It is very frustrating at this point, especially because I'm not actually sure that they are TRYING to fix it.

have you tried going to the potions page and letting the potion run out of time. That seems to work for most people.

I had sent a message to Pottermore Support sort of along those same lines:

"Just wanted to let you know I love Pottermore! However I do have one suggestion: I think there should be an option when sorting that gives you an opportunity to tell of a house you would definitely not want to be in. I got sorted into Slytherin and I really have a very hard time seeing myself sorted as such."

This is their response back to me:

"Please note that the ways of the Sorting Hat are unpredictable. I suggest you read the new text about the Sorting Hat in chapter 7 to get some insight in those ways. Don't worry about it, people in every house have got special qualities that might not be directly identifiable with the house from the start. Time will tell!"

It does upset me to see people hating being sorted into Hufflepuff. It makes me want to do some very unHufflepuff things to them. We don't see any character get upset over the house they were sorted into. Do you think Harry would have been angry and pouted if he had been sorted into Slytherin?

I am sorry for people who are unhappy with their sorting, but I must say that their reply is a wonderful one! I'm not saying that the sorting is all mighty, but it surely is an opportunity to learn more about ourselves, if not taken too seriously.

Yep. Nothing works. :(

Answered on the Hufflepuff thread.

I have a Slytherin friend who said he saw 3 comments of people with Slytherin accounts who were intentionally blowing up cauldrons in order to lose points, because they didn't want Slytherin to win. It's depressing.

That's sad. :( They are still ahead though last I checked.

Even though I like Hufflepuff and think it's fitting of me, part of me still wishes I was in Slytherin(and based on my answers, apparently it was probably my runner-up house).

I had something interesting happen with my wideye potion today, I left my laptop sitting open with the potion brewing it was at 2% but I had to leave to do something so I left the page with the potion open but closed my laptop (I didn't turn it off though just closed it) when I got home probably an hour and a half later I opened my laptop and the potion was still at 2% I thought it would keep brewing but I guess this is useful for people who cant get back to their potion in the set space of time although im not sure if it was just a fluke with my computer or maybe this happens with everyone?

I have been brewing this one fairly well. After adding the Billywig Stings to the cauldron, I heat it up and toggle the temperature off and on, keeping the temp within the allowable temperature range, until it reaches 30 seconds. Then I turn the temperature off. Next, I mash the stuff in the mortar, add that to the cauldron and wave my wand and wait for step 2.

Hope this helps.

Now, if I could only keep from blowing up cauldrons when I try to brew Herbicide.

So you heat it for 30 seconds before you mash the stuff up in the mortar? I'm gonna attempt this potion next but I know the heating is tricky, so I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. :)

I melted a few cauldrons on Herbicide as well. I got several good tips on here, if you want to do a search, and below is the one that works for me.
Spoiler: show
When it comes to the second set of instructions, my problem was with adding the flobberworm mucus "while still on heat", whatever that means. Then somebody told me to heat the cauldron as instructed in the previous step, turn the heat off and wait for it to cool off until the temperature gauge disappears. Then turn the heat back on, add the flobberworm, turn the heat back off, and continue with the next step. I was a bit nervous about the long wait at first, but there is plenty of time.

That's correct!:)
Spoiler: show
You put the ingredients into the mortar first, then you add more ingredients to the cauldron and heat it before going back to the mortar to crush those ingredients and add them to the cauldron. Seems counter intuitive to me, but I guess that's why we get 9 points for it.

Thank you for the advice. I had problems with Herbicide too.
The first two times I got it right, but the third time it exploded - and I lost my precious copper cauldron. :( However, then I tried again to make it, because I just had to make it successively one more time - and I did.
But I haven't dared to do Herbicide again after that, I'm a bit scared of that potion. :p

I also think that the part of instructions that you mentioned was the reason why my cauldron exploded. Next time I dare to do Herbicide (this time definitely in pewter cauldron), I'll try to follow your advice. :)

YEP! Not a fluke, this happens to me too when I hibernate and leave my potion up.

I'm surprised people are having such problems with herbicide, I brew it all the time and have no problems:yuhup: The flobberworm bit, I just add it after the timer for heating finishes.

Yes, I used to do that too. But one time, I guess I wasn't fast enough. I thought everything went fine, so I was really surprised when my cauldron exploded. I was even a bit scared by the animation, as it was my first time, and I didn't expect that.

I think it has to do with whether you manage to add the flobberworm while the cauldron is still in the target temperature range. I am probably too slow, or my cauldron is heating/cooling too quickly, or whatever, to make it work your way.

Yes. In Step 1 - You first measure snake fangs and universal ingredient into the mortar. Then you dump the billywig stings into the cauldron and heat it, toggling back and forth for 30 secs. (I then turn off burner.) Then you mash up the stuff that was in the mortar and measure out the right amount into the cauldron, stir and wave wand. Then you wait for step 2.

Did anyone get house points for completing the first year? I either brewed a potion correctly and lost count of points, or I'm still in the glitch.

One does not earn house points simply for completing the first year, as far as I know.

Yes, actually. :p Malfoy was in there. And Ron had just told him all the ones who went bad were in Slytherin. I'm sure he would have pouted! :err:

I was Sorted into Ravenclaw on Pottermore, but I wouldn't have been unhappy Sorted into Hufflepuff. In fact, that was probably the second choice!

It also makes me sad that people are trying to make Slytherin lose. :(

Thanks for the tip! It's brewing! It looks like step 2 is pretty straightforward.
