Funniest lines in the films

We did worst and best so I had to do it one more time. What do you think are the funniest lines in the film?

"Chinesse Fireball oooooooooh"

"IIIIIIII KILLEEEEEEED SIRIUSSSSSSSSS BLAAAAAAAAAAACK" (not the line itself but delivery)

"You dare speak his name? YOU FILTHY HALFBLOD" (Once again delivery)

"Dumbledore's got style"

"Hermione I hate your cat"

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

I got a few:

"I didn't know you could read."

"Follow the spiders? Why couldn't it be follow the butterflies?"

"The spiders want me to tapdance! I don't wanna tapdance!" ("You tell those spiders, Ron")

"Why are you always eating?"

"I think I'll have some pudding"

<any nargle line>

"I'm going to bed before either of you can come up with another brilliant idea to get us killed. Or worse... expelled."

"Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon."

Ron: Follow the spiders, why not follow the butterflies...

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

Hagrid's, "I shouldn't a told ya that" lines in the first film were good.

In the dark forest -
Draco: "Okay, then I get Fang!"
Hagrid: "Fine. Just so you know, he's a bloody coward"
Made me laugh but I love Fang anyway :)

C.O.S -

Prof. Sprout: "Oh, Longbottom's been neglecting his earmuffs again"
Seamus: "No ma'am, he's just fainted"
Prof. Sprout: "Yes, well, just leave him there"

P.O.A -

Lupin: "Severus don't be a fool... "
Sirius: "He can't help it. It's habit by now"
Lupin: "Sirius, be quiet!"
Sirius: "Be quiet yourself, Remus!"
Snape: "Listen to you two, quarrelling like an old married couple"

G.O.F -

I love Moody's entrance.
Dumbledore is all like, "My dear old friend, thanks for coming", and Moody just mumbles, "Stupid ceiling"

Ron: "Hey, Hermione... you're a girl"
Hermione: "Oh, well spotted(!)"

McGonagall: "Mr. Potter, are you and Miss Patel ready?"
Harry: "Ready, Professor?"
McGonagall: "To dance! It's tradition that the three champions-well in this case four- are the first to dance. Surely I told you?"
Harry: "No"
McGonagall: "Oh. Well, now you know"
Dame Maggie Smith can be really funny as McGonagall, it's the little looks she gives.

OOTP
Hermione: Why don't you just wear it? (talking about the Christmas sweater from Mrs. Weasley)
Ron: Because I'll look like a bloody idiot, that's why.
Hermione: No different from usual.

 I just caught that a few days ago when I went to see the movie again.

GOF
Cedric Diggory: Harry, how are you?
Harry:  Spectacular.

Hermione: The key is to concentrate. After that you just have to...
Harry: Battle a dragon.

Harry: Who could possibly figure that out? It's completely mental.

POA
Sirius: Why don't you run along and play with your chemistry set!:lol:

Ron: Sp-Spiders...They want me to tap dance. I don't want to tap dance.
Harry: Well tell those spiders, Ron.

COS
Draco: Reading? I didn't know you could read.

Vernon Dursley: I'm sorry. It's my nephew. He's very disturbed. Meeting strangers upsets him.

Ron: Oh, that would be a cheerful conversation. 'Hey Hagrid, have you been setting something mad and hairy around the castle lately?'
Hagrid: Mad and hairy? You wouldn't happen to be talking about me, would you?

SS:
Hermione: By the way, you've got dirt on your nose. Just there.

I giggled quite hard at this one - hard pressed to keep it quiet in the theater:

Umbridge: Is there something you'd like to say, Minerva?

McGonagall: Oh, there's plenty I would like to say!

Leslie33 August 29th, 2007 5:26 am

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

Snape in OOTP "I may vomit"
Draco in COS "Reading, I didn't know you can read".
Sirius in COS "Run along and play with your Chemestry Set!"
Ron: Oh, that would be a cheerful conversation. 'Hey Hagrid, have you been setting something mad and hairy around the castle lately?'

Also, the "You can't deny it Minister, Dumbledore's got style." I found it was delivered quite slowly, and that made it funnier because I knew exactly what Kingsley was going to say

Hermione: "You found it Neville: the Room of Requirement. It becomes available to anyone who really needs it"
Ron: "So say you really needed the toilet... "
Hermione: "Charming Ronald. But yes, that is the general idea"

*lol* I liked that - and it's something I'd ask too! (as my dad kindly pointed out in the middle of the cinema!).

I also really liked Filch in the first movie, as mentioned - "God I miss the screaming....."

aw GOF has a few I love the Harry/Cedric exchange

Cedric; How are you
Harry: Spectacular.

But there are plenty of giggles in GOF.

But hands down out of all five movies its

"Read? I didnt know you could read"

the delivery, tone of his voice, and expression on his face - pure brilliance!

In GoF, as they are all reaching their tent and all pile in leaving Harry till the last, and he looks at what is clearly a 2 man tent, yet all these people have just gotten in, thinking like there's no way, and he pulls the flap back to find a 5 room tent with all kinds of furniture in it.

Harry just grins, and says to himself, "I love magic!"

"That's rubbish!" Twins GOF (a giggle line, it's not an overly great line or anything spectacular, but it made me giggle the first time I heard it...I wish they'd kept in Fred's "No JOKING!" line, though).
The Durmstrang kid booing over Harry taking second in the second task of the tournament (I don't know why, but the solitary boo makes me giggle).

In Socerors Stone, everything said by Uncle Vernon, after the first letter is pure gold, especially the Sunday line, his facial expressions along with delivery are amazing. In Chamber of Secrets, I love the line " Interesting place, do you live here?" Lockhart was gold in that movie. In Prisoner of Azcaban, gotta love "the spiders want me to tapdance, I don't wanna tap dance" "You tell those spiders Ron" "Yeah, yeah I'll tell um":rotfl:. Hmm...

PS
"No post on Sundays! *laugh*"
I just love Ricard Griffiths little "haha!" after that, it's so hilarious!

CoS
The entire scene with polyjuice!Ron and polyjuice!Harry. Every single thing Tom Felton did in that scene was awesome. Gotta love that hammy acting!

PoA
"The Grin? What's the Grin?"
"Not the Grin, you idiot, the Grim!"
I don't know why, but everytime I hear that I burst out into laughter, which is increased when random kid comes on and is all omens and catching smoke and stuff.

GoF
"You know the Prefects Bathroom on the 5th floor?"
*Harry nods*
*lol* It's so random, why would he know that? It sounds like he's talking about the Huffepuff common room, or something more well known, not the bathroom!

OotP
Voldemort: "Aah?" (when he's dueling with Dumbledore and realizes his glass spell didn't work).
:rotfl: Oh. My. Gosh. That probably was the funniest things in the entire series. His face! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Ah In GoF after the first task when all the Gryffindors are celebrating in their common room and Ron's trying to explain how he really told Harry about the dragons and then Harry makes this face and says something along the lines of,

"How could I have gotten that - that's completely mental."

I love that part.

Oh and in OotP when Ron and Hermione are skulking around in the background of Grimmauld Place on Christmas.

lol, love that.

I always laugh at Snape and his "obviously" line in OotP, I've been going around the past two months quoting it whenever possible

and I like the shrunken head in PoA, anything he says, especially about clentching your bottom it's boing to be a bumpy ride and the did you hear that Earn, the Leaking Cauldron, that's in London lines

I love the "Obviously" line. He just oozes menace and disdain.

I really liked this conversation.

Harry: You're sure about this, Neville?

Neville: Absolutely.

Harry: For an hour?

Neville:....most likely.

Harry: Most likely?

Neville: Well, there is some debate among herbologists as to the effects of
freshwater versus seawater--

Harry: You're telling me this now?! You must be joking!

Neville: I just wanted...to help....

*A few moments later*

Neville: You seem a bit tense, Harry.

Harry: Do I? *through clenched teeth*

- Right before the second task, GOF

I love just about anything the twins do, especially in the books.

even though it's incredibly cheesy I love the scene where they give Harry the map

How they trade lines back and forth is awesome!

GOF stuff:

Twin 1: Try saying that five times faster. Bumbling babbling band of baboons!
...etc.

or...

Note: Get a move on or all the good ones'll have gone.

Ron: Who are you going with, then?

Fred/George: *tosses paper at Angelina* Oi, Angelina.

Angelina: What?

Fred/George: Do you want to go to the ball with me?

or....

Ron: Blimey, Harry, you faced dragons! If you can't get a date-

Harry: I'd rather take the dragon right now.

or...

Cedric: So, how are you?

Harry: Spectacular.

I love the last one simply because Harry is so stiff and sarcastic when he says it.

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

The whole scene in GoF when Ron is talking to Harry about getting dates and he looks at Hermione and goes "Well, Hermione. You're a girl." "Well spotted." And then Snape keeps hitting them in the back of the head. It is so brilliant.

Also in GoF when the champions walk into the Great Hall and Padma goes "Is that...Is that Hermione Granger...with Viktor Krum." And then Ron says "No...no, ab-absolutely not." His face and his voice is priceless in that scene.:rotfl::rotfl:

Also the whole scene when Ron is looking in the mirror and then Harry comes in and he's like "Well your's are all right. No lace, no dodgy colar. I look like my great-aunt Tesse. I smell like my great-aunt Tesse." I love Ron.

Hermione: Is that what my hair looks like from the back?

I know some people didn't like this line being put in, but I absolutely loved it! It was hilarious, and a nice piece of light humor inserted into a rather dark movie. Also, I think of it as an homage to the Hermione of the books, who actually does have bushy hair, unlike Emma, who's always looks nice.

Oh, you are NOT alone. The amount of Harry/Cedric fanfiction that exploded after the GoF film is rather sizable. Some of it is quite good. (Some of it isn't.) But there are at least two livejournal groups devoted to the pairing (twoseekers and cedricxharry), a website (Bittersweet Symphony), and an archive (BSA). There was also a VERY funny good-natured spoof with screencaps called "Cedric Diggory is very, very gay" by Roz McClure on LJ. She uses screencaps and hysterical commentary to "prove" that Cedric is gay. It's not particularly offensive/graphic (maybe PG-13/teen), but just to be on the safe side, I won't link to it, merely note it.

Oh my god, I've killed Harry Potter!
Neville, GOF movie

Follow the spiders... why couldn't it be follow the butterflies?
Ron, COS movie

Read? I didn't know you could read.
The delivery & expression was perfect!
Malfoy, COS movie

McGonagall: ...not act like a babbling, bumbling, band of babboons!
Fred/George: Try saying that five times fast.
Other twin: Babbling, bumbling, band of babboons...
GOF movie

McGonagall: Now, Weasley, put your hand on my waist.
Ron: Where!?
GOF movie... hilarious again!

Ron: Hermione... you're a girl!
Hermione: Oh, well-spotted.
GOF movie... I love this line! Sooo funny!

Ron: Spiders... spiders... they want me to tap dance! I don't want to tap dance!
Harry: You tell those spiders, Ron.
Ron: I'll tell... I'll tell them... (snores loudly)
POA movie

Mrs. Weasley: Your sons flew that enchanted car of yours to Surrey and back last night.
Mr. Weasley: Really? How'd it go?
(Mrs. Weasley hits Mr. Weasley's arm)
Mr. Weasley: I mean, that was very wrong indeed boys, very wrong.
COS movie

Hermione: Ron wanted me to tell you that Dean told Parvati that Seamus told Dean that Hagrid's looking for you.
Harry: Well, you can tell Ron... what?
(Not as funny as the rest of them, but still funny none the less.)
GOF movie

Dumbledore's got style.
OMG perfect line!

Hermione: Breaking the rules... it's kind of exciting, isn't it?
Ron: Who are you and what have you done with Hermione Granger?
OOTP movie

Sprout: Longbottom's been neglecting his earmuffs.
Seamus: No ma'am, he's just fainted.
Sprout: Oh, well. Just leave him there.
COS movie

Ron: Oh, that would be a cheerful visit. Hello Hagrid, have you set anything mad and hairy loose in the castle lately?
Hagrid (appears from behind): Mad and hairy? You wouldn't be talking about me, now, would ya?
SS movie

Just because you have the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have.
Hermione, OOTP movie

Now I'm going to bed before either of you come up with any more ideas to get us killed... or worse, expelled.
Expelled is worse? Lol, I guess it is for Hermione.
SS movie

Harry (to Ron): How could anyone possibly figure that out? It's completely mental!
Hermione: Boys...
GOF movie

Cedric: How are you?
Harry: Spectacular.
GOF movie

Stan: What choo fell over for?
Harry: I didn't do it on purpose.
Stan: Come on then... let's not wait for the grass to grow...
Absolutely love this part! It's sooo funny!
POA movie

Weasley twin (Fred/George): What do you expect, he fell over a hundred feet!
Other twin: Yeah, Ron, let's push you off the Astronomy tower, see what you look like.
POA movie

Oh yeah, and the whole Cedric thing someone was talking about...
Cedric: You know the Prefect's bathroom on the 5th floor?
Harry: Yea?
Cedric (leans akwardly close to Harry): It's not a bad place for a bath.
Lol OMG that sounds completely messed up!
GOF movie

Obviously...
Snape - the way he says that is so funny!

Is that really what my hair looks like from the back?
Hermione, POA movie

Ginny: I think you're in love, Ron.
Fred & George & Harry: Viktor, I love you, Viktor, I do... when we're apart my heart beats only for you...
GOF movie

I'm just going to stop now. But all these quotes are simply HILARIOUS! :rotfl:

I didn't like how Shacklebolt delievered "Dumbledore's got style." It sounded rather... lame.

I also remember the "THACK!" from Voldemort. I thought that was funny, but if he had said it a bit more... sinisterly? Or some kind of hissing with cackling? That'd be better.

I love how he delivered that line! It was just so slow and matter of fact, and then the way Fudge looked at him...:rotfl:

Most people don't remember Voldy's little "huh?" thing, or don't think it's funny. I don't know it just seemed so out of place, so it became really hilarious to me.

Anothe funny line:

I can't find a screencap of the leap, as it was in the additional material on the DVD, but I've got an icon of it, which you can see HERE.

(And I'll admit that I have little interest in Harry/Draco. I know it's based on the whole love-hate dynamic, but it doesn't appeal to me. Harry/Cedric works better for me personally. :-) )

PoA:
Ron: "The spiders...they want me to tap dance. I don't want to tap dance...!"
Harry: "You tell those spiders, Ron."
Haha, gets me every time.

Ron: "You're going to suffer, but you're going to be...happy about it." Or something like that. I laughed at that part.

GoF:
In the beginning when Hermione comes into the room where Harry and Ron are sleeping. She wakes up Ron and he goes, "Bloody hell..." when Hermione wakes him up. It was really funny to me, but maybe it's because I have a weird sense of humor.

Moody: *mumbling* "Stupid ceiling..."

Also, I laughed like a maniac when Durmstrang entered the hall. The guy break dancing was just hilarious.

Also:
Cedric:"How are you?"
Harry: "Spectacular..."
HAHA, I love Daniel Radcliffe's delivery. Priceless.

Yeah. Umbridge got what she deserved. And the delivery was great.

One of my favorites was this scene from GoF. A lot of people overlooked it.

I LOVE;

cos -

Harry: Diagonelly.
Mrs Weasley: What did he say dear?
Mr Weasley: Diagonally.
Mrs Weasley: Though so,

"Dumbledore's got style."

"I see myself holding a pair of red woolen socks." - Dumbledore. (I think it's in the book, but it's still funny.)

GOF -

"Professer Dumbblydore." - Madame Maxime.

"What are you doing?"
"Teaching."
"Is that - is that a student?"

haha,

"He might have mentioned it."

god, there's so many more. (:

I love where Hermione's going;

"She's obviously sad about Cedric, guilty about kissing harry, worrying about failing her O.W.Ls, confused about liking Harry..." (etc..)

"What? That's impossible, no one can feel that much at once!"

"That's because you have the emotional range of a teaspoon."

"Everyone this is Loony, (woops) Luna Lovegood."

"I hope there's pudding." (:

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

As mentioned several times, Snape's "yes" and "obviously" lines are particularly awesome.

Mr. Weasley: "What is the function of a rubber duck?" He sounds so serious, too, which makes it even funnier.

Snape re veritaserum: "Know what it is?" His expression here is priceless... "as if". "The use of it on a student is, regrettably, forbidden, however..."

George: "Well done dragon!" *Snape and other fallen teachers get up*

Harry: "Who could've figured that out? It was completely mental."

Crouch Sr.: "Chinese Fireball, ooooo."

Sirius: "Why don't you run along and play with your chemistry set?"

Snape: "Potter and his friends may have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time," Ron + Harry = what the..., lol.

Also, Lockhart assuring everyone that they will still have their Potions master after their duel is priceless.

I know this was in the book, but it was just really well delivered in the movie:

(Referring to Harry's kiss with cho."

Ron: So...how was it?

Harry:Wet.

Just the awkward way Dan says this is hilarious.

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

Some of the funniest lines that I remember from the films :) :

OOTP

[Dumbledore has arrived at Harry's trial, which was moved up]
Cornelius Fudge: Oh! Albus... I see you got our notice about the time change of the hearing...
Albus Dumbledore: No, it seems to have been lost, but by a happy coincidence, I arrived at the Ministry three hours early.

I loved this line and the way that Michael Gambon delivered it -- it was pure Dumbledore :rotfl:!

Hermione Granger: GRAWP!
[Grawp looks in her face]
Hermione Granger: PUT! ME! DOWN!
[pause]
Hermione Granger: Now!
[Grawp complies]
Harry Potter: [while Hermione comes back in the midst of the trio] Seems you've got an admirer!

Nice !

Kingsley Shacklebolt: You may not like him, Minister, but you can't deny: Dumbledore's got style.

Just loved this line -- a true classic :p !

GOF

Ron: Hey, Hermione... you're a girl.
Hermione: Oh, well spotted.
Ron: [miming a dance] Come with one of us?
[Snape swiftly hits Ron on the head with a notebook]
Ron: Ow!

Nice one Ron, good old Captain Obvious !

Sirius Black: [in his letter] "Harry, I couldn't risk sending Hedwig. Since the World Cup the Ministry has been intercepting more and more owls, and she's too easily recognized. We need to talk, Harry, face to face. Meet me in the Gryffindor Common Room at one o'clock, this Saturday night. And make sure you're alone. Sirius. P.S...?
[the bird bites Harry's hand]
Harry: AH!
Sirius Black: "The bird bites."

[after the dragon has run into the teachers stand]
Fred: [yelling] Well done dragon!

Just loved that line... :rotfl:

[repeated line]
Dumbledore: At the sound of the cannon...
[cannon fires]

Now this line cracked me up :p !

Professor McGonagall: Professor Moody! Is that a student?
Professor Moody: Technically, it's a ferret

:rotfl:

Dumbledore: Harry, feel free to treat yourself to a licorice snap. But be careful, they're a wee bit sharp.

I loved this line -- it made me laugh and it fit Dumbledore's character :p.

Professor McGonagall: Now, Mr. Weasley, place your right hand on my waist.
Ron: Where?

:rotfl: This line made me laugh for about a minute or so, and the look on Ron's face was classic!

Professor McGonagall: The house of Godric Gryffindor has commanded the respect of the wizarding world for nearly ten centuries. I will not have you, in one night, besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of baboons!
Fred: [whispering to George] Try saying that five times fast.
George: [whispering] Babbling, bumbling band of baboons.
Fred: [whispering] Babbling, bumbling band of baboons.

Classic twins :p

Malfoy: [after Moody humilates him by turning him into a ferret and bouncing him up and down] My father will hear about this!
Professor Moody: Is that a threat?
[He steps forward, and Malfoy runs around the tree, Moody following]
Professor Moody: Is that a threat? Is that a threat?
[Malfoy flees]
Professor McGonagall: Professor Moody! Professor!
Professor Moody: [yelling after him ] I could tell you stories about your father that would curl even your greasy hair, boy!
Professor McGonagall: Alastor!
Professor Moody: It doesn't end here!
Professor McGonagall: Alastor, we never use transfiguration as a punishment. Surely Dumbledore told you that?
Professor Moody: He might have mentioned it.
Professor McGonagall: Well then. Do well to remember it!
[She stalks off, and Moody makes a face at her retreating back]

:rotfl: Loved this scene ;) -- Malfoy deserved it!

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

I'll stick to lines that come from the movies, because otherwise we have JKR to thank:

(Sorcerer's Stone)
Hermione: "It'll transform any metal into pure gold, and produces the Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal".
Ron: "Immortal?"
Hermione: "It means you never die".
Ron: "I know what it means!"

I]Sorcerer's Stone[/i])
Hermione: "If you don't it'll ony kill you faster".
Ron: "Kill us faster? Oh now I can relax!"

(Chamber of Secrets)
Malfoy: "Read?..I didn't know you could read".
(A popular one, and rightly so. Tom's delivery is perfect. :D)

(Prisoner of Azkaban)
Ron: "Spiders! Spiders, they..they want me to tapdance...I don't want to tapdance".
Harry: "You tell those spiders, Ron".
Ron: "Tell..I'll tell them...*snoring*".
(Same as above, really. Dan and Rupert never fail to crack me up here.)

(Chamber of Secrets)
Hermione: "Look at my face".
Ron: "Look at your tail".

(Goblet of Fire)
Neville: "Oh my god! I've killed Harry Potter!"

(Goblet of Fire)
Ron: "There she was walking by...you know how I like it when they walk."
(Dan gives a hilarious nod of recognition here, too.)

(Goblet of Fire)
Ron: "I couldn't help it; it just sort of slipped out".
Ginny: "Actually, he sort of screamed at her. It was a bit frightening".

(Goblet of Fire)
Cedric: "How-how are you?"
Harry: "Spectacular".

There may be more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. (Probably plenty, actually.)

Wow, I don't remember ever hearing that one! I'll definitely listen harder on my next viewing.

Professor McGonagall: Professor Moody! Is that a student?
Professor Moody: Technically, it's a ferret
 I forgot about that one! Brendan Gleeson and Maggie Smith really are just so good.

I think in CoS and GoF she actually got the right amount of material, but I agree with you. Bonnie is really good and I look forward to her expanded role. In terms of lines, I hope they leave in that little bit about the hippogriff tattoo. :D

Ron: "Can we panic now?" - CoS - Rupert's face is hilarious!

Draco: "I didn't know you could read." - CoS. - Great delivery from Tom!

Bellatrix: "How's mum and dad?"
Neville: "Better now they're about to be avenged!" - OotP

Filch: "My cat has been petrified. I wanna see some punishment!" - CoS

Dumbledore: "Alas! Earwax!" - SS/PS

Dumbledore: "Did what? Good night." - PoA

Umbridge: "You first tried for the Defense Against the Dark Arts post?"
Snape: "Yes."
Umbridge: "But you were unsuccessful?"
Snape: "Obviously." - OotP

Luna: "I suspect Nargles are behind it." -OotP

More later!

I thought about posting the "Obviously" line, but it's just that the line itself is only okay; it's Rickman's delivery that turns it into a comic highlight of the whole series. :D

Re: Funniest lines in the films?

I just remembered some funny lines from PoA:

-"Poor Professor Lupin's having a really tough night."-Harry

-"My, dear, from the moment you walked in, I knew that you didn't possess the Sight."
*reads palm and points*
"You see, there. Ah, you may be young in years, but your heart is as shrivelled as an old maid's. Your soul is as dry as the pages of the books to which you so desperately cleave."
*pats hand* Hermione storms out.
"Have I said something?"

 Emma Thompson is amazing.

"I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK!"

"Ron, do you ever stop eating?"

"You've got to admit, Dumbledore's got style."

I LOVE THIS LINE IN PRISONER OF AZKABAN:

"House cleaning!"
And then the door opens and something growls at her and the wind blows her and then she says:
"I'll come back later."

That always cracks me up.

Definitely :rotfl: That never fails to get a laugh out of me

Hermione: "It's a cat, Ronald! What do you expect? It's in his nature."
Ron: "A cat? Is that what they told you? It looks more like a pig with hair if you ask me."!

:rotfl: that was just brilliant. Rickman and Staunton just made that scene..

Also
Quote:

Hermione: "Grawp. Put. Me Down. (slight pause) Now."
Emma's delivery of that line was just perfect.
