Update: they seem to have fixed all the glitches maybe it was a friday the 13th joke or something lol

I wouldn't reccomend duelling right now the site seems to have gone super glitchy today! I did one duel and got no points, and now it won't let me duel at all saying the page doesn't exist when I try to challenge someone. Some have been able to duel but the site isn't giving them any points at all, I guess there working on somethig because others said alot of other pages such as friends pages weren't showing up either.

The site was acting odd last night too I couldn't sleep so I ended up doing some duels and there was not limit on duels like there normally is. I got over three hundred points without the site saying I had exceeded the duel limit. It's odd it would suddenly get extremely glitchy unless their working on something but usually they close the site for that.

I've been able to duel this morning without it timing out, too. It gave me points, though. It seems like there isn't any reason why they can't open the site for everyone. Things seem pretty normal now.

I wonder if they would start everyone from the beginning. I would hate to lose all the points I've earned, but on the other hand, a fresh start would give Gryffindor and Hufflepuff a chance to win the House Cup.

If they start everyone's points from zero, they could have a ceremony awarding the House Cup to the winner before opening the site to everyone.

Besides giving Hufflepuff and Gryffindor a chance to catch up, they would almost have to start from scratch so as to not discourage the newbies (once they open it to all) from trying. I know that if I saw that the leaders were 50,000 points ahead of me or more, I'd be pretty discouraged...

As soon as an announcement is made on insider.pottermore.com, everyone will know. I know that we all are anxious for it to open, but when it does, everyone will know...

Pottermore currently seems to be varying the dueling times. During the day i seem to be allowed about 20 duels before it says i can't duel anymore, and then I have to wait about 20 minutes. Right now, I can duel 50 times, and then only have to wait 5 minutes before I'm let back in.

Anyone else noticing this?

I can keep duelling and haven't been stoped by a limit yet today when iv'e been on, and iv'e done a considerable number of duels. I think they are using this to test how well the site handles the extra traffic to make sure it's ready for the new people, this could mean they're thinking of opening it to all pretty soon but you never know with them.

I've been duelling for the better part of an hour, only taking small breaks like 1 or 2 minutes. haven't been stopped, just the captha (sp)

Whew, try 117,000 - the current highest point accumulator (from Gryffindor). While certain players will always try to gross the most number of points, I do agree that starting everyone out at 0 when the beta is finished is the best way to retain the non-beta players. While the beta players may be outraged at their "lost points," I think they must realize that they are currently playing in a beta version - a test, more or less. So they have willingly put forth X amount of effort knowing that the future of their points/beta account is unknown.

Personally, I am not really into the house points aspect of the website. I think the way house points are distributed, first of all, is flawed. Whereas in the books students are punished for performing magic in the corridors, on Pottermore we are awarded with house points! The inaccuracy of it just grinds my purist outlook. And I really think that house points are really just arbitrary when you think of how many members Pottermore will include and how many of those will actually achieve ~100,000 house points apiece.

I also think the focus of Pottermore is - and should be - reading and learning, and just pressing keys/clicking the mouse is not stimulating in any way - especially when it is the same pattern (generally Petrificus Totalus! every time). While I am glad that dueling has been fixed, I was hoping it was going to be revolutionized and equalized a bit more - but it seems just as abusable as it was before.

I think if they reset the points that will annoy a lot of people, honestly.

And although I'm in Hufflepuff, the house badly losing....I have over 11,400 points currently and I'd be pretty upset if they were all deleted. I just think it would feel unfair to have them taken away. I mean I wasn't able to earn any points for 3 months back when my potion was frozen for ages and duelling was down. I had no way to earn anything....I was stuck at 42 points forever. At least now if people look at my account they won't think I'm someone who got sorted into Hufflepuff and abandoned my account as a result. There are a lot of bad stereotypes associated with Hufflepuff....I don't believe them, nor do I think everyone who has 0 house points is an abandoned account(not everyone wants to take part in stuff beyond the reading/new info part of the site) but we all know that there are a lot of people who think bad things about Hufflepuff house and by getting the amount of points that I have, at least I know they probably won't think that about me if they look at my account.

Also I don't think that new people will be discouraged by the amount of points other people already have....I say this because I come across a decent amount of people who have 0 duelling points trying out in duelling every day pretty much.

Not to mention that although we are Beta testers, we should still get to keep the stuff we earn on Pottermore because for a lot of us it was pretty annoying to be up at 4:00 in the morning doing that magical quill challenge and so we should get to keep stuff we earn on the site. The glitches were expected and all of that of course, but I hope we get to keep our points.

I too would be very disappointed if they took away my hard-earned 300 points (currently, pending about 10 more duels, lol), but imagine what the newbies would think having to start at zero when the leaders were 100,000 points ahead of them...

That's 20,000 duels, 14,286 potions, or any of so many combinations of the duels and potions... There's no way I'll catch up to the points leaders, and I'm a beta tester... If I earned 100 points tomorrow, the leaders would earn 200... I'd be even farther behind tomorrow than I am today...

I agree.

I hate to lose all the points I've built up as well, but I think it's only fair we all start with a clean slate when we leave Beta and when we start a new book. Each school term at Hogwarts started with zero house points, which had to be earned.

Here's what confuses me. We earn about 30 or so points from finding things - Chocolate Frogs, books, etc, when we first join. Most of us Beta testers have found everything and gotten those points. Will we get to re-find it all, or will they consider our current ability to duel/brew potions to make up for it, because new users will have to learn that?

Resetting the points wouldn't necessarily mean deletion. There should be a record of the Beta House Cup Winner and everyone's points from the Beta session. It is only fair that everyone starts out at zero when the site opens publicly.

I hope they let us refind the stuff to get points that way. Not a lot of points, no, but it would put Beta testers at a disadvantage from the get-go.

I like this idea... some place in the profiles people can visit that says how many points were earned during the beta test... And maybe even start a trophy wall, within the profile where our other collectibles are kept... For special things we earn...

I just don't know, I think there are pros and cons to either keeping or removing the points and I'm not really sure which way outweighs the other.

I don't necessarily think either that they need to restart things to give Hufflepuff and Gryffindor more of a chance because part of why I think the statistics have stayed the same is because we have a certain number of people in each house that are dedicated to earning house points....like there are so many people in the Beta that are dedicated to it. Once we actually start getting new people there might suddenly be a different percentage of people in each house that are dedicated to earning house points so it might change more then.

I'm not really sure why I care more about keeping the points.....I think part of it is because being sorted into Hufflepuff made me personally feel like I have more to prove to people because a lot of people assume that Hufflepuffs are weak, not skilled, and the losers of Hogwarts. I don't agree but I feel that being sorted there means I have more to prove than if I had been sorted into any of the other 3 houses. So I guess I'm more protective of my points.

I highly doubt that would happen.....but that would certainly be strange. I can say I'd certainly be confused if I had to get sorted again and I ended up in a different house(which is probably possible, even while still answering all questions honestly, if I got completely different questions than last time I could potentially end up somewhere else). It would just be weird since then I would wonder where I really belong.

I doubt they'll confuse people like that.
