A couple of us have noticed that, if we go back to the potion right when the timer makes it to the 100%, it will show the first page of the potion book and make us start over, and we have to fail the potion to get out of it. Is it possible that what's happening in your case.
Yes, that is what has happened to me a few times now. Since it has happened both times when it is too late in the evening to try and start the potion over again, I've been failing it on purpose in order to get out of it.

It seems to me like the length of time they are spending in the beta period and the inability to fix people's problems means that they have too small of a staff working on this website. The Deathly Hallow part 2 dvd has the video of JKR saying that the Pottermore site is open now, so I would think there would be some pressure on them to get this up and running.

I have been stuck in a potions glitch for 2 months now. I received an email back a couple of weeks ago saying they had received my message but nothing has changed. I can't even 'fail' the potion (Herbicide) on purpose because my potion looped in the second half, not the first and is now stuck on the 'you have taken too long' screen. Clicking try again doesn't do anything as it says the potion is 'still brewing'

I heard rumours that CoS would be released in December or early 2012 as well, if this is true they do need to open to the public soon otherwise the public will be very far behind the Beta users. I have a strange feeling that if things don't turn around soon Pottermore may just be forgotten about by Sony and moved on from. They haven't even sorted the full 1 million users yet...

I think the main issue with that Pottermore beta testing is the huge lack of information. I totally understand that it's beta, it has glitches, loops, etc.
I also totally understand that they don't really want to give dates anymore.

But, come on. There are so many things that seem weird. Like House points: will they be deleted once Pottermore opens to all? Will we have a first House Cup before it opens to all?

Kathleen, I was stuck in a potion loop too, and I got out of it (I tried everything I've read lol) and then I started to brew like crazy... for a few days. Gryffindor was number 3 and I really wanted my House to be second or first. But I was always checking with the Great Hall and... our points were not increasing that much. So, I took some time to constantly look at our Common Room (to see how many persons earned points, lost points, etc) and the Great Hall.

Well... Potion points didn't seem to count  Only the points for collecting objects seemed to. You had, in 2 or 3 minutes, 6/7 persons earning each between 3 and 11 points (mostly 9 or 11 though), and our points weren't increasing. So I stopped brewing. Because:

1. I don't know if my points count (they really don't seem to)
2. I'm buying ingredients, therefore using galleons.
3. I don't know if they will "close" the HC Competition or not. Why waste my time if I'm not even sure?
4. I don't know if they're going to give beta testers some galleons, for all those ones almost everyone lost in Potion Loops (buying cauldrons and ingredients.)

The point is: OK with glitches and loops, although it's been 3 month now and I totally understand you being so upset and mad about it. Ok with no dates because they don't want to do the same mistake again.
But frankly, a little more information would be good. I haven't logged in in weeks, because it frustrates me to see my House Points and know there's nothing I could do about it.

I think more and more people are losing interest and that's so sad :(.

How come most other people are able to get out of the loop but not me? :(

I've tried what Susan Bones did, I've blown up my cauldron, I've let the timer run out, I've reloaded the page, I've logged out and then logged back in.

Cure for Boils has always been worth three points.

I got 5 points for Cure for Boils back before I got stuck in the loop so there was a time long ago when it was 5 points. And maybe that is why I can't get out of the loop doing the same thing you did because maybe when I do that it attempts to give me 5 points but that won't work since it's now suppose to be 3 points and therefore I am stuck forever in the loop. :(

Yeah, I think that very early on all potions were 5 points, an exploded cauldron -5, and you got 1 point for a failed attempt. I wasn't brewing back then, but people started noticing the change around September 12th.

As for how to fix the loop, have you tried failing out of the potion from a different browser? And is your Flash player up to date? I don't know if either of those things might help, but other than contacting the Pottermore team again, I don't have any other suggestions. :(

I’m not in the Beta. When will Pottermore be available to me?

We expect to open registration to everyone from the end of October. Registering means that you'll be able to create a Pottermore account and select a username. You won’t have immediate access to the site as we’ll be enabling people in phases.

Once you’ve registered, we’ll send you a Welcome email to let you know when your Pottermore account has been activated. This may arrive quickly but please note it could also take a number of weeks or months, depending on demand.

I've already submitted my email address to Pottermore. Does this mean I'm registered?

Not yet, but we'll be using the email address you submitted to let you know when Pottermore registration has begun.
Okay, as one still outside in the cold, who was expecting to be let in after Halloween, this is frustrating. :upset: And they haven't even updated in the last two weeks to provide a more likely future date.

If I'm reading this right, even when they do open the doors, it will mean only that eventually, they'll send an email to the address I submitted ages ago (but was away taking a class when the contest was being conducted and thus couldn't try), letting me know that I can finally then register an account and pick a name and then wait again.

Then after I wait "weeks or months" again for another "Welcome email" letting me know when the people they are adding for actual use "in phases" eventually include me, and my account is actually able to be used.

But in the meantime, I should continue to be patient and rest assured that they are spending the time I'm standing outside in the cold for polishing the furniture to an even higher gloss, and crocheting more and more lovely doileys, and making sure the flues in the fireplaces work better and better and that the Floo powder alongside is the best in the land, and adding on more canopies and broom closets and adjusting the weather spells on the ceiling to be even more accurate, so that someday it will be nice enough for them to decide to let the rest of us in, and in the meantime it's getting better and better for those of you already in, though some of you understandably aren't crazy about how house point totals or Potions work, while we outside wait some more.

I'm not normally a big complainer, I'm usually pretty go-along-to-get-along, but this is getting to feel sad and unpleasant and there must be more of me out here whose feelings about the franchise aren't quite as all-wonderful as they were in the past. I agree with the person who said they should have made it a little less detailed to start with and let more people in, and added in more bells and whistles later.

Count your blessings, you who are already in, and enjoy! There are a lot of people who'd like to trade places with you. :argh: Sigh.

All I can suggest is to use the workaround URL and you might be able to brew potions but only at 3 points for Cure for Boils.

Is there a place where we can collect all the various suggestions for getting out of the different potions loops? I know of a few, but it would be good to be able to point users to a definitive list of all the things that have been tried and worked for at least one person.

Great idea! I wonder if someone could house a list somewhere (Tumblr page)? I'd be happy to contribute but could not host.

Perhaps we could include it here? The All-Inclusive Pottermore List. It was mainly used as a collection of news information when we didn't know what Pottermore was, but maybe it could be used now as a troubleshooting page. It could also be used to hold lists like the one MerryLore has of all the 'findable goodies' in Pottermore.

I think it's a good idea. We could have a section of troubleshooting steps, and I believe I currently have an all inclusive list of those "findable goodies." I don't think this would violate anything on Pottermore, since I can leave out the locations. We could also include the point value for potions.

I'm sorry :( I remember how it was, when I was waiting and almost all of my fellow Pitchsiders were already in.
We're getting frustrated for the same reasons as you, you know. Lack of news/info.
But we know we're lucky to be in, it's just very frustrating for us as well, dueling is still out, it has been out since early September at least. People have been having glitches or loops on Potions for almost 3 months now.

:huggles: I really hope they'll start those registrations soon. I fat least they could post something saying: "Sorry, we know we're late, we don't know when Registration will open yet, but keep on checking."

Leaving that old post with the October time is just... :td: for all of you who are still waiting.

You really shouldn't feel sorry at all about complaining; it's been ages, you (well, each and every Harry Potter fan, actually) deserve to get confirmations, or at least some news - and not a useless update about fanart. I would do the very same thing. What the Pottermore team is doing is unforgivable.

The whole Pottermore thing has been handled badly from the start, and nothing has really changed for the better since then: those who are in still find themselves in glitches and loops and - let's be honest - other than Potions there really isn't much to do, especially for those of us who don't care or don't have time for the House Cup; and, most importantly, there are still loads of fans who are tirelessly waiting to gain entrance to the site.

If they keep working on the site at this rate and with this level of accuracy/interest, Pottermore won't be ready by the end of 2012. I hate to be pessimist, but I think potter_gleek is right: Sony won't be bothering with this for long (and probably our surveys didn't really help in this direction), and we'll probably never get to experience Deathly Hallows on Pottermore.

Anyway, my piece of advice is: if you haven't already, read the new content by JKR (can't do this here, but it's easy to find online), and try pestering the Pottermore team with constructive e-mails and/or on Twitter. And keep in mind you're not missing out on much, right now - as far as I'm concerned, of course.

Are they finally closing it down to make changes? I must admit, I am very dissapointed with how Pottermore turned out :upset:

Not closing the site down, just ending the foreign language survey.

I understand your disappointment in Pottermore, me too.

Unfortunately, no.

This webpage usually has the most current information:

http://insider.pottermore.com/

They did add some more user submitted artwork today, inspired from Chapter Two.

Another good website is this one, where they answer general questions and let us know when they'll be doing "platform updates":
