Needful Things (1993) - 4/10 - not that scary, rather predictable.

Tron (original) -- 8/10

Rented this and its sequel from the library. Hadn't watched the original, but I've seen Tron: Legacy before. The CGI is amazing for its time, and it is a pretty good story-line. I liked the action and the characters were great, especially Flynn and Ram. Definitely a masterpiece for its time.

Tron: Legacy (rewatch) -- 9/10:

Still a very fun movie to watch, even on my laptop. I originally saw it in cinema, and it was breathtaking and blew me away. Still love the disc and cycle battle sequences. Sam and Quorra are great new characters. Loved the connections to the original Tron, and how they kept the same location for "Flynn's" after so long. Perfect continuity.

The Rite -- 9/10 I'm a big fan of scary movies, and this one made me squirm. I've had several people tell me they didn't feel it was factually accurate, but I found the storyline to be engaging. Religious views aside, I found this to be a great movie that scared me...that's the best part.

Adjustment Bureau: 8.7/10

Before I saw this movie, I was not a big fan of Matt Damon. The only other movie I liked him in was The Brothers Grimm. But I have a new favorite Matt Damon movie, and it is the The Adjustment Bureau. Excellent acting, great storyline... wish there was more action in it, but it had some. Good characters, and the romance between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt's characters were great... don't see too many Romantic Thrillers, and this was a good one!

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1: 9.5/10

So I just got around to seeing this movie yesterday. The movies step up throughout the series, and this was no different. It really brought the first half of the book to life, and in an excellent way. Even the added importance of the Quiliuetes was great... loved the battle at the end.

It brought characters that I don't really like and actually loved them: Kalua (think that is her name, the South American woman during the honeymoon) was actually really good... hated her in the book, and she was great in the movie.) Jacob... I really didn't like him in the first three books/movies, and then I liked him in Breaking Dawn book... exactly what happened with the movie too... Jacob was great for me this go-around.

The imprinting scene at the end with Jacob and Renesemee... excellent way of showing it... showing how she'd look in the future, and Jacob's voice talking about imprinting. They handled it beautifully. As was Bella's transformation at the end... also handled beautifully, and really made you want more.

I loved the prequel to this, Eclipse... I REALLY loved this movie. Well done, Bill Condon. You have a new fan.

Really? Have you seen Good Will Hunting and the Bourne films?

Speaking of Damon, I recently saw We Bought A Zoo. Nothing special, but an interesting enough movie. Damon and ScarJo were good.

Men in Black 3 -- Very enjoyable film, 8/10.

Best Exotic Marigold Hotel -- really liked it; great believable performances by veteran British actors. Might be more relatable to a 50+ audience, but again, very well done, and realistic depictions of India. 8/10.

Prometheus. 9.5/10.

Darkly majesterial, epic sci-fi. Sir Ridley Scott takes the franchise he created BACK, baby!

It's not perfect. I have a couple of minor quibbles. But it's a heck of an epic ride, and Alien devotees will recognise some wickedly queasy tropes deployed in the film.

And Michael Fassbender is faaaaaaabulous! . . One sexy android.

The film is gorgeous in 3D.

Prometheus doesn't open in the US until next weekend. But this is the best news I've seen all summer! I can hardly wait!!!

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
I think the entire cast did a splendid job with their characters, particularly Gary Oldman & Colin Firth. 9/10

Yes! I enjoyed it very much too. In addition to the acting, I think it was also beautifully shot to incorporate the times and zeitgeist in a very elegant, non-intrusive yet effective way.

Meh... Not to rain on anyone's parade but this movie was a disappointment to me (saw it yesterday). I'll give it a 6/10 for special effects but not much else. I think Alien was much better actually since the story in this one comes across as rather unoriginal and not very engaging. I was expecting it to at least be scary or thrilling and I got that for about 15 minutes at the end but the rest was just... Slimy aliens, what else is new? The actors were good though and some characters were interesting but they could have done so much more with the movie.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Big disappointment.

I have to blame the directing and the script before I can blame the acting. Sometimes an actor can rescue a half-decent script...not the case here. We had the acting talents, but they didn't have anything to work with. (Theron came close, and as she was given the most time and backstory) If there had been a good script about the queen, and with Theron's ability and charisma...meh, wishful thinking on my part.

...and Sam Claflin versus Thor...? Really?

Yes. I loved it too (rated it awhile back ). Great acting, great scripting, and as Yoana mentions, the cinematography and set design really capture the period.

BTW, I was even more impressed on second viewing.

Hunger Games: very good, amazing actors. Left out some parts though that will make a major part in the other movies not make very much sense unless you have read the books first.

Snow White and the Huntsman--6/10

Was hoping for better acting from both female leads actually, but it was a beautiful movie to look at and Chris Hemsworth...mmmm.

Re: Rate / Review the Last Film you've seen v.3

Snow White and the Huntsman --- 6/10

It would have dropped to a 3/10 without Charlize for me. The story wasn't re-imagined very well, many of the characters were useless, the acting was pretty bad except for Charlize who did the best job... the 3/10 points go 1 to costumes, 1 to FXs, 1 to cinematophraphy, the additional 3 points are for Charlize, the Queen's re-imagining and her makeup, hair, costuming and performance.

Don't waste your money on this movie unless you really want to see the costumes, FXs or fully understand that the movie is a snooze-fest every time you leave the queen and follow Snow White's story.

Alien (1979) - I'm not the biggest fan of films with people playing hide and seek with a monster and dropping dead until only one remains, so I don't feel qualified to rate this. It was ok.

Snow White and the Huntsman-6/10 for me also.

I thought it had good SFX and beautiful costumes. I enjoyed Charlize Theron's role as the queen. Bob Hoskins even though his part was smaller was also good.

Problems for me was in Kristen Stewart's portrayal of Snow White. Her acting is still flat to me. I do think she has improved a lot though. I also felt the pacing was off. A lot of rushing, especially in the start of the movie.

Men In Black 3 - 7/10 - I really enjoyed it. I was slightly annoyed by the lack of continuity though.

This film was so ground-breaking when it came out in 1979. Not least for Sigourney Weaver's definitive role. It's still rare for a film to have an intelligent, strong heroine at the helm.

It doesn't scare me like it used to, but it's still unnerving and subversive, especially all that incredibly disturbing Giger imagery. I still think it's the sci-fi horror to rule them all. It's brilliant. I watched it again myself over the weekend and once more it gets a resounding 10/10.

Jerry Goldsmith's score is so eerie.
