Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
soda, chips, um, I guess that sort of thing. It's been a while since I've been to a pool party. Hot dogs and hamburgers, yes.

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
It's way too cold for a pool party here! Still frost on the grass early in the morning, and there was even a light dusting of snow on the cars a couple days ago.
If it's an indoor heated pool, though, count me in!

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
So was there any tomfoolery round the boards here yesterday? I did not get online at all, it was Sunday and the nearby libraries were closed. I think it will likely be no internets on Sunday for me until Sage & I get web service at home.

No tomfoolery here. Uneventful April Fool's Day. Must have been because it was also Palm Sunday.

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
I was a bit disappointed that there was no jokes. Of course, it's possible the staff has been changed and the ones who do the pranks were no longer working there.
Baseball season is starting-- party time!! Hot dogs, peanuts, cracker jacks, soda or beer. No fancy foods like sushi or crab cakes or whatever is sold in the ballparks. |

What've you got against crab cakes? I love crab cakes.

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
I love crab cakes, too! I love most seafood. But, crab cakes at a baseball park? Weird. Hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, pizza, nachos, popcorn, soda, beer (well, none for me, thanks)... That reminds me. People always ask what kind of food can you bring to Turner Field (where my Atlanta Braves play) and the answer is "you could bring a steak dinner if you don't mind having to use a plastic knife." But, please, a steak dinner is not baseball food.
Time to celebrate the start of baseball season even if my team did lose yesterday to their rivals.

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
Hm. 'round here, most entertainment venues don't allow people to bring their own food in. They want to charge outrageous concessions prices to all and sundry.
If you did bring your own steak dinner, though, what's to stop you bringing your own knife and fork? I haven't been to a ball park in years, not being one who likes professional ball sports. The racetracks, though--that's a different story. South Sound Speedway has unusual rules about what is and isn't allowed through the pit gate. One of them is no glass bottles--no matter what's in them. So I can't go in with a Starbuck's frappucino. ![]()

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
The ballpark in Phoenix AZ allows us to bring in our own food, providing it is in a soft-sided cooler that fits under your seat. If you brought steak, then you could bring a fork and a plastic knife, if the steak fits in your small cooler.
I didn't mean to attack crab cakes. But I have read that some ballparks sell crab cakes, which I think is odd at a ball game. There are some stadiums with suites that sell gourmet food, like crab cakes and steaks, even wine. these are the expensive seats, you get tablecloths, linen napkins and real dishes and silverware. We also have rules against glass bottles and whole fruits. If you want to bring an apple, it has to be cut up. Oranges and bananas are o.k. because they are soft. Yes, fans have thrown apples at the players. I like to bring water from home in a water bottle that I can refill from the drinking fountain. But, because it is an open bottle, I cannot bring it in. Water can be mistaken for clear liquors, which are not allowed. So, I have to buy bottle water, which I buy at the grocery store. It can cost $3.50 for a small bottle of water at the ball park. I have taken some time off from the forum for Easter. I didn't do a lot of partying, but spent time reading and relaxing. Now I am ready to party!! |

I watched a show on TV (probably several, actually) on ballpark food and some of it is quite outrageous. Sushi? Really? I love sushi, but not on a hot summer's day outside watching baseball.

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
So you're not allowed whole apples, because you might throw them at the players, but not bananas, because they're soft?
Tomatoes are soft, too. But aren't they more frequently thrown at people you don't like than apples? Of course an apple would probably hurt more, but I'd still hate to have tomatoes thrown at me. Last time I got tomato juice on my skin I got an itchy rash. Actually I think I'd rather have an apple thrown at me than a banana, too. I can't stand the smell of bananas.

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
I was told by the security people at the Chase Field (Phoenix, AZ) that apples were not to be allowed into the park unless they were cut up. Apparently, the first year, someone did throw an apple or two at a player. Mind you, they might not have hit anyone, because of security and also there isn't a place that is close to the players. (Unlike Wrigley Field where fans are closer to the players). They did mention no food brought in at all, except the fans became upset. I would worry too about beer being tossed at a player.
We might get rain here in Phoenix this week, so if anyone knows any rain dances, please do so and if you have any rain music, play it. We can party in the rain. |

Re: The Never Ending Party 2.0
I hadn't heard about someone trying to throw an apple at a player. With the nutjobs that attend baseball games (not all are nutjobs, I'm not, but there are some who certainly are) that get drunk I'm not surprised.

Potlucks are the best form of dinner party.
Second comes the progressive dinner.

Potlucks are fun. You only have to prepare one dish and many people bring great things you might never have tried.
