MoM Elections: Challenge One is up now!

Welcome teams to the first Challenge. Each Monday we're going to be posting a new Challenge for the team to respond to as a group. You guys will have until that Friday (unless otherwise specified) to decide on your candidates response and then the candidate will post the final product. All brainstorming should go on in your social group where the other teams can't see it.

This week's challenge: Introductory Statements.

Both candidates should prepare a short speech on what they've done in the past, what they bring to the Ministry and what their priorities will be if elected. Both candidates should adress the issue of what makes them a good team and why they will work well together.

Owl the finished speeches to each of the candidates on your team when you are finished.

OK.... Following a discussion in our group Hermione suggested that we should ask for clarification here:

Is the statement supposed to take the form of an actual written speech, or can it be a kind of text more adapted to thread format? Can we use visual aids?

Oh, and while I am at it: is there some sort of limit on length?

Since the speech will be read and not spoken out loud, any textual and visual aids are allowed

As for the length, it's your own choice, but on a personal note I would say keep it to the point. Long speeches tend to drag and the longer they are the easier people get distracted by other things.

Is there a minimum and maximum length? I agree that too long speeches get boring (I could never get through the whole of Arthur Weasley's speech for example...) But how short can it be?

Also, do we need two speeches, one for each of the team members, or will one common speech do?

Whatever the team decides is fine. But this is a chance to communicate your message to voters so I'd assume that you wouldn't want it to be too short.

You need two speeches, in your case one from Cedric and one from George.

What will happen to the speeches after Friday? Will they all be posted in a special Campaign thread or in the Daily Prophet?

I'd assume they're meant to be in first person, from the POV of the candidates, but I thoguht I'd double check.

I'd probably go with first person, but in the end it's up to you.

It's worth also to check the 'I am about to retire' thread in the Administration Services forum. They seem to be more definite in their instructions over there....
