his parents, Sirius, Lupin and Tonks
Who Wants to Live Forever- The Ron/Hermione kiss- "It's now or never, isn't it"
The awsome song for the Two Towers preview, its called Requiem for a Tower, I think- The Battle of Hogwarts

I think that Mrs. Weasley, McGonnagal, and Neville's gran need a theme song, but I have yet to decide.

I thought for the end of King's Cross and when Harry comes back to life the perfect song is "One Shining Moment" by David Barrett(yea it's a song about basketball, but still, aside from the first line, it works perfectly.)

Thinking about about Snape, all I can think of is Metallica's song Unforgiven. In fact, there's a tribute video to Snape that uses this song because it fits so well - if you are interested you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIk3_xb091A

In fact, I'll never be able to think or read about Snape in any of the books without this song running through my head - it fits so well with his character.

Lyrics:

New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules

With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man strugggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away
Chorus

What i've felt
What i've known
Never shined through in what i've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What i've felt
What i've known
Never shined through in what i've shown
Never free
Never me
So i dub thee UNFORGIVEN

They dedicate their lives
To running all of his
He tries to please then all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me
Chorus

Fleur, that is really the perfect song for Snape. I think I'm going to start to cry agin. So sad and so true for him.
