Re: NCAA Football thread

If Boise State goes undefeated, they will make it to the national championship game.

Re: NCAA Football thread

I don't think it'll be that simple. If they're the only undefeated team left in the nation, or one of two, I'd hope it shakes out like that. If there are three or more undefeated teams with Boisie as one of them, you can bet that Boisie will be the team left out of the national title game.

Florida won last year, but USC is the preseason #1 and they looked stacked. I'd like to see Wisconsin make a run (or BC), but I don't think they have National title talent - just maybe top-10 talent.

Chat away!
Eh...

Well, thanks for the thread! It was much-needed.

I'm a big fan myself.

No no no. Not Wisconsin. Yuck.

MSU FTW!

Re: NCAA Football thread

Notre Dame finally managed to hold onto a lead. That knocked MSU out of the rankings (I think) but they'll be strong in the Big Ten this year. OSU looked terrible against Miami and the Rockets just couldn't convert on the chances they had against Boisie. Result--they got run over at home (though not as bad as last year). I really wish Boisie was in a major conference so we could actually how good they were week to week because right now their schedule looks like the old-time independent schedule for Notre Dame in basketball (a bunch of schools that will try their hardest but will just get run over). If they were in the Big 12 and making life miserable for Texas and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, that would really be something.

Re: NCAA Football thread

I dunno about the respect the Big Ten might deserve (or not) when dealing with BCS bowls. ND had their second consecutive big win against Air Force and now has a bye week to preparefor USC.

I think the surprise team this season so far is Wake Forest.

I look for LSU to get revenge on Bama this year. Bama's going to Baton Rouge...they won't be receiving much of a warm welcome to Tiger Stadium.

Re: NCAA Football thread

Wac? I don't know a school by that name. I know of a WAC conference (the one Boisie keeps trying to escape) but no Wac school. Do you mean Wake Forest?

No, it's the conference. Six teams are leaving for other conferences in football beginning in 2013.

Re: NCAA Football thread

Yay, the season is here. Just today, I learned something rediculous. With the games being played despite Issac are Rutgers at Tulane, North Texas at LSU, and Lamar at Louisiana Lafeyette. Those road teams are flying in. The rediculous thing is Nicholls State(who's college is in Thibodaux,Louisiana) canceled their game at Corvallis. Now if those teams above are flying into Issac territory, how come they can't fly out and stay in Corvallis where it's safe while instead, they stay where it isn't safe. If they are worried about family, evacuate them. I think they are scared of losing. Just can't get over it. for furhter info, go to http://espn.go.com/college-football/...-season-opener Also just take a bus to New Orleans to fly. Very simple.

Re: NCAA Football thread

Genuine (and maybe not so genuine) upsets this week in college football. Pitt handily beat Virginia Tech (after losing to Youngstown State and Cincy). Notre Dame looked downright sloppy offensively and vulnerable in the secondary, but managed to shut down MSU 20-3. This leads to the idea that given the Irish weaknesses, maybe they belong at 20 (where they were) or maybe 23, but MSU belongs in the same general area. We don't know about Michigan yet. UMass. The biggest surprise of the day was Stanford's fourth straight victory of USC. It was a hard-fought seesaw game, but the Cardinal emerged victorious. Hmm. That ought to throw the polls into confusion.

Jordmunt, I'm a USC fan so I'm upset but this proves Stanford is not just about Luck.

Re: NCAA Football thread

And now, everyone's treating ND like they treated MSU last week. Good grief. I hope ND does win convincingly, but even if they did....most naysayers would say that it didn't prove anything because of how weak the Big Ten (..or is it 12 now) is.

I think USC can still climb back up.

Re: NCAA Football thread

They can if they run the table, but they have to hope that one of two things happens while they do this. Pac-12 has a Championship game right? New feature, like the Big 10 Championship last year? Either Stanford accrues two losses and is knocked out of the championship or SC gets revenge in LA in the Championship game. I'm rather hoping neither of those things happen. I hope that ND proves itself legit (we're still a LONG way from that) and runs the table on both Big 10 and Pac 12 opponents (beating both USC and Stanford). Note--I think the only way they beat USC is if the starting center is out for an extended period of time and the freshman doesn't progress. The ND secondary is vulnerable.

Re: NCAA Football thread

More weirdness. ND won last week against U of M, but it was very VERY ugly. Stanford followed up a defeat of USC by losing to Washington on the road. Oklahoma got upset by KSU. Not quite as much chaos in the college ranks as the NFL ranks, but wow did the MAC test the Big Ten.
