Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

So many interesting forms of torment, all delightful ideas for Umbridge.

Quote:
LOL I dunno if I'd wish death on her but it WOULD be nice to see her forced to apologise to Harry for her treatment of him!
I'll just expand on your idea...
Her new job will be writing letters of apology to the students and all members of the "creature" community...and you know the quill she'd need to use! Poetic justice. A taste of her own medicine if you will. Naturally she'd be writing these lengthy letters in ...

a tiny office somewhere on the lower floors of the DoM, with no plant, no window and no coffe machne. Doing a really mind blowing boring job like putting in order drawing pins (thumb tacks) by colour, or something equally boring.
Although the idea of her becoming what she hates has its merits.
I think her working in creature relation offices would cause more problems than it is worth...unless she worked with the werewolves. Just imagine if she tried to treat them poorly...especially if it was that time of the month!

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

ooooh, goody goody gumdrops. i can let it rip here, because no-one likes umbridge, unlike snape. well firstly i hope she get banished to the depths of hell, then i hope she gets savaged by... well something horrible, and then... well i could go on for hours, but i won't. i hope whatever happens to her makes her really helpless, because she always uses her power to be... well, and stupid evil git. that was what made her so bad wasn't it? a hated character that had more power than dumbledore (not magically speaking of course) . anyways, back to tormenting her... i've done depths of hell, savaged by evil creature, but i don't think i've done pit of snakes...

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

I think Jo kept Dolores' character alive to allow Harry to ease off his anger by torturing her in the same way as she did to him-only the line won't be I won't tell lies-it will be"I won't come back to Hogwarts"!

I'm not sure I'd want Harry to descent to her level, I'd rather she'd be tortured by someone else...

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

Ah Umbridge! I cannot wait for what Jo has in store for her in the last book. Now that she has a phobia of centars, nothing would scare her more than thrown in the Forbidden Forest with a tape player (or a magic equivilent) playing "I hate half-human freaks!" really loud in the background. All we would have to do is wait... Also I think Umbridge getting bitten by a werewolf (Go, Lupin, Go!) has so much irony and the fact of her being a werewolf alone would drive her insane! Wait... maybe we don't want that.... lol

Oh I could go on and on....

I certainly hope they don't allow her back.

Umbridge is a horrible woman, i can't stand it when she makes Harry write lines. Maybe she'll replace Dumbledore, I certainly hope not
she tried to replace dumbly once and her attempt failed miserably. I don't think with Mcgonagal as headmistriss that Umbridge would get far, especially with how Mcgonagal treated her when umbridge tried to observe her transfiguration class.

Then you have the ' silly girl ' issue

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

I think she might get into some magical bungles of some kind.

We've already seen that even though she has a lot of influence with the ministry, she is not a particularly skillful witch. I hope JKR's attention to Umbridge's lack of magical skills is some indication of her downfall in the last book.

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

It wouldn't surprise me if the Ministry tries to stick their noses into Hogwarts again and place her back at the school. If at first you don't succeed try try again. It will not work and I hope that it all comes to a sticky end and she dies or gets carried off by the centaurs and this time there is not Dumbledore to save her hide.

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

Given JKR's sense of humor, Umbridge will likely get into some kind of trouble, and Harry will be the one to help her out of it-that would be pretty funny.

Seriously, with her tendencies, I wouldn't be too surprised if she cropped up on LV's side in book 7. She's just such an evil character and it def. suits Voldemort to have supporters within the ministry. So that's my guess, she'll be a Voldemort supporter.
Im with ya! I seriously hate her and Bellatrix Lestrange. I can tolerate Voldemort and Snape bcuz they are evil and i like their characters...but Bellatrix and Umbridge are horrible. I feel that way bcuz she is a teacher (umbridge) and i hate mean teachers!!!
Well i just hope she gets a Dementors' kiss or she burns in the fireplace while trying to listen to Harry's conversation with someone..LOL

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

I for one also do not believe that Dolores Umbridge is strictly evil or a death eater. Does she have the potential? Yes, but so does everyone else, her more than others. But what I think makes her tick is the same thing that inhibits Percy Weasley - ambition, drive, and the ability to seek them with utter disregard to other people.

They are both the same. Both have no real use of emotional ties but to use them to get farther into the ranks of the ministry, ahhh, the MINISTRY - their heart and soul.

Admittingly, Percy shows more remorse for what he is doing, but in essence, they are practicing the same ideals.

I think what Percy and Dolores represent is how easy it is to become, at least partly, "evil." Even the people in which are supposed to protect us, it is easy to go down the path of Voldemort. One can easily compare the ambition of these two to Voldemort. THe only difference, the objects of their desire. This is why it is so easy to think that those two are death eaters, they have the same driving emotion - ambition.

And while they both exhibit characteristics and disregard for life as do death eaters, they fact that their desires differ and they are both extremely selfish prevents them from joining.

I would argue that these two are likely to become, but are not as of yet death eaters. With Dumbledore gone and the ministry fully on its own now, a lack and a degeneration of morals and ethics should be on rise. More importantly - Voldemort will have easier access and manuevering within the ministry and it is very likely that Dolores or percy could be recruited with terms and offers I don't believe they could put down...Dolores more than Percy.

You mean like...in Arthur Weasley's old office?

Maybe when Harry goes for his Apparation Test he'll see her pushing a broom, or she'll have to serve him tea. Same as the lady who pushes the cart on the Hogwart's Express.

Proper turnaround for a nasty, power hungry...er, I can't use that word here.

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

I bet she is in some low-lying job at the ministry. Like caretaker of the ministry's owlery or something! And, I bet she has to go to St. Mungos for therapy every week or something! Shes probably a highly unstable person now.

I don't see HeadMistress McGonagall hiring Umbridge (whose incompetence has been amply demonstrated, and as McG herself has pointed out*) as a teacher in a million years! What would she teach? "How to be as nasty as a Death Eater without actually being one"?

* "I didn't make myself clear. I meant Harry got high marks in DADA from competent teachers." (or words to that effect, I'm quoting from memory.)

A big thank to the student who directed me to this thread by posting in the one I started about Umbridge being sent to Azkaban.

Digressing a bit - this just occurred to me - Azkaban must not be so horrible now, must it, without Dementors as wardens? It's actually just like any other prison.

Re: The future of Dolores Umbridge

I wouldn't be suprised to see Umbridge come in towards the final battle with Voldemort as a form of comic relief. I don't think the end of book seven is going to be happy. It would make sense to have Rowling use her in a humorous scene before the dark and sad scenes come.

I think that umbridge could be back as a teacher at Hogwarts, maybe the Ministry of Magic feels sorry for her.
