if nobody's gotten onto dueling yet how are there people with thousands of points from wizard's duel when you look at that board in the great hall?

I think those are back from the time when Duelling was up...I think it was up, but then taken down again...

For the potions, do you have to come back at exactly the time they finish brewing in order for them to be a success, or doesn't it matter?

You don't have to be back at the exact time. They give you about an hour to get back and finishes after it initially finishes brewing.

If the potion says to return in 90 minutes, you have to return in 90 minutes, PLUS an additional 90 minutes after the potion is ready.

Dueling used to be working. Another theory why some have really high point totals is that the people testing the site spent lots of time testing it. Plus there were probably cheats, who had signed up with more than one account, and had their accounts duel each other to raise their points.

You have double the time to come back. If the brewing time is 100 minutes, you will get an additional 100 minutes after the first 100 are over in which to return. And if the brewing time is 80 minutes, you will get an additional 80 minutes in which to return, etc.

Oh no...My Cure for Boils was brewing for 80 minutes, and successfully stopped brewing, but then I thought it had already finished and clicked away instead of continuing with page 2 of the instructions. Now, when I go back to potions to complete the potion, it shows the first page of the instructions instead of the second...but it also says that my cauldron is still in use...So can I continue completing the first potion or not? What do you think should I do?

I have tried one potion a day for the past 2 weeks, and it still won't let me complete one! I get through phase 1 and when I return, there is nothing brewing! I'm not over the time limit. Sometimes I go to the Great Hall to check points and come back only to find the potion gone. This is annoying; I hope they fix it soon. It DOES open to everyone in around a week, after all...

Spoiler: show
You can lose points in Potionmaking if you melt your cauldron. If you don't do that, then you won't lose any points for failing a potion.

If you see black smoke coming from your cauldron, quickly refresh the page to avoid melting your cauldron. You'll have to start the potion over, but at least you won't lose any points.

Wow. Have you tried starting a potion and intentionally failing it - just waiving the wand? That seems to have helped some in some situations, but I don't know if it would help here.

You may want to report it:

I did that, but it takes me to the first page of the instructions, not the second, as if I'm working on a new potion from scratch. Maybe I should just wait for the waiting time limit to run out for it to "fail", so that I can use the cauldron again...

I have been able to recover from that by rebooting my computer.

Try starting over, and intentionally failing it by waiving the wand. That should get you out of the loop.

If that doesn't work, I'd report it:

If that doesn't work. Try blowing up your cauldron. Yes, you may have to pay to replace it (if it works), but it got me and some other people out of the potions loop.

So I'm assuming you got to the second stage of the potion and then exited out of the page before you completed all the steps?
If so, you're always sent back to the first page if you do that. You'll have to start over, I'm afraid. :(

Is it possible to find the break down of all the items that you can get and where to get them? I've seen it on here before but can't find it. I'm missing a book, an item, and a chocolate frog card(which I can see but can't collect :( )

Someone posted this link to a Pottermore Potions Study Guide, which lists ingredients and where they are located. It is a helpful guide.

It is probably better to just keep trying to collect your other missing items. I found that they just sometimes seem to appear in places that you've looked before. At least, that seemed to happen to me. Although I'm still missing two books. :argh:

So the time turning trick on Potions has been fixed. But have they allowed people to resume their potion the next day etc yet? This is why I'm reluctant to do potions because of time restraints.
