No, I don't think they would've done that. I think that they may consider the answers you gave on the wand quiz.

I know quite a few people who didn't expect what house they got. One person thought that they were Slytherin, but got Hufflepuff.

All in all, I think Pottermore did a good job.

Re: Your Pottermore House

• What Pottermore house are you in?

Slytherin.

• Is this the house you identified with before Pottermore?

Indeed.

• Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting? (Please talk about these only in a general way and avoid posting exact questions and answers; see post by SusanBones below.)

To some degree. A few of the questions were unfathomable.

• Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?

Both. Two predictable Ravenclaws stayed Ravenclaw. Someone I considered Slytherin ended up Gryffindor (if I find out he was spying...)

• Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses?

Not in the least. I find it interesting how quickly they change their minds about what house they thought they belonged to and end up embracing their house ideals. Rather scary, actually.

Re: Your Pottermore House

What Pottermore house are you in?

Slytherin

• Is this the house you identified with before Pottermore?

I never identified myself with the house before being sorted into it on here twice, and then on Pottermore this week.

• If not, are you still happy with the house? Do you think the Sorting Hat made a mistake or do you think this gives you some new insights into your personality?

I'm happy with it. I've never really had the negative image of Slytherin that is sometimes projected. And who wouldn't want to be in a house that assumes there's something of greatness about you, simply by virtue of the hat having sorted you there?

• Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting?

Some of them did. I chose to answer truthfully. There were a few that sounded like Slytherin answers to me.

• Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?

Some of them were predictable to me, sometimes surprising to them. I think the wands are more interesting than the house sortings.

• Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses??

Not really. I still think there is room for individual variation within all of the houses. I think everybody is a mixture of traits that are prevalent in each house. The house you are sorted into probably just indicates that some traits are more prominent in you than others.

Slytherin

I've been told I have traits of both Slytherin and Ravenclaw, but I'm extremely happy to have been put into Slytherin. It made my day, honestly.

• If not, are you still happy with the house? Do you think the Sorting Hat made a mistake or do you think this gives you some new insights into your personality?
I don't think the Hat made a mistake. I think it really showed me that I have a lot more ambition than I thought I did, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

• Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting?
There were several questions I had no idea about, so I went with my first instinct on those. This was an excellent Sorting; the questions weren't at all obvious.

• Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?
I don't really know a whole lot of people on here, but I'm getting around to meeting them.

• Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses??
Not at all.

I was sorted as a Slytherin. Here in COS a Gryffindor. I was a bit surprised, but I will defend my Slytherin status on Pottermore. Maybe I have a horcrux attached to me...hmmm!

Re: Your Pottermore House

• What Pottermore house are you in?

Gryffindor

• Is this the house you identified with before Pottermore?

Nope, always thought I was a hufflepuff, as did other people.

• If not, are you still happy with the house? Do you think the Sorting Hat made a mistake or do you think this gives you some new insights into your personality?

I think they made a mistake, even know very recently i've actually had some realization about my goals, they don't correspond to Gryffindor at all.

• Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting? (Please talk about these only in a general way and avoid posting exact questions and answers; see post by SusanBones below.)

I have no idea, I couldn't really tell to be honest.

• Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?

My sister got Ravenclaw, I guess it's understandable from the answers she chose because she chose the answers to seek knowledge.

• Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses?

Nope

EDIT: Ok so I just took a quiz outside the pottermore website and it put me into gryffindor? I answered completely honestly. Maybe i've been a Gryffindor all this time? Hmm. And the strange thing is the quiz said I was least like Hufflepuff! Perhaps my personallity has changed haha. I feel a lot better about being in gryffindor now.

EDIT 2: Alright i've took a few more quizzes and i've been put in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and almost Slytherin! I really can't define myself haha. I like to look forward and achieve things, like a gryffindor, I tend to be friendly and get on well with people, like a hufflepuff, I can be witty and show some knowledge like a Ravenclaw, and i don't even know about Slytherin xD I guess i'll never know my true house

Re: Your Pottermore House

Okay I originally posted here back when I got sorted ages ago since I got sorted way back in August but at the time pretty much almost no one I knew had a Beta account so now I feel I can better answer the following questions. (And I'm a Hufflepuff by the way).

• Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?

To me it seems like they got placed where they are best suited and where I expected more or less that they would be placed.

I have one friend where by I expected Slytherin for him but he got Ravenclaw and I can see that in him too. Gryffindor or Hufflepuff would have surprised me for him though.

My boyfriend got Slytherin and that wasn't surprising to me, although I wasn't sure he would end up in that house but I can totally see why when I think more into it. If he wasn't ambitious I don't know if our relationship would even work! I mean it pretty much works because he's ambitious enough to work hard and go for his goals and honestly if he wasn't so ambitious he'd probably go for a girl closer to where he lives. That would be easier but no, he chose me. Then with me I'm patient enough like a Hufflepuff that I can wait for him when he's not around due to the distance and patient enough that I don't feel he has to talk to me all the time while he goes for his goals.

Funny how a lot of people think Slytherin x Hufflepuff relationships are laughable/would never work out....to a lot of people it seems like the strangest pairing out of all the houses....but you know, just think about it for a minute. XD I think his secondary house was very much most likely Ravenclaw.

My sister got Ravenclaw which doesn't surprise me one bit. She has always come across as a Ravenclaw in my opinion. I forever always thought she was one....with the potential of possibly being a Hufflepuff like me since I think that was her secondary house.

• Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses?

Nope.

I will say though that considering I know about 15 or so people who are now sorted on Pottermore, I'm surprised that I apparently don't know a single Gryffindor. You'd think there would at least be one. I have people in Gryffindor in my friends list on Pottermore but they're all people I don't know since I accept all friend requests there. Everyone I actually know is in one of the other 3 houses for some reason. I'm not surprised by where anyone I know got sorted, the houses they got were relatively expected....but it does surprise me that I don't know a single Gryffindor. There is still a chance that I know at least one though since not everyone I know is actually on the site at this time.

Re: Your Pottermore House

1. What Pottermore house are you in?

I was sorted into Gryffindor

2. Isthis the house you identified with before Pottermore?

No!!!!, I thought for sure I’d be in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff

3. If not, are you still happy with the house? Do you think the Sorting Hat made a mistake or do you think this gives you some new insights into your personality?

Yes, because I answered honestly. And the fact that the website of the person who wrote the books, made up the universe, and the rules governing it, to me means I would be a Gryffindor if I really lived in it. As opposed to what “I think” or “believe”.

It does give me more insight into my personality, but it also makes me think of the Gryffindors in the series a bit differently.

4. Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting? (Please talk about these only in a general way and avoid posting exact questions and answers; see post by SusanBones below.)

I kept a copy of the questions and the answers I gave. I thought they were mainly Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff answers. There was only one question where I basically picked between a close tie of answers. The rest of the questions had definitive answers that I would never change.

So the majority of answers must be Gryffindor.

5. Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?

Yes, there were some surprises but most got one of their top two predictions

6. Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses?

No, not really. I’ve always respected each of the houses, and the traits they represent. I think each is important.

I also think some people are taking their placement too seriously. This isn’t really life, or a real world. It runs with different rules and sensibilities. So, for me at least this is definite. If I lived in Harry Potter’s Universe I’d be a Gryffindor. I had decided to answer truthfully and abide by the results no matter what before I took the quiz.

Still, it’s going to take me some time to get used to being a Gryffindor !!!!

Re: Your Pottermore House

I had two choices for my house: Slytherin or Hufflepuff. I chose Hufflepuff. Someone mentioned on Pottermore thread that I had a Hatstall, but, I don't fit Slytherin at all. I am always a "helper-type" person. I am also average, not great or anything. To me, a lot people who end up in the three largest houses, Griffyndor, Slytherin and Ravenclaw are really special and I am not.
I don't know anyone else who has sorted into the different houses. None of my family or friends are into Pottermore. They accepted the HP books and movies, but that's it.

Re: Your Pottermore House

• What Pottermore house are you in?

Ravenclaw

• Is this the house you identified with before Pottermore?

Yes.

• If not, are you still happy with the house? Do you think the Sorting Hat made a mistake or do you think this gives you some new insights into your personality?

Happy with the house. Sorting hat didn't make a mistake. Unfortunately I don't have any new insights into my personality. I'm pretty much who I thought I was in terms of the test.

• Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting?

I think so, yes. After I read each question I paused and imagined myself in that particular situation and thought carefully about how I should proceed, considered the possible outcomes of all the answers, and picked one I thought I could live with.

• Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?

Hm. I don't really have anyone in my immediate surroundings interested in Pottermore so I can't say. There have been strongly identified people in this forum who've been surprisingly sorted. Slytherin-identified people who landed in Hufflepuff, for example.

• Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses?

My good opinion of Ravenclaw house has only been amplified since I got in.

I think that most people can see aspects of each of the four houses reflected in themselves. Belonging to a particular house simply focuses your attention on a particular part of your personality.

I personally think that Hufflepuff House is the most Zen, focusing on the here and now, being content with what they have, etc. I know that Ravenclaws are the cleverest and the quirkiest, but I think that Hufflepuffs are the wisest. I think that it would have been really beneficial for me to have been sorted into Hufflepuff for that reason. Instead, I was sorted into Slytherin, thereby focusing my attention even more on my eternal need to achieve bigger, better and greater things...

Hard to answer without giving specifics - but yes, absolutely. My answers during the wand sorting quiz were also extremely Slytherin (imo). Even my username has a distinct Slytherin sound to it....

Quote:

Yes - I was 100% convinced that bf would be sorted into Ravenclaw, and he was. I wasn't sure about my mum - I thought she would get either Slytherin or Hufflepuff. She got a hat stall and was given the option to choose between Slytherin and Hufflepuff. (She choose Hufflepuff).

Re: Your Pottermore House

I was sorted into Ravenclaw, and my first reaction - unexpectedly - was a slight disappointment. Despite the fact that all my answers were Ravenclaw-ish and I'm a natural Ravenclaw, I hadn't realised how much I had identified with Slytherin.

This is the problem with the Pottermore hat not taking choice into account! So I marched over here to COS in hopes of at least becoming a Slytherclaw...

I also noted that I had the immediate impulse to rebel against being categorised. Why not Slytherin? I'm ambitious! Hufflepuff? I'm hardworking, loyal, and actually nice. I'm not really much of a Gryffindor, but if Hermione can be one, I could be too! Where do you sort people who always want to perfect those traits that other people say they don't have? People become the roles they play, and a big part of me hates that. Maybe it's always too soon to Sort. ; )

After several days on Pottermore, I became happier with my Ravenclaw lot. Too many small-minded Slytherins flaming about Mudbloods. I also gained a lot of respect for the patient Hufflepuffs hanging in there despite all the denigration. It is an interesting experiment...

It's a tiny percentage (well less than 1%). At least we've been able to put a stop to those sorts of flames in the Common Room! I hope you can look past the occasional random DE wannabe. Seriously, those people are not at all representative of Slytherin House on Pottermore. The other 99+% of us are just busy brewing and dueling.

Good to know. As an apparent Slytherclaw (Ravenclaw on Pottermore, Slytherin on COS), it is nice to know that there are many others who see Slytherin as a... more subtle... house, and not simply an excuse for acting like a DE.

The moment-by-moment comment stream without showing a person's personal comment history or character details seems to encourage the unfortunate rah-rahing. Ultimately, that is why I came to COS for some more nuanced info about Pottermore goings-on.

Re: Your Pottermore House

What Pottermore house are you in?
Slytherin

Is this the house you identified with before Pottermore?
Oh yes, though I did identify with Ravenclaw when I first started reading the series.

If not, are you still happy with the house? Do you think the Sorting Hat made a mistake or do you think this gives you some new insights into your personality?

I am completely content with my results.

Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting?
Most of them. Some tilts to Ravenclaw more. I answered honestly on the quiz since I was curious about what my results would be.

Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?
No one I know in real life is on Pottermore, so I can't answer that.

Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses?

Refer to my answer for #5.

Yes, we are definitely a more subtle House.

It seems a few people go into a DE wannabe roleplay, and a few others are just trolls. The rest of us appreciate Muggleborns, work hard at potions and dueling, and do not wish to antagonize the other Houses.

Today, a large number of Slytherins took the lead in trying to put a stop to our trolls who were making life miserable for everybody in the Great Hall. By the end of the day, we had the respect of the other Houses, who realized that the "mudblood" flames were not a Slytherin thing. They were a troll thing.

At any rate, if you see a Slytherin creating a hostile environment in Pottermore, we encourage use of the report button. We don't like Slytherin trolls any more than anybody else does. And we do report them... repeatedly if necessary.

Anyway, yes, there's much more freedom on CoS for serious discussion. Glad you're here!

Re: Your Pottermore House

What Pottermore house are you in?

Slytherin.

Is this the house you identified with before Pottermore?

Yes.

Does your house placement make sense to you based on the way you answered questions during your sorting?

I'm not sure, I think concerning most of the questions it was really hard to tell which answer belongs to which house (or am I just to stupid to see through things like that? xD).
Well, of course there were questions where I suspected "if I pick this, this will add to my Slytherin-related-answers" or something like that, but most of the time I didn't really pay attention to that kind of stuff; I wanted to answer the questions as honest as possible to get an honest result.

Have other people you know been sorted into predictable or surprising houses?

I can only tell you about one person, my girlfriend.
I was sure she would be sorted into Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, but in the end she became a Slytherin!
Although she had a hatstall between Hufflepuff and Slytherin, so I was half-right.
I didn't expect her to chose Slytherin, though.

Have people (either you or your friends) getting sorted into certain houses changed your opinions of those houses?

No, not really - well, as I told you, it's only my girlfriend and myself, so...well xD
