I honestly don't know if that's an upset. Phil is bizarrely popular. If it's an upset at all, it's probably that Holly lasted this long (although she's had her two best weeks as those around her have begun to stumble).

I feel like American Idol is a show that looks for pop stars, whether it's in hiphop, R&B, country, rock or pop-rock, they're looking for someone they can shine up and show to a group of teenagers who will fall over themselves buying tickets to their shows, records, merchandise etc. That's their hope, anyway, in reality it's more like my grandma who's falling over herself to buy the tickets. Phillip seems like an adult-contemporary singer to me, a kind of Eric Clapton meets AI's Casey James, great on a guitar but not the best singer in the world. Actually, Eric Clapton and Casey James both far outshine Phillip in the singing department and Casey was actually a pretty good singer.

I agree a bit that the upset is almost that Holly is still here but at the same time I feel like she's finally finding her rhythm, making good song choices, getting more confortable on stage and, as Randy said, peaking at the right time. I've enjoyed Holly the last two weeks. I stopped really enjoying Phillip about a month ago.

And Holly's gone. Yes, she had been really finding her stride. I never enjoyed Phil and while I'll allow that Josh is vocally gifted, he's being encouraged to simply scream and shriek way too much. I feel like Jessica's being pushed in that direction as well.
