I honestly don't think I could ever fall out of love with HP. I've been with the series since I was eleven, and finally finished when I was 18 (It would have been cool if I had been 17, but oh well). I feel honored and special to be a part of the 'Chosen Generation' because I'm sure others in the future will be envious that they weren't part of the Harry Potter furor when it was at it's peak. I can't wait until I have kids; when I will be able to pass my beloved books onto them.
Yeah, I have been a fan for 8 years now. I just have a feeling that I'm going to love it for the rest of my life. People I know tell me all the time that in a few years I won't be obsessed anymore, but I know that HP will always have a special place. I agree with you about being part of the "Chosen Generation"-I feel proud and happy that I was a part of HP when it was at its peak. I say that all the time and its the best feeling to relive those memories in my head. I feel bad for my little sister because I have just sarted reading SS to her and although she loves it(having been under my influence she knows a lot about HP for being only 5) she will never get to experience the midnight releases or dressing up for events or dicussing theories. Having been in love with HP since the beginning its hard to fall out of love. Harry Potter has truley changed my life and I can't imagine what I would be like if it didn't exist. Siriusly I don't know how I ever got by the first 6 years of my life. No HP? That's crazy! I bet my future kids will be named after HP characters....

Re: Falling out of love with HP

i don't think i'll ever get really tired or fall out of love with the series. what i have fallen out of love with was the movies. i think you'll all agree that the movies were complete drivel next to the books. i will say that the books had some slow parts and i like some books in the series better than others. for instance i didn't like chamber of secrets as much as i liked prisoner of azkaban. that's just me though.

i would like to point out that dumbledore was not depraved in any way. he was just gay. get over the homophobia and move on please. i don't have the greatest memory but i don't remember dumbledore doing anything depraved in the whole series. the only reason why you've stopped loving these books is because you found out dumbledore was a gay character and you didn't like that. it shouldn't effect your view of the series one iota.

So its over, and I'm removed enough now to say comfortably that I have fallen out of love with HP... I think. Are you there too?

I reread DH 3 times the first two weeks it was out. I couldn't answer anyone who asked my what I thought about it. I was just blank. I cried, no, sobbed... no, convulsed my way through every chapter beyond the appearance of the silver doe (that’s a lot of book to sob through). But I still have this unbelievably blank feeling whenever I'm asked to say what I think about the series.

Does anyone else have this utter inability to summon up any more emotion to the series?

I'm right there with you. However, my experience is a bit different as to why my love for the series has dwindled down to almost none. I hated DH. I've only read it once, but there is no way that I'll be reading it again. It was just...ugh. Because the last book left such a sour taste in my mouth, my opinion of the series, which used to be all praises, has now become a bit of "eh" whenever someone asks me what I think of it. Harry Potter's story will always have a special place in my heart, but because of the last book, the beautiful opinion I had of the story is now merely an "okay." It's kind of sad, but I'm not in love with the story anymore; haven't been for about two years now.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

Well... My problem is that I don't have anymore emotion, but what I had is still lingering.
So it's like I have the same amount I always did, except for the fact that it feels far away.
I still listen to the books on tape, though, like...every day. They help me go to sleep.

But EVERY time dumbledore pops up in the books, I feel the same as I always did.
It's like there is always something to figure out with him.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I have loved this series since I first started reading it. I was not very excited to start as everyone I knew was reading and raving about it (around the time between books 3 and 4). However, once I started reading I coudn't stop and I was one of those pre-order people for books 4-7.

Since the series has ended, I have read the series twice from start to finish and I am currently on my third read-through (on book 3). Before Harry Potter, I was way into Star Wars and the expanded universe and I own about 30+ books to prove it. I still love going back and re-reading those books but it seems like I have more interest in Harry Potter currently. If my past is any indication of my future, I will always love Harry Potter as I love Star Wars, but there will probably always be a new series that grabs my interest for a long time and hopefully it will be a permenant fixture like Star wars and Harry Potter now are.

I have been eyeing Twilight but I know....Harry Potter seems much better from an outsider looking in...

I don't think that I have ever fallen out of love with HP. I have gone through phases where I don't read the books for months, then one day I'll pick up one of the books and be completely hooked again I hope that I never fall out of love with the series, I don't think it's possible for me - it's been a big part of my life.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I don't think I can ever fall out of love with HP. I think when I first began reading the series I was like, "Oh, this is great! Best series ever!" In truth, it is one of the best series of books ever, but I think whenever somone begins reading HP, they have this whole fervor over it where they're buying all the products and movies, but then the fervor starts to die down a bit.

I still love HP with my whole heart, but I don't think I go as crazy over it as I used to. I still go crazy when I see the movies or other things like that, but HP has been too big of a part of my life and I have gotten so much enjoyment out of it that I won't ever leave it.

Same with HP. At the moment, I am still rather obsessed with discussion and debate, hence my busyness on this particular messageboard!

But even when the obsessive phase passes, the love still remains.

That's exactly like me!

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I always have a lingering sense of HP fandom. I am not immersed in HP, but I am not far from it either. I enjoy other books, new, old, fiction, non-fiction, new read, re-read. I always come back to HP one time or another after I complete other books and I am very certain I will always be entertained by HP books in the future anytime I feel like going back to enjoy them.

I have gone through decent perionds of time where I havn't read a book, watched a movie or come on here. But I know that I will never stop enjoying HP all together, I have far too much and too long of a involvment with the story in my past.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I go through the phases where I try to read it but can't. It's not that I don't like the books anymore, it's just that I don't feel like reading them. Then something will happen like a movie release and I'll be right back into them. Barring a movie though, I'll end up picking them up again after a couple months anyway.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I can not stop reading the books. I have to keep on buying new ones to replace the ones I have destroyed. I am worried I might be addicted. But then there does not seem to be any new books that interest me.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I doubt I will fall out of love with HP anytime soon. Even if I am hooked on another collection of books and Hp looks well...............*just not in the mood*...................ditching it forever will be difficult. I know the characters too well. I am far too familiar with the strange objects and fantastc places. To want to NEVER think about HP again would be close to insanity.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I'm kind of hoping I'll stop liking HP one day; I already feel rather embarrassed that I'm 20 and still love this story. For now though, I can't imagine never going back to that world again. There are quite large amounts of time (up to a year even) when I'm not interested in reading the books or discussing them at all, but my love for it always resurfaces sooner or later. I've known and loved these books for literally half my life, I can't imagine turning my back on them forever.

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I think it should be a poll in this thread - asking if we would ever fall out of love with HP or not...

Re: Falling out of love with HP

I have always "loved" the series, even if reading the books did not stir emotion in me, the sheer nostalgia that seeing them and anything related to them overwhelms me. THAT is what makes me emotional.
