Re: Pottermore v.10

Hello! I am a long time lurker and first time poster. :) The main change I noticed is that brewing times have changed significantly and that a copper cauldron definitely brews faster than the others. In a copper cauldron you can brew a sleeping draught in just under an hour! Though the brewing times have changed for all cauldrons, the copper one is definetly the fastest!

Also, individual rankings are gone. I used to be able to see what position I was in, but they have taken that away. They have also made some changes with the notifications - they are a bit more streamlined.

Many who were locked out of chapters before have reported that they can finally move around again.

So it appears that they have made some great changes, but unfortunately Wizards Duel is still down . :(

Has the Wizards Duel page changed then? I haven't been on Dueling in so long I can't remember what it used to say. I really hope you're right about CoS coming soon, hopefully with music and some better games. I'm hoping for Quidditch and Quizzes about either the books or about the Wizarding world in general as if we were in lessons.

I'm really happy that they've changed potions so that the waiting times are less and the cauldrons actually make a difference now. Also the notifications system is much easier to use than before, I just wish they'd speed up moderations of comment and all more social interaction.

still no dueling and it was supposed to be open to the public already.

Re: Pottermore v.10

My Sleeping Draught was caught in the loading loop, and now I'm able to brew it. The brewing time on that one changed from 100 minutes to seventy, and they moved the Valerian Sprigs. Now they are in the way of the wand. They also took down the instruction page. I guess they finally figured out that once you brew a bunch of potions, you don't need that page anymore. ;) I just hope the potion loop problems are over.

My comment in the Common Room posted fairly promptly, too, which was nice. Most of the time I never knew if it ever got posted.

I can't believe wizard dueling is still down. Surely it can't be that hard to fix right?

That being said the changes they have made are pretty nice and Pottermore runs brilliantly. I absolutely love the potion changes and seems like they have fixed most of the problems with it. Although I did get a you put the lavender in the wrong contain comment despite the factor I did it correctly. Overall well done though. I would expect this to open to the public very soon.

I'm so upset the duelling is still down.I've never used it before, it's never worked for me and I got in when the second round of emails were sent out. I feel like I'm missing out on so much of the Pottermore experience.

I haven't logged into Pottermore for over a month, but it's nice to hear they lowered the potion brewing times. Makes me want to go back and check it out.

Out of curiosity, have they given a date for when the site will go public or is it still up in the air?

Nope, not a word.

An almost forgotten discussion, regarding extra expository material...

I'm curious. How would you apply this to Pottermore? I have mixed feelings. I think it paid off in the end for JKR to not have really explained everything. People are still talking and joining forums like these, trying to figure out various plot points. And now Pottermore may explain things better. At the same time, do we really want more detail? Wouldn't we really prefer to keep the stories as they are in our own minds, without the author's own interpretation of her works interfering?

It's like JKR's interviews. I don't agree with everything she says. Sometimes she contradicts herself. It can be interesting reading things such as McGonagall's backstory, however, and we did learn some interesting information about Ollivander, as well as how she came up with some of her ideas for the book. But there's a discussion here on CoS which house Umbridge was sorted into - do we really need to know for sure? Do we really need to know why Snape's patronus was a doe? Or is the fun in the speculation? Is she robbing us in the end?

My personal feeling about this is that it's OK to have it in Pottermore, or in interviews, or in an encyclopedia. One has to read the novels in order to appreciate the full story, but that's not true of Pottermore, or the interviews, or the encyclopedia--one can avoid those easily. It's not as though those things can sneak up on us unsuspected. So for those things to contain "extra" information doesn't bother me.

And I don't think that all the extra information would hamper discussion even if it were completely consistent and we all knew it. Far from it--I think the discussion would grow ever broader and deeper. Scientific discussion hasn't slowed down at all because we understand more than we did a century ago; it's become even more robust, because there's so much more to build upon.

And I think the same would be true of HP discussion. Whatever Rowling told us, it would never be enough to satiate the hard-core fans. Look at the threads on this board; some of them are fantastically imaginative and peripheral, and I don't mean that in any demeaning way; I mean they are really pushing the edges of the HP world. If we found out (for the sake of argument) that Umbridge was sorted into Hufflepuff, can you imagine the flurry of discussion and speculation that would ignite? As long as what Rowling tells us is relayed in an imaginative and interesting way (and she's demonstrated that she's well capable of that), I find it all welcome, and I'll read it.

I think so, because I remember it saying that the duelling is down at the moment, while now it says:

Spoiler: show
Wizard's Duel

This area of the site is currently undergoing maintenance and is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

So I'm thinking they're actually doing something by working on it and soon it will be up again :p

~.~

Quidditch would be awesome, and quizzes ever more! Like we are in classes! Sooo cool! :o That's a great idea, you should feedback it.

The potion waiting tie change is brilliant, I agree.

The moderation wouldn't bother me as much, if as some of you suggest, more social interaction was available. Even between friends only.

So it won't take very long to brew a potion anymore?

Also you guys......*cries tears of joy*....my potion finally isn't frozen anymore!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT:

Earned some points again, FINALLY.

Anyway, you know how it used to say what your position was in points for your house? Like I used to be in 40,000th something place in Hufflepuff....it doesn't show where I am in the standings anymore. Did Pottermore remove that or what?

 I hope the potions loop is gone forever. :agree:

Pottermore removed the House rank scores for everyone. :(
It also changed the notification system. The notifications don't accumulate anymore. And they don't send them when you have successfully brewed a potion, or failed a potion, or given someone a gift. There are probably a few other things excluded now, too.

I'm so happy for you :huggles:

Looks like Pottermore is getting the ducks lined up in a row. Maybe they'll open it for everyone by Christmas.

I hope it's gone forever too. I'm pretty paranoid about getting stuck in it again after my over 3 month long ordeal with it.

That sucks though that they removed the House rank scores for everyone. Why would they do that? You'd think that'd be something most people would like to know. Now that I can finally earn points again I can't even know where I am within the Hufflepuff ranks unless I get into the top 20? Which probably won't happen after being out of the game of earning points for over 3 months due to the potion loop.

That's good. I hate having to delete all my (pointless) notifications.

I may have to sign in and do a potion or two before Christmas.

Re: Pottermore v.10

So there is a limit on how many duels you can do? It says I have exceeded my duel limit for the time being.

Can the servers not keep up with the amount of people dueling, is that why there is a limit? If so it's not really good news, especially when they open it to the public.

This was my first experience doing a bunch of duels just now....since duelling has been down since even before I got my account activated in late August.

One of the people I beat....I beat that person with my spell potency being only 1 point higher than theirs. It was a Slytherin. XD I sent a friend request to that person right after that really close match. I love Slytherins and wanted to challenge some of them....they are the house with the most points after all.

I'm hearing the limit is 10.

How does the scoring work? If you beat someone by 5 points, are only 5 points added to your point total?
