As I read here, I'm not the only one who felt really disappointed with the house sorted...

I'm Hufflepuff, maybe Slypuff... And they sorted me to GRYFFINDOR!!!!!! This is not fair! I can't stay in Gryffindor, for real!

The books say that the Sorting Hat cares about our wishes... why Pottermore don't take this in count?

But, I LOVE my username (I'm DustSky),

Spoiler: show
One of the more interesting tidbits we've been given on Pottermore is the information on Neville's sorting. The reason the Sorting Hat took so long in sorting Neville was due to the fact that Neville was arguing with the Sorting Hat. Neville did not believe he belonged in Gryffindor and felt the Sorting Hat should put him in Hufflepuff instead. The Sorting Hat put Neville in Gryffindor anyway because that was where he belonged even though he didn't believe it at the time.

Choices are important, but in the books, the Sorting Hat was not going to put someone in a house they didn't belong in simply because they wanted it or felt it would be a better fit. The Sorting Hat would take a student's choices into consideration, but only insofar as what those choices revealed about their personality from what we're shown. After all, it would be rather pointless to even have a sorting ceremony if the hat was just going to let the students pick what they wanted based on what house their friends were in or what their favorite color was or even what they knew about the houses in general. The Sorting Hat was magically bound by the founders to sort students based on what they would pick themselves.

Obviously, there's no magical binding on the Pottermore quiz, but it is a fairly standard personality assessment. If you were honest with your answers to the questions, then it would appear that your personality would fit more with Gryffindor than Hufflepuff. Just like Neville's did. ;) And you can always register a new account and try again - October is almost upon us after all.

I finally got my letter last night and I love the extra information although I was a bit disappointed about the information on some of the students when it just said " so and so was a hogwarts first year". Not really necessary. Still awesome so far though.

I just got sorted into Hufflepuff:) and I have a fir and phoenix feather wand. I have to say I enjoyed reading about the wands and Ollivander the most so far.

I honestly can't remember if there was. I have only looked back through the chapters once since I first did it, as they are so slow and glitchy for me :(

I've just found it, it's in the Trophy Room. Thanks for looking anyway, though! :)

I assumed it would have come up when I bought my pet, but I didn't see anything there. It's possible that I missed it, though, because I was so excited to buy a pet, get a wand and get sorted...Does anyone know if this info come up later...or if I've accidentally missed something? Thanks. :)

It comes up in the Trophy Room, I think.

BTW, when you got sorted, did you read the Slytherin House History? When I learned what Slytherin was really about (as opposed to what fandom usually thinks it's about), I found it quite an honor to get sorted into Slytherin. And I think that's what JKR intended when she made a point of stating during the press conferences that Slytherin and Gryffindor are the closest Houses and that it's not a bad thing to get sorted into Slytherin. I've found it to be an awesome House on Pottermore - lots of team spirit (a very Slytherin thing, actually) and lots of fun.

That's right, I found it in the trophy room.

I did read the House History, and I felt slightly better after it. After thinking about it I also saw some of the Slytherin characteristics in myself...(I am careful about making decisions, I like to weigh my options before doing something instead of rushing into it, etc.) I still think I would have suited Ravenclaw better though...so I will probably open another account in October just to see if the Sorting Hat is consistent and puts me in Slytherin again...or not. If it does, I'll accept that as final, however. I don't want to keep trying until I get Ravenclaw, that doesn't seem right.

Thanks for your encouragement! :)

I saw a table somewhere about the efficiency of Potions...does anyone know where to get that from? Thanks :)

I can't believe I ended up there! Sorry, just had to let that out...:(... I am definitely going to open another account and give sorting another try come October...Really unpleasant surprise!

Given the choice, I would have chosen ANY other house BUT this one. Every other Sorting Hat quiz gave me another house...I refuse to believe it! :(

I, too, would have chosen any other house than Slytherin and I didn't think it fit me at all. Afterall, I'm always the one chosed as the "nicest"! However, I did get sorted into Slytherin and after a few days of moping and listening to the Alex Carpenter song, What If Pottermore Sorts Me In The Wrong House, I got over it. Now I just let my ambitious side come out by trying to keep moving up my point position in the house and school lists.

Its okay -- really. I hope you come to terms with it soon, too.

I don't really understand how to do spells, it works for me sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. The instructions on Pottermore are very vague. I would appreciate it if someone here could explain it again, more clearly. Thanks! :)

Is it possible to brew multiple potions at once if you have more than one cauldron?

The more expensive cauldrons heat up faster. They do not speed up your brewing time.

Re: Pottermore v.10

I seem to have gotten the hang of spells a bit more now...:)
However, the "Practice" button is only there for some spells...The Fire-Making Spell, the Knockback Jinx and the Curse of the Bogies. At first I thought I needed to get better at these spells in order to unlock the other ones...however, though it says that I've performed these spells impressively after I've done them, I still can't do the other spells. Does anyone know why this might be? Maybe I haven't progressed far enough in the story? (I only got my Welcome email today and haven't finished exploring yet). I hope it's not a glitch...Anyway, I'd really like to be able to practice the other spells as well before moving on to proper Duelling...

Furthermore, for the potions, do you have to come back at exactly the time they finish in order for them to be a success, or doesn't it matter?

Thanks for the info in advance. :)

I haven't been losing any when I fail a potion, and I've failed quite a few. I've only gotten to duel twice, as it has been down for a long time, and I don't remember.

The biggest thing that helped me was to use the letter keys on the keyboard, rather than the arrows. Hit the first letter, wait until the circle grows big and then hit it again. Then you have to be fast at hitting the next letter, but you can pause before you hit that same letter again, while the circle grows bigger. Once you hit the letter the second time, you have to be fast when you hit the third letter, then you can pause waiting for the circle to grow bigger before you hit that letter again. If any of this makes sense.....

It's good about the potions...but Duelling is still down? Oh no...

You can practice all you like, though - simply click on Spells at the top. But, for me, it's definitely down.

Do you have the Curses and Counter Curses book? It's in Chap. 12, moment 2, on the bench to left of the table. It has 7 spells.

I person will lose House points if their potions fail and their cauldrons blow up. I don't know if you can lose points dueling, since they haven't opened up the feature yet.

I take it back - SusanBones is correct. You do lose points if you blow up your cauldron.

Spoiler: show
If you're on the first part of potion brewing and your cauldron overheats, hitting the back button or refreshing the page will allow you to start over, and save your cauldron.
