Didn't the Grangers have a drink and or meal with the Weasley's in the Cauldron?

They were described as being present in Diagon in CoS; Lucius makes reference to the company Arthur keeps. I think that's when it was.

Because he wasn't mentioned in the books except for Hallows?

To be able to show Harry's fears that he didn't know Dumbledore as well as he thought he did and plant the seeds of distrust, IMO.

He wasn't mentioned in OotP already, but we didn't know who he really was until DH.

And we see him in that movie too and, like the book, his name is not given. He also appears, nameless, at Albus's funeral.

Thanks guys, i was wondering about that. xD

Was there ever a reason that Draco and his family ran away before the lord's death?

Because there was nothing in it for them to stay. By that time, they had become disenchanted with Voldemort and his ideals, and had been thoroughly humbled by how close their family had come to being torn apart. They did not want to be involved any more.

But I feel the bottom line is they were looking out for themselves, and they didn't have a reason to fight anymore as soon as it became apparent that Voldemort wasn't going to win.

And they were all wandless at that point as well, I believe, so what could they really do? Interesting, isn't it? The most highly touted pure blood family in the series is powerless at the end.

Isn't that a trait of Slytherins? Self-perservation? They would rather save themselves than put themselves in danger.

They don't needlessly put themselves in danger (so that's open to interpretation.) They like to think thinks through and strategize before running up to the front line. Snape was the bravest man Harry knew and repeatedly endangered himself to save others. All houses have their brave and all have their cowards.

I'm not sure without checking DH, but I don't believe the Malfoys ran away in the book, IIRC they were sitting off somewhere in the background. You're probably thinking of the movie, which should be discussed in Muggle Studies.

-eta-
Yes. after Harry killed Voldemort: "he spotted the three Malfoys, huddled together as though unsure whether or not they were supposed to be there, but nobody was paying them any attention." (pgs. 745-746, DH Scholastic trade ppbk)

Actually the first time Aberforth is mentioned is in GoF, chapter 24. That was where we learned about a connection with goats which later lead us to suspect that he might be the barman in the Hog's Head when Harry thought that the place smelled of goats.

But his lack of a role in the films is not for this thread to discuss.

You're correct. In the books they stay; Narcissa & Lucius searched for Draco and then probably kept out of sight until it was over and Harry spots them in the Great Hall.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff...

Quite true. Considering that the Malfoys didn't have a wand between them, they wouldn't have been much use in the battle anyway. They might also have been in considerable danger being unable to defend themselves so their chasing round looking for Draco is quite brave and shows their strong sense of family IMO.

When did Narcissa loose her wand?

Draco borrowed his mother's wand and in the Room of Requirement:
DH: The Battle of HogwartsHarry saw Hermione dive aside, and his fury that Crabbe had aimed to kill wiped all else from his mind. He shot a Stunning Spell at Crabbe, who lurched out of the way, knocking Malfoy’s wand out of his hand; it rolled out of sight beneath a mountain of broken furniture and boxes.
He is never able to retrieve it.

Re: Little Questions Answered v.20

A friend of mine has reading the series over again. he sent me this question.

Where are Ministry owls held? London? If so, how did the barn owl get to the Dursley's so quickly after Dobby uses magic? Surrey is about 52 minutes from London by car. An owl is not going to travel approximately 30 miles in a matter of seconds or even a few minutes. Is it because the owls have magic on their side?

Re: Little Questions Answered v.20

The owls can probably fly much faster than the normal ones. They may even be able to apparate for emergency cases.
