Re: Pottermore v.10
I've gave up with this.
I had some interest in it 3-4 months back, but their continual delaying has scunnered me big time. I may sign up for it once it finally opens, that's of course providing I'm not old and grey by then. Although from what I hear it's not that great anyway. |

I think that this would be great if they could keep it on your profile somewhere: you could click to have a history of points for each session. It would be ideal if they would have a House Cup for each time period between the release of the books, or for a fixed time period. That way, they could record and reset your points after each "year," both showing how many you earned and clearing the slate for everyone each time. That's only fair: it gives every House a chance to earn a House Cup every so often, and reflects Hogwarts's system. (Just because Slytherin won the House Cup by 100 points one year doesn't mean it should have an advantage going into the next.) ETA: When they postponed the release, they said that they were aiming for the e-Books to be released in the first half of the year. I'm assuming their goal is to have the site live by June at the latest (and if they were to release after the one-a-week chapter update releases, the site would open around late March/early April.) I just wish that they would update the Insider and give people a better projected timeframe. Even saying "Hey, there are problems, expect it to be at least X weeks" would be nice. |
Re: Pottermore v.10
I am anxious for the ebooks. I won't have to search for the books anymore. They'll be where I know they are...my computer.

For those, like you, who have been waiting for Pottermore to be released to the public, I can just say that when it happens, it will probably be well worth the wait. They had to hype it up to get people to want to join the beta testing period. Without advertisement, there would have been no interest. As it stands, there are several accounts that are inactive. At present, of the initial 1M people who were allowed to join, only 686,200 accounts have been accessed or used. What happened to the others? Either they are from individuals who have not made it to the sorting hat yet, or they are from people who did the beta test tasks more than once and created more than one account... Unfair, I know... but it's the nature of people... |
Re: Pottermore v.10
And then there are those of us who aren't interested in making potions or dueling . . .
|
Re: Pottermore v.10
... Which at this point are the only things left to do...
Once the beta is over and/or the next book is released, there will be more excitement in it... |
Re: Pottermore v.10
I'm so glad duelling is now working. It had been months since I had visted the site, but yeah, I'm addicted to duelling, even though I've only won 5 points so far, lol! Obviously I need to practice on my typing skills. Anyone got any duelling tips?
Oh and finally they've approved my artwork on the site, so yay for that too! Have you guys heard of MyHogwarts? apparently it's like Pottermore, but you can take interactive classes etc? |

MyHogwarts can be discussed here from now on. |
Re: Pottermore v.10
Interesting article:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/05/sony_hirai/ Sony, of course, is Pottermore's main partner, and it looks like they're quite possibly doing some major restructuring. Sony may decide to cut ties with Pottermore, but it will depend on what their contract with JKR says. If it does stay up, Sony may not put any more into it than they contractually are obligated to do. All speculation, of course. The new CEO may decide Pottermore is the way to go, especially with the E-books coming out. |
Re: Pottermore v.10
The Potter franchise is so successful I think Sony would be crazy to cut ties with it. That's probably one of the best things they have going for them. It gives them a chance to grab the customers as children and then to build customer loyalty through their lifetimes. As long as Sony can provide them with what they want and need as they grow up and grow older, they will remain loyal. If not, they'll go somewhere else.

Re: Pottermore v.10
Sony is in financial trouble right now, and they just got a new CEO who is taking over on April Fool's Day - no joke! :scared: They can't compete with Apple. They are losing money on LCD televisions. They still have lots of money from music, but they need to retrench. Last Thursday their stock fell 6%: LA Times Story
I have no idea what this means for Pottermore except that it is hardly a priority for Sony. They have much bigger problems than Pottermore, but the question is how committed are they for the long term? Still, the internal affairs of Sony are important because it helps explain why Pottermore is stuck in the Beta stage. I googled "Pottermore Is" and got this: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...Is2-6-2012.jpg |
Re: Pottermore v.10
JKR was wanting to offer e books in each of the different formats, which i predicted would not happen, and be a huge issue. That cuts into profit, and currently Pottermore isn't earning any profit whatsoever. As far as I know, the only planned income was to be from the e books. In the mean time, they have to pay people to set the site up and keep it running.
I don't think people are using the site as they expected. They thought people would sign up, read the new information, try out some games, buy some books, and then leave until the next book is released. But there will always be those who, if you give them something to compete for (in this case, the House Cup), will spend hours on the site, dueling for points. I don't think they expected this much traffic. Pottermore will be very low priority for Sony, I believe. And until the e books become available, I don't see the site leaving Beta. |
Re: Pottermore v.10
I was surprised to see the message the last time I was in Pottermore that they were extending the Beta testing period. They were so sure they'd be ready to launch by the 1st of October, and here it is February. That doesn't sound good. JKR put a lot of her own money into Pottermore. I imagine it was in order to maintain "creative control," or whatever you want to call it. I wonder how stuck she is in her contract with Sony, and if any other company (Apple?) might want to pick up Pottermore if Sony decides to pull out? Ms. Rowling seems to be a pretty astute business woman and I'd say she probably had protection for her investments. But, as far as continuing Pottermore or going on with the e-books, I don't know why she just doesn't go with Amazon and/or Barnes and Noble for the Kindle or Nook readers.
Love those Google sites that come up with Pottermore. Funny...and true. I've about given up on it. I pulled my hair out when potion after potion was ruined because the stupid spoon wouldn't move or I tried to pick up an ingredient and it slipped before I got it into the cauldron in time -- after waiting 95 minutes to add it and having only seconds to do so. I'd like to think I could pick up or stir things with my hands better than with a cursor and that I'm not a complete idiot because the counter didn't pick up all three or four of the quills or measures of crushed whatever that I added. And, the spells were a bit boring after one or two. I think the way they did them in the video games was better, just tracing the wand waving pattern rather than trying to click on letters. I put that in as a suggestion. That, and cutting back the waiting time for potions to brew. Some of us have other things to do. But, then again, the site is for kids who have nothing else to do, I guess. |
Re: Pottermore v.10
I don't think I even care about going there if and when it ever gets opened to anyone. I just wanted more info on the characters and see how I'd be sorted and stuff like that, I love to read, and thought it would be very interesting the get new information and such on the characters and places and everything. Oh, well, maybe eventually she'll put together that Encyclopedia thing in book form, and then for me it might be the heck with Pottermore, I have the book!

Re: Pottermore v.10
I just want it to open for ONE thing she promised--the backstory of the Diagon Alley Ice Cream Man  I will now attempt to spell his name: Flortescue? Flotesc? Flortecus? Floreteclulous?:argh:

I'm a bit confused... my artwork, which I've just uploaded here: http://acireale.deviantart.com/art/T...bike-284068312
has been rejected: Hi QueenJinx40, While we’re pleased to see you making the most of Pottermore, you should be aware that a recent drawing you uploaded of Harry Potter has been removed because it does not follow our moderation guidelines. We encourage you to read them here Terms & Conditions. Unfortunately, we cannot enter into correspondence regarding individual decisions. Re: Pottermore v.10
I have no idea. My only guess is that it's because your drawing is showing a figure in a reclining position, and Pottermore is trying very hard to be ultra family friendly, but I just went through the Snape drawings, and several of those are less family friendly that your's.
Not that I'm saying your's isn't family friendly - I just see Pottermore as being very picky, especially since we could not choose our own user names, etc. |
