OK, I've gone back to collect the stuff I haven't collected before-

Spoiler: show
I'm after the measurements- when I hover over the lamppost to click it, nothing happens. I tried using it in low quality and it flashes between the pink lamppost and the "read more" box...over and over again until I click on another tab on my browser...

So...help? It's probably my computer- it usually is...but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Haven't had that problem, but have you tried a different browser? I had an easier time exploring the site with Chrome than Explorer.

Ah- I don't have any other browsers- we've got an ancient computer and anything else will fill up the stupid tiny hard drive we have

It's stopped flashing, but I still can't click on the "read more" box :(

I'm stuck at the Gateway since last night. Has anyone else had this problem? No matter what I click to get "in" to Pottermore, I just keep getting the Gateway.

ETA: If I click on one of the chapters on the map in the Gateway, I get the picture for the first "moment" in the chapter for a few seconds, but then it goes back to the Gateway.

I'm good to go over there ... just threw a duel at Hufflepuff. I use a bookmark to the great hall as my entry point. Do these help you to get in somewhere else?

Thanks for the links, but no... they don't help. They just get me to the Gateway. I'm going to see if this problem is present on another computer.

ETA: No trouble on the other computer, so it's probably just an issue with the specific browser. I'll try clearing my cache.

I had this problem before. Clearing out cache for the browser and the Flash cache, and then rebooting should fix it.

I think the way they score the potency of spells is really off. Sometimes I'll completely ace a spell, and only get around 138, and other times I miss letters (even by quite a bit), and get a 140. Does anyone else experience this?

Hey thanks. I cleaned the browser cache and had already done a reboot during some system updates. I entered Pottermore to clean the Flash cache, but I was able to get past the Gateway just with what I'd already done.

So it looks like it's working now on this browser as well.

I think it matters more that you catch the circle when it has expanded fully than that you catch the letter right in the center.

Yes! And I thought it was just me :relax: Sometimes I do a rubbish spell and still get 141. And others I do a perfect spell and it's only 139 ... :grumble:

Doesn't help my spirits that i'm a rubbish dueller anyway. I have only won two duels since Tuesday:grumble:

Re: Pottermore v.10

I find that I get more points if I click when the ring is at full and not perfectly centered around the letters (140-141) than if I click when the ring is perfectly centered but the ring is slightly on the decline (139-). I get the most points if I click when the ring is both at full and perfectly centered (142-144).

So actually, no I don't think the points are off. I think the points are geared more towards the size of the ring than its absolute accuracy... in my experience, at least.

And don't feel bad, owlycherries. I was drawing and losing yesterday when I cast spells for 142 points. :wow:

Lots. This is one of the great mysteries of the site.

I made a very plain, boring comment on the first day I was in - August 15th - and it appeared in November. I have a friend who has so many comments which appear, she practically lives on Pottermore. Every time I log in, I see at least two of her comments. Her theory is to use simple, one and two syllable words that the word filter they have in place recognizes them and it doesn't have to wait for a moderator to approve it. If it doesn't recognize all the words, your comment seems to go into a queue for mod approval, and when it gets approved is based on how busy they are and when they get to your comment. If it's approved automatically, i don't think you get any notification.

Thanks for the reply, especially since I posted my question in the wrong thread :).

Well, I'm glad to hear it's not just me. I've been baffled. I'll try sticking to simple words on Pottermore and hope that helps.

It's definitely not just you! And baffling doesn't begin to describe Pottermore's approach to moderation!

Here's an earlier post listing my comments from Pottermore that have actually been banned by a human after going through moderation (Pottermore sends notifications when a moderated comment has been approved or banned):

http://www.cosforums.com/showthread....63#post5921663

After seeing my comment on Hagrid's umbrella get banned, I just decided there's no point in commenting on anything in Pottermore. I don't want to run afoul of the site, and if that comment goes against site standards, then there's clearly no way to predict whether any other comment will go against site standards.

ETA:
I'm showing a different number of points on my profile beneath my name than on the bar at the top of the page next to my House crest. It's only 5 points off... but has anybody else had this happen? Any ideas about causes?

Re: Pottermore v.10

I logged into Pottermore almost 8 hours ago, and the Great Hall house points have not changed at all, although my individual house points have.

This could be:

1) a huge glitch
2) a plan to perhaps get us to slow down on dueling
3) Pottermore Beta is about to end.

I'm guessing the first, but hoping for the third.

I'm pretty sure it's a glitch. There have been various glitches in the system since yesterday afternoon. At one point, Pottermore told me that I was using the wrong password. The comments are off in the Slytherin Common Room (probably also in the other Common Rooms) - and have been for over 17 hours now. Some pages disappear randomly. There's an 11-minute time lag in the Slytherin Common Room between the time a Slytherin gets points and the time it's reported in the Common Room. In the Great Hall, you can see the most recent events, but if you click the arrow, it takes you to events that took place about 11 hours ago, with nothing in between. In addition, there's a discrepancy in my points between the number of points being reported next to my House Points and the number of points being reported on my Profile.

I don't think all of these glitches are a sign that the Beta is about to close. I think they're a sign that Pottermore needs to fix some things.

Obviously I'm fated to be a non-participant in Pottermore! I was getting pretty good on the practice spell before this last shutdown, now when I practice I can't get past zero! :upset: That's with typing or mouse!!!!! :grumble:

Wow! Could it possibly be your computer? Have you tried a different one?

I just had the weirdest glitch happen to me. I was brewing an Awakening potion and had it running in the background while it brewed, when I maximized the window again it had an error.

I have no idea what happened. I don't even know why it would think I was trying to speed up my system or have any idea how to do that. Now I've lost my Copper Cauldron and lost five house points. Is there a way I can email them because I don't know what to do at the moment?
