Re: Harry Says a Few Words

I thought that it was a very touching sentiment and written very well in context, like JKR's style. However, at one point you have Harry saying to the crowd, "You're his equals, his colleagues, his superiors, even." I don't think that Harry believes that anyone is even Dumbledore's equal, let alone superior. That is my only real complaint; I enjoyed reading it.

A recent BBC article says, the Ford Anglia used for the film disappeared sometime between October 26 and October 27 from its home at the film studios at Pennwinnick Road in St. Anges. The police say it was stolen...but we all know the truth. The magical truth.

Sure, everyone pretends it's all Hollywood special effects and "technical wizardary," but we all know that the car really was magical. If this incident doesn't prove it, nothing will. The car was left outside overnight and it made its move. It cleverly fooled everyone into thinking it was a normal car. Letting people think they were driving it, deceiving the public into thinking that it couldn't move on its own, but now it's escaped to join Herbie and Knightrider onwards to freedom.

Re: Harry Says a Few Words

Thank you . It's funny, because I considered taking that part out, but I think the main reason why I left that bit in was because Harry is addressing, not only his classmates, but also bureaucratic body of wizards and I wondered if he shouldn't be just a little diplomatic in front of people like Scrimgeour and whatnot rather than stirring controversy at an already tense event. In the end, I figured people could read it as an ironic statement - "politics and hierarchy makes you higher-ranked... but that's about all. I was just his student. But I still knew him best." Or something to that effect. Good lordy, I overthink these things...

Re: Harry Says a Few Words

Harry has never been one to promote himself and only raises his voice to those beyond his closest friends when he must. Although it's hard for me to imagine Harry *wanting* to stand up and become the center of attention, especially when there could be enemies present, I could better see McGonagall, hearing the tufty-haired man speak for so long, focusing her shrewd eye on Harry and thinking to herself, "There's so much more to Dumbledore than that, and who better to hear it from than Harry, if he'll not object to being put on the spot." Harry's whole speech comes off as unplanned and unscripted, which is what makes it so beautiful and sincere. Good job!

By the way, can I leave instructions in my will for someone to contact you to write a seeming unplanned and unscripted eulogy for me, too?

That's fantastic, I hadn't even thought of that!

LOL! *blushes* I'm flattered! Are you expecting any Dark Wizards to do you in these days?

Re: Harry Says a Few Words

That was beautiful. And I must confess, that I too cried during and after the reading. How like Dumbledore, even with an eulogy, to encourage others. That was a lovely expression for Harry. Thanks

Wow, that took me right back to when I first read the funeral scene, very emotive and well written. Well done!
Dumbledore lives on! (not literally but you know...)

Wow! That was really beautiful! A great idea to write it from Harry's point of view. I think you captured what he would have said perfectly. Wonderful job!

Re: Harry Says a Few Words

I really loved this--I thought it was very well written and sounded like something Harry would say. The only complaint I have is the use of the word "sullen" to describe McGonagall's voice before Harry begins to speak. No offense, but I think you've got the wrong definition. www.m-w.com defines sullen as "gloomily or resentfully silent or repressed." and also says "SULLEN implies a silent ill humor and a refusal to be sociable." In my opinion, McGonagall wouldn't sound sullen--she's not silent or refusing to be sociable, just depressed over Dumbledore's death. I think "somber" would work better in context. But other than that, it was absolutely awesome. Good job!

Pardon my french, but holy (insert word that rhymes 'snap')! You're absolutely right! I guess that's what I get for writing HP stuff during my lunch break, eh? Thanks for the heads up (now if only I could get in there and edit...)

Re: Harry Says a Few Words

That was beautiful. I got chills from reading it, not to mention I teared up a little too.
