Re: Harry's Scar
Well reporters probably wanted to get on this case (some may be like Rita Skeeter even though she wasnt there) some people already said it, Hagrid could have let it slip and Dumbeldore probably told the Ministry about it as Voldemort was gone it would have been something Dumbeldore told the world
'voldemort is gone and Harry killed him and all that was left was a lightning bolt scar on his forehead' you know only more detailed..

Re: Harry's Scar
I think Sirius went to Azkaban without a trial, right? And Cornelia, since Rita Skeeter was at Barty Crouch, Jr.'s trial and it wasn't too long after the Potters' attacks, I'd think she would be around for it. And although we don't know when Aberforth's goat incident happened, she reported it, I believe it came out before the night of Godric's Hollow. So I think we have reason to believe she's been around, sticking her nose in other people's business, for a long while. I'm not saying Rita was the source, just that she was around.
Dumbledore's discretion is shown throughout the series. If the story isn't his to tell, he doesn't.. with Neville being the 'Boy That Could Have Been' being the exception, but as that was tied to Harry (and he only told him), I don't count it. I could see him telling the MoM that Voldemort is gone and since they showed up at Godric's Hollow, they'd know the Potters were attacked, making a connection- Albus would confirm that.. but Harry was gone by then. No one there would have seen the scar and know he was the reason for the vanquishing. I don't even see how the Ministry officials showing up would know Harry was still alive (or had been there), except for the lack of his body. Voldemort hadn't attacked a baby before (Hagrid tells us this), so how would he be known as "The Boy Who Lived"? How did the public know Harry was attacked and he was the reason for Voldemort's 'death' SO quickly? Maybe I'm wrong about Dumbledore and he spread the word, but it seems hugely uncharacteristic of him, to me. He brought Harry to Privet Drive firstly for the blood protection it offered him, but he also wanted Harry to grow up as normal as possible- not be known for what happened that night. That doesn't seem like the thought process he'd go through right after spreading the news of Harry's triumph. I'm guessing we have another party involved in GH, probably with a big mouth. ![]() |

Re: Harry's Scar
Since Crouch wanted the minister of magic job I doubt that he would have sent anyone straight to Azkaban.
I think Dumbledore would have insisted on a trial. Even if he thaught he was guilty. He would have used the trial to gather more information regarding Voldemort's dissapearance just like he did with all the other trials |

Re: Harry's Scar
Yeah that's right, Sirius says in GoF that Crouch wouldn't allow him a trial. Unfair on Sirius of course, but then again the evidence that Sirius had killed Wormtail was pretty good.
The only way I can think of people finding out would be through rumours.
