"What?" said Cedric, looking up.

"Dragons," said Harry, speaking quickly, in case Professor Flitwick came out to see where Cedric had got to. "They've got four, one for each of us, and we've got to get past them."

Cedric stared at him. Harry saw some of the panic he'd been feeling since Saturday night flickering in Cedric's gray eyes.

"Are you sure?" Cedric said in a hushed voice.

"Dead sure," said Harry. "I've seen them."

Welcome Champions to the First Task!

Unlike Harry, you don't have to get past a dragon. What you do have to do is depict one. You can choose any format, any media. You can hand draw something, create an image with Paint, modify an image by someone else (as long as you give them credit) or create an animation. There are no restrictions other than your imagination and the usual family friendly requirements.

Your entry must involve dragons in some way but you're free to do so in any manner you choose. You are not limited to dragons as portrayed in the HP Universe although you're welcome to do so if you wish.

Be creative and have fun. Entries must be submitted between February 15 and February 22. Each champion is allowed to submit one entry only.

Harry Potter and the Asian Dragon

In Asia, the Imperial Dragon or Long, is considered to be the primary of four benevolent spiritual animals, the other three being the phoenix, the unicorn and the tortoise. (Note that three of the four are present in HP books.) The Vietnamese, like the Chinese, consider themselves “Dragon Seed” – in fact in our legends, the Viet people are the offspring of the Dragon King and the Faerie Queen, who got married, produced 50 sons and 50 daughters and sent them forth to populate what became known as Vietnam. Unlike in the West, Asian Dragons are wise and benevolent. They bring life-giving rains and fertility to the earth.

Here's how the Dragon King looks to Harry Potter (note the unicorn in the corner opposite to Harry.)



Thus, had Harry Potter and his friends been Asian wizards, or been faced with Asian Dragons, the First Task would probably have been to enlist a Dragon’s help, not get past one. Later, they’d probably have ridden Dragons, not Thestrals, to the Ministry of Magic.

So, here's Harry riding his Asian Dragon:



As we all know, Harry came out ahead and won the Tournament. In appreciation and celebration, he led the traditional Dragon Dance:



And they all lived happily ever after, because the Asian Dragons made mincemeat of Voldie.

This is hand drawn, with the dragon face copied from a cartoon I saw online. The notion is that Harry was fascinated by the Marauders' ability to become animagus. So, his animagus form was that of a Dragon, although he still needed his glasses to see.

I am so bad with Paint, so I figured Pencils would have to do!

His name is Crocker (Draconis Kimodo) -- by the way. He only recently hatched, and he is a bit scared of the big dragons in the thread. Be kind to him. He likes chicken if you have any leftovers. Keep small pets away, though...

Crocker was raised on goats' milk cheese provided by a wizard named Aberforth Dumbledore. It is rumored that because the particular goat whose milk was used to make said cheese was somehow charmed by Aberforth, the resultant cheese afforded Crocker with immense resistance to most magical restraints.

I made Crocker using images of crocodiles, Komodo dragons, maple leaves, various textures, a red filter, a fruit bat, and the background was done using a concrete brush and a gradient to simpulate space and clouds.

This is Windsor. Hes a Nimblean Northern Pink, a rare breed, found mainly in the skies seeing as this type of dragon has no legs to live on the land. Windsor is 20 feet long and feeds mainly on fish and small animals. He doesnt normally venture to areas inhibited by humans, but he would never say no to a first year for a bedtime snack. He got his name from his pretty front, which reminds me of a neck tie, or a windsor knot. Seeing a dragon like Windsor in the skies is cause to make a wish, because his breed is rumoured to be extremely lucky.


This is a close up of his scaly tail, my favorite part, since it took hours to color.


PS hes made out of pencil and paper and he comes from my brain alone.

What do mean I'm not as scary as a Hungarian Horntail!?

My dragon's name is.... Dragon, well he was named by a 2 year old! just used a digital camera and photoshop to sort out the sizing.

No catch phrase for my dragon, but I'd just like to say a few things about my dragon. I carved it out of Balsa Foam (which is why there are some orangish spots, I couldn't cover them with paint because they were like holes), and I used acrylic paint. carving probably took me around 20 hours, all spread out across the week so my friends think I'm basically obsessed with this thing (which I kinda am now ) but painting only took around 2. It took long to carve mostly because i had to carve back to get the dragon's body to stand out. Anyways, it's like a cross from an eastern dragon and a western dragon. The head is supposed to somewhat resemble this dragon: http://www.dragonlance.com/downloads...neWall1024.jpg and the rest is like a snake but all dragoned up . I was going to put in this fake ruby thing for the eye but I decided it would be too hard. Can't wait to see the rest of the dragons.
