Yeah, certainly: paucity of technical people. By the way, I don't think the technical people are Sony folks; aren't they from TH_NK? They might have some other projects, but I suspect that the people who are working on it are working on it at least half time. In my experience, asking developers to work (say) eight hours a week on a project is a good way for that project to make essentially no headway. Where I work, we only do that if there really is no other choice.

Good question. I think, though, that most of the really avid fans are in. Yes, some people are out in the cold, but I don't get the feeling that most people are that itchy. We have quite a few friends who read/watch Harry Potter, but although some of them know about it, I and my son are the only ones who are on Pottermore and follow it at all.

Exactly, If someone really really wanted to get in, they would of did the magic quill challenge. There may be a few huge potter fans that somehow missed out, but to the general public, it doesn't affect them very much.

That's an interesting idea. I know I'd really like it if there was a "pause" button that would stop the countdown in case you realize you start a potion and then realize you don't have time to finish it. That way, you can still wait the necessary time for it to brew, but you won't fail due to not being able to return to it.

In my opinion, the clock should stop any time you aren't logged in on any device. It's one thing to be penalized when you're duelling (hypothetically speaking, of course!) and forget about your potion, but if you're kicked off because of heavy load, the clock should not continue to run.

As for an all-day potion, I'd want it to be worth about fifty points (more, if duelling returns) before I'd bother.

Whats up guys, I got back from vacation and finally got to get into pottermore today. So excited about that. My name is SnitchNight102. I got sorted into Slytherin on there as well as here. Add me as a friend, and lets duel it up. I haven't been able to do that yet for some reason.

Also does anyone know how many hidden objects there are to find? I have collected enough for 43 house points, but I successfully brewed the boil cure potion and got some points for that. I am curious. Also does anyone know if we can read about or read the books that we collect? That would be awesome.

Any tips/hints would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on getting into Pottermore. If you want to chat about it please go to the Pitchside: Halftime chat :)

Spoiler: show

22 objects / 15 books / 11 chocolate frogs and quite number of potion ingredients of which you can collect some all over again when you have used them for potions.

You can't read the books.

Yes, also I think there should be a very short potion, so if you know you have less than an hour to do a potion, you can still do one.

Being honest, they never said exactly when the public would get in. They said October, that's it. Many people took that to mean the 1st of October, and hence were disappointed, but I always took it to mean mid - end October. They obviously left the date vague so they could either make it sooner or later if they wanted. So, really, the general public were potentially never supposed to be in by now.

My perception is that the frontline of people who are getting those messages are like caretakers, and in order to get "permission" to fix something they have to go back to the real bosses, who are technical people with Sony. And I imagine they have lots of other projects going on, so they get around to working on Pottermore about once a week (if then).

And in order to really "change" something from the original design, they probably need permission from JKR or her team, and that isn't going to be instant either. If she okay'd that potions should happen a certain way, who is going to then go back and persuade her that the the brewing times should be shortened, cauldrons less combustible, or ingredients less prone to spillage? Especially if the Pottermore "consultants" came up with those ideas in the first place?

Frankly, even though this is a Beta maybe in terms of learning how many people are going to sign up and what server size they need, they didn't seem to leave much wiggle room in how things are actually done.

I may be even more cynical, but I think the main focus of the site is supposed to be to get us to join up, stick around a couple of weeks max, and buy e-books and other goodies.

The e-books don't seem to be on schedule (my guess is JKR is still attempting to get Amazon to agree to allow her books both in MOBI and PDF and not completely share the rights to them, and she hasn't been successful yet). And until the site starts earning money, I don't think the focus is on getting us to hang around and log in everyday.

I don't foresee any real changes in potions, or perhaps even the return of dueling, until the arrival of the e-books.

The clock stopped for me once! I set the laptop to sleep and when I came back the % number hadn't moved! Can't remeber if the potion worked though! haha

Well I have apparently been brewing Herbicide for almost two months... So no potions is not fixed for everyone. If I click on the brewing potion I get the 'you have taken too long' message. But when I click try again it goes back to the cauldron page and the potion is still brewing.

Its so frustrating - I've spoken to pottermore staff about it but they were no help at all

I used to be able to hibernate my computer to stop the clock but this doesn't work anymore i've done it twice when I've been unable to finish on time. When I get back and take the computer out of hibernation the clock continues normally and i'm able to finish the potion and get the message saying I will receive the points but right after that it always kicks me off the site and upon logging in again I always get the message that I left the potion too long. I guess they switched this it used to work but hibernating your computer doesn't seem to pause the potion anymore.

A really long potion or a short potion are good ideas, or a pause button, I find the lengths of the current ones can be pretty annoying to try and do other things, and still get back in time to finish! :(

Pottermore Insider has a new update about the process they used to design house crests.

http://insider.pottermore.com/

Interesting reading.
Spoiler: show
Each crest design took into account the best pose for the animal and what they wanted it to represent, plus the element of each House (Ravenclaw = Air, Gryffindor = Fire, Hufflepuff = Earth, Slytherin = Water) as well as House colors.

I've been brewing Sleeping Draught lately, and it doesn't seem as glitchy as it used to be. Or maybe that's just because i've got better at it. XD

Same, I used to do this but haven't done it for awhile. I'll do it again tonight though and see if it works.
What I find annoying is that they all take around the same length of time, give or take 5 - 10 minutes. There needs to be more variety. I wish they'd introduce more potions, but most of all I wish you got a point for failing the 2nd stage.

They have also added the link for you to fill out their feedback survey.

I just filled out my survey. With the exception of the very last part where you could actually type in your own feedback, I felt like the rest of it was pretty useless. It was all "agree or disagree" to certain statements, but I don't feel like the statements really served any purpose on how the site actually worked for us. Oh well, I guess it's helpful for them.

:wave:News Alert: Pottermore Survey is now out on insider,

I did fill out my complete survey and having done so made several recommendations to the pottermore team on how they did in putting up this site to the world. As always, I would be curious to see here from other fellow beta testers their comments and testify on how they would improve the site for all of us. With great interest, post away:relax:

I thought it had some wonderful questions, and perhaps there will be some significant changes to the site when it opens for everyone.

I made two suggestions.

Spoiler: show
During Sorting, I think people should be able to choose one house they don't want to be sorted into.

Potions should last varying amounts of time - maybe one lasts 20 minutes, one 2 hours, one 24 hours, and they should have different point values.

I completely agree. :agree:

Spoiler: show
I suggested that there should be music and voice clips of some characters in certain significant moments (such as the Wand Choosing and The Sorting) to make the experience more exciting and immersive. I also said there should be a way for users to see which comments they had made easily, without scrolling through pages to find it.

Just filled out the survey. I'm glad it was quite detailed. Hopefully they will change the site for the better :)
