Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

Casting off is pretty easy. Start by knitting 2 stitches. then loop the first one over the second one. Then knit another stitch and loop the 2nd one over the newly knit one. And so on until they are all off the needle. I'm sure there is a video that explains it better. Will look. The only thing it doesn't cover is how to take off the last stitch. When you have one stitch left, you cut the yarn from the ball, about a 6" length, and then thread it through the last loop to make a knot.

Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

Just curious if anyone is doing the big knit 2010 for innocent (the smoothie people). I've about 11 made so far and I'm starting to get more adventurous. I think it's just an Irish/UK thing thus far but curious to know if anyone else is doing it.

Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

Right, I haven't actually finished my first scarf, but it's getting colder and I want my stripy one before it gets too cold, so I've started it. I'm only actually on the second black stripe, with a purple one in the middle, but it doesn't look to bad so far. I was worried about changing the colours, but it seems OK. Will post pics when I get my camera back

Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

I can knit very neatly and evenly, I just make a complete pig's ear of it when I have to count. And I always make mistakes. So it's scarves all the way.

Has anyone tried illusion knitting? There's a great pattern with the dark mark on it.

Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

I've just started cross-stitching. Where can I find a Harry Potter related cross-stitch in the UK? Bare in mind I have just started so maybe something small to start with :3

Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

A Cross Stitch and Needlepoint Stitching truly is unique. And has a fun woven look to it and it makes for a denser knitting.

This pattern is simple to memorize but you did need to pay attention and have focus while knitting.Good luck!

I've knit before but it was total failure.
I'm not good at knitting, mostly I want to cry when it look different but I didn't.

Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

My mum did a lot of cross stitching while I was growing up so I've done a few myself. I've done two smallish-medium sized ones that I got framed and are hanging up in my bedroom, but I mostly did Xmas and birthday cards because they were smaller and easier to do I've not done any in ages though because college work got in the way and now my mum's stopped doing it so I'd have to go out and buy my own stuff if I wanted to start up again

I've never tried knitting, I think it would be good to try to learn though. I'd probably never use anything I made because I'd be too scared of it getting dirty or something

Re: Cross-stitch and knitting

Oh yay! A fellow cross-stitcher!

I'm currently working on four projects at the same time: a picture of Pope John Paul II, a picture of Jesus, a picture of the Titanic, and a picture of a little girl with a goose beside her. They're all very detailed, and I'm looking forward to finishing them. lol
