BBC showed Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the Wererabbit today - 2 of the voices are done by Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Feinnes ( No dodgy/cringeworthy/thretening hugs though....)

I don't think he was a sidekick in Driving Lessons. Was he in Cherry Bomb?

No. As far as I could find it didn't even get festival or art house release in Australia.

Okay, Stephen Fry was never in the films but he narrated the UK audiobooks so I think he qualifies:

Stephen Fry in the new Sherlock Homes with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law... I am at once amazed, entertained and scarred for life LOL!!!

I haven't seen either of those. I was simply basing it off of the movies I have seen IE Thunderpants and Wild Target, in which there was a "Ron Weasley"ishness to his characters

Not a movie but I didn't realise Gary Oldman (Sirius) was the actor who spits on Joey while rehearsing for a play on Friends. I was watching Prisoner of Azkaban with my sister the other day and she pointed it out.

As a nasty landlord! A far cry from gentle Remus Lupin.

Also in War Horse: the excellent Scottish actor Peter Mullan, who played Yaxley to such superbly menacing effect in DH1. He's the young hero's dad and his Devon accent sounded pretty good to me.

I've been trying to pin that down for days - I knew he looked familiar!

Robert Hardy (Cornelius Fudge) has a small part in Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Frankenstein. Took me a moment to notice it was him, but the voice was unmistakable.

John Cleese and Helena Bonham Carter are also in it as one of Frankenstein's mentors and fiancee respectively.

Re: Noticing HP Actors in Other Movies

I just saw Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and John Hurt, who played Ollivander, was one of the main guys.

I wouldn't recommend the movie, though. Very slow, very boring. Only the third time in my life I've slept though a movie in the theaters (Ironically, the second was HP and the Sorcerer's Stone, lol)

At least it earned Gary Oldman his first Oscar nom.

TTSS has either been to my town and left already or hasn't been yet. Very strange.

I have seen the original BBC production of TTSS and John Hurt is uncanningly like the actor who played the original Control!

The story builds gradually - you really need to concentrate - I had read the book and seen the original production ( 30 years ago) but I couldn't remember who was guilty - I found it brilliant! One of my top 3 films of 2011!

I went to the theater to see The Artist only to discover it wasn't playing there so Tinker Tailor was a second choice and I SOOOO wasn't in the mood for that kind of movie! I wanted something upbeat, a comedy, basically something that would keep me awake.

I watched the first fifteen minutes of Tinker Tailor and then dozed through the next half hour and when I woke up I didn't feel like I had missed anything and also found I didn't really care about the characters or their problems at all. The only part of the movie I found slightly interesting was the young guy but even he couldn't keep my attention and I went back to dozing... =^/ I was bummed I didn't like it more.

I also thought the 'guilty' one was very obvious from their first introduction (I won't name them for fear of spoiling the film for others, tho)

Re: Noticing HP Actors in Other Movies

I actually think you probably slept through the parts of the film where first one agent is suspect and then the emphasis moves to another one...

John Hurt does the voice of the dragon in SyFy channel's Merlin.

Alice in Wonderland--Imelda Staunton, Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter...I don't think I'm leaving anyone out but if I am I apologize. I love seeing my favorite actors in movies outside of HP, just to see their character dynamics!

Re: Noticing HP Actors in Other Movies

A running joke among my family is that we'll notice HP actors in other movies, but then refer to them by different roles. For example, instead of saying that Absalom from Alice In Wonderland is played by the guy who plays Snape, we say it's by the guy who played Hans Gruber, or Marvin the Paranoid Android. It's like a game where if we actively say "so and so was in Harry Potter," we lose.

Re: Noticing HP Actors in Other Movies

I watched the TV version of "Titanic" this weekend--definitely not in the same league as James Cameron's, but watchable. At the beginning of Sunday's finale I noticed Geraldine Somerville (Harry's mum) in the cast, but didn't recognize her later on. Not surprising in all the confusion of a sinking ship! Anyway, it turns out she was Lady Manton, but I still don't know who that was!!
