Antonin Artaud

Hello!
So i take Drama and Theatre Studies at AS Level, and at the moment we are studying Artaud as well as other things. I was wondering of anyone has heard of him, and what they thought of the ideas his put across in Theatre. I think it is interesting, we are doing assessments in our classes where we create a piece of Artaud Work. Has anyone else looked at him before, if you share your experiences about it here!
So your thoughts. Thanks!

Re: Antonin Artaud

For one of my last essays for college I read an essay of his. Can't remember what the name of it was but I think it was about the arts in general rather than just theatre. A lot of the stuff I ended up taking down for my own interest rather than for the essay, for example, the bits about having no more of those dull introspective poems that benefit no one but the writer. I'm not sure how possible what he was saying was. Like plays only mean something in the time they are written so shouldn't be repreformed. But I think that that kind of stomps out any feeling of continuity in performance. Or maybe that wasn't him.

Re: Antonin Artaud

OMG, I hate that I'm so late seeing this (like, almost 2 years, lol) - I LOVE Artaud. Him and Brecht are my favorite theorists. Not sure why, just something about the way they think and what they think theatre ought to be that I really relate to.

I did a big report on both in college. I hope you enjoy him! So few people have heard of him, I always feel like I'm meeting a kindred spirit when I meet new theatre people who know of and/or like Artaud.

I must reread his work, actually. I have The Theatre and Its Double and also a massive volume of some other essays he wrote, but I haven't looked at them for years. I remember being very inspired by them, when I last did, though!
