Re: Pottermore v.11

I'm excited that he's talking about tablets. I would love to be able to access Pottermore on my iPad, but there needs to be a free app in the app store for that.

Also loved what he said about enhanced ebooks and making the shop into a digital hub... And making Pottermore amazing.

I can hardly wait to see what's in store. I just hope socializing calms people down a bit. The House rivalries were friendly and fun in the Beta phase, but I've been seeing a lot more cut-throat, "by any means necessary" behavior since the Beta ended. And I don't mean by Slytherins.

Re: Pottermore v.11

Wonder when the Quidditch and the Wizard's Chess will be released for use...

http://www.pottermore.com/en/great-hall/5/3/3/3
and
http://www.pottermore.com/en/great-hall/5/3/5/5

If you change the third to last 3 to either a 1, 2, or 4 you can see it for your own house (I'm a rave so that's what I see. In the banner on house leaders, it will change to Most Friends, Most Points, Wizards Duel, Wizards Chess, or Quidditch if you change the very last "2/2" in the link to a "1/1" or "3/3" or "4/4" or "5/5"...

I know this was brought up a while ago, but for all the newies, it might be interesting... Any news on this?

Thanks!

Yeah, that's what I touched on in my earlier post and forgot to mention how to get to it.

You go to the Great Hall, go to Ravenclaw, go down to Most House Points, right click on the down arrow and select Open link in new tab. You get this URL: http://www.pottermore.com/en-us/great-hall/5/3/2/2

Change those 2's to 1's (http://www.pottermore.com/en-us/great-hall/5/3/1/1) and look again at the Ravenclaw Banner: it becomes Most Friends. 3's give you Quiddich, 4's give you Wizard's Duel, 5's give you Wizard's Chess, and 6's give you Chocolate Frogs.

No idea when any of this will be released.

I'm very curious as to what kind of social interaction we'll be getting. I can see Pottermore offering something similar to CoS, but with more info from JKR and less speculation. I think they'll try to write canon and be much more rigid. The forums which survive would be the ones offering creativity and individuality, I think.

If they start a forum they would definitely make things easier for their members and themselves, moderating wise threads are way easier to handle than the Great Hall/CR stream they use now. But they will have to expand their team and not sure how the big news sites with their forums react to it. Anyhoo will see

That's the thing. I've been on forums with lots of traffic, but Pottermore is so huge it would be chaos. Part of the appeal is people getting to know each other and forming cliques, and I think Pottermore would be too huge to handle that very deftly, even with 100 mods. Sure, it could be done, but it's hard to be heard with hundreds of people trying to talk at the same time.

I'm more curious about the social interaction and what the CEO is planning than I am JKR's Encyclopedia.

We've had thousands discussing at our peek, so it's doable. But it's probably not the goal of Pottermore, so I doubt that a lot of people will be interested in forum type of discussion. Most just want to chat. So in the end I don't think they will make a forum like this one. I rather think they will introduce some form of IM.

Thanks - that makes sense

I think IM is most likely the best format for Pottermore. I can see people wanting to jump online, chit chat, make comments and ask questions. But you're right - we'll have to see which direction the CEO decides to go.

This time next year, we may have a whole new Pottermore.

Re: Pottermore v.11

I can't sign in my Pottermore account. Forget my password, and when using "Forgotten your password?", it asks me to write my username, and then there's the next step to click on the blue button "Email me the link", which follows with another yellow message popping up saying "Please type the two words shown in the image," which unfortunately doesn't show at all in my Mozilla browser.

Tried it on Explorer and Chrome - same message pops up - but still no words shown in the image anywhere in the whole page of the site.

What do I do? Is there any chance for me to get access into my Pottermore account?

Just so you know, it's a beta period account.

The two words in the image are directly under the field where you enter your username.

I use Firefox as well and it shows up for me. Did you try clearing your cache and deleting your cookies?

Can you show it to me how it looks like with a prints creen view, perhaps I'm not seeing it?

Thanks.

Re: Pottermore v.11

Finally got my email and into Pottermore. Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'd like to ask which browser works best with Pottermore? I'm Windows 7 using IE. I'm stuck in Daigon Alley and cannot access the list to move on. Tried zooming in...double clicking everywhere...nothing works. I'm starting to think its my settings or my browser. Suggestions would be most helpful...thanks

Tenshi, thank you very much!

I managed to fix it through my lap top. Seems like the problem was with my PC, because it was showing only this:

I use Firefox myself, and I know others who prefer Chrome and IE.

Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

You want to zoom all the way in, and the shopping list is found in front of the white building, on the ground between the two witches.

Re: Pottermore v.11

No offense to those who have joined since PM was released to the general public, so please don't take it that way. I'm glad all those who want to can enjoy the experience...

but...

Any other beta testers kinda feel like we've been taken over? I had friends that I used to see each night and message, but now I haven't seen them in over a week. Not that I want to feel privileged as if I have something others don't, but I feel very insignificant now with over 2 million... I almost wish we had a "beta testers club" to go and visit each other and reminisce about the "good ole days..."

Well, you don't have a username with 5 numbers in it, so that's something?

Weren't there like, a million people on Pottermore during the beta testing period? I suppose that is more intimate than two million.

On the one hand, I am delighted that Pottermore is open to the public. It's our "hard work" in the Beta (or should I say, our massive level of frustration!!!) that has helped to get it there.

On the other hand, the influx has created some problems that I find annoying. For starters, a few Gryffindors have become really in-your-face with anti-Slytherin taunts. That didn't used to happen. A few Gryffindors even tried to encourage other Houses in the Great Hall not to duel Slytherins in order to choke us off from the possibility of even competing for the House Cup. I thought those comments simply dishonored Gryffindor's reputation for bravery and chivalry. That said, most of the Gryffindors are great.

Likewise, a few Slytherins have gotten carried away with DE roleplay in the Common Room - and trolling in the Great Hall. That didn't used to happen. Slytherin House has had to develop a zero tolerance policy towards trolling and towards "mublood" comments, and we use the report button at the first sight of that sort of nonsense. But it seems like we never used to get that sort of behavior during the Beta.

Even during the Beta, though, we did get anti-Slytherin spies sorted into Slytherin (or using a friend's or sibling's Slytherin account). The spies then tried to sabotage our efforts in the House Cup. This has gotten much worse since Pottermore opened. It's actually pretty amazing that we've been doing as well as we have, given the amount of sabotage we have endured.

I find it sad that with the public opening, Gryffindor's humongous size has simply overwhelmed Ravenclaw in the competition for the House Cup. I can probably wax nostalgic all day about the epic Beta battle between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. Your duelists were great, and it was always an honor to defeat a Ravenclaw. Your duelists are STILL superior to most of the Gryffindor duelists I encounter. (I know because I battle both Houses every day). It's just that there are so many Gryffindors that Ravenclaw just can't keep up.

That's not to say I don't encounter skilled Gryffindor duelists. I do. The top Gryffindors on the Leaderboard are quite skilled. And I have a lot of fun dueling Gryffindor, regardless of the skill level of individual Gryffindors. Most of the Gryffindors are great sports and very quick to become friends and dueling partners. There's a very fun vibe to dueling Gryffindor.

However, a LOT more Gryffindors go into battle without sufficient preparation and practice. Far fewer Ravenclaws do. And far more Gryffindors will continue to challenge for a new duel repeatedly - despite losing over and over and over again. Basically, Gryffindor lacks the House discipline and commitment to skill that Ravenclaw possesses - and I really miss the battle of skill between Slytherin and Ravenclaw.

There was never more than 680,000 or thereabouts. It felt much smaller and more intimate.

True - but the strategy is a sound one.

If you're dueling primarily to win the House Cup and you're a Snake or a Lion, you'll only duel the Eagles or Badgers. And if you're an Eagle or a Badger and, if you think you may not win but prefer the Snakes over the Lions, or the Lions over the Snakes, you'll only duel the house you want to see win, so if you lose the duel, that house will get the points.

However - if you're there to be challenged, you'll duel anyone, I think.

And I hate to say this, but it's true - I used to duel all the houses, and the Gryffs are the ones most likely to challenge me with some other spell than Full Body-Bind, and when I score higher points, not only do they re-match me, they'll challenge me again. And again. I'm over 50,000 points now. Not all Gryffs are this way of course. But I decided to go with House Cup strategy between the two houses and not just personal gain, and I've stopped dueling them, unless a I get a duel request.

ETA

Not to say i don't duel Badgers- I do. I send them 2 duel requests, wait until one responds, and send 2 more to that house. I wish I received more responses from them.
