Re: Your current read v6

Just finished Mockingjay, the last of the Hunger Games trilogy. Hated it. Should have just stopped reading after The Hunger Games but I had to see where it all went. Incredibly disappointed by the characters, the story, the writing style, just everything.

But I liked the series way more than Twilight so that's something.

The Bay at Midnight by Diane Chamberlian. I was lent one of her books by a friend and loved it, so picked this one up in the sales at the start of the year with a gift card I got for Christmas and have only just got around to reading it. Really enjoying it so far!

I'm reading Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett, which I thought I hadn't read before, but apparently I have. Or else Pratchett must have stolen the plot from one of my dreams.

I'm reading The Hunger Games (just started - am on the third chapter). She writes well.

I'm also reading History of the Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth. It's one of the earliest works on King Arthur and Merlin. It reads well and is very entertaining. I downloaded this particular translation (from Latin) off the Web. No copyright issues on early 12th century works.

Insurgent by Veronica Roth. Had this on hold at the library before they'd even got copies in to make sure I could get it asap

Variant by Robison Wells

A YA novel about a foster kid who gets a scholarship to a private school in New Mexico and then discovers it's no ordinary school. I'm very close to finishing it and it's pretty good!

I have definitely read it before. But, because I didn't remember much of it (and because it's a Discworld book, by Terry Pratchett!!), it was a very enjoyable read anyway. Except for the part about the skulls and stuff. I don't like skeletons.

I'm continuing with another Discworld book from my to-read shelf, because I need something light right now, so the other books I'm currently reading on will have to wait. This time I'll read Reaper Man. I wonder if I've read that before as well. I guess I'll find out when I start it.

I Am Not A Serial Kill by Dan Wells

John works in his family's mortuary and has an obsession with serial killers. He wants to be a good person but fears he is a sociopath, and for years he has suppressed his dark side through a strict system of rules designed to mimic "normal" behavior. Then a demon begins stalking his small town and killing people one by one, and John is forced to give in to his darker nature in order to save them.

As he struggles to understand the demon and find a way to kill it, his own mind begins to unravel until he fears he may never regain control. Faced with the reality that he is, perhaps, more monstrous than the monster he is fighting, John must make a final stand against the horrors of both the demon and himself.

Couldn't wait for my new library card to come in the mail so I downloaded it from Audible.com - I'm starting it tomorrow! EEP!

Surface Detail by Iain M Banks.
I'm more of a Fantasy genre kind of girl, but I decided to give my first Science-Fiction a try and it's well worth it. It's bizarre, but a brilliant kind of bizarre.

Re: Your current read v6

The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel - Interesting so far, much better than the movie so far, too.

The Orion Mystery by Robert Bauval - non-fiction about the Eyptian Pyramids and what they were really for

James Potter and the Curse of the Gatekeeper - G. Norman Lippert - have been reading this on and off for a while, I'm having a hard time with it which I'm disappointed by. At least it was free.

The Phantom of the Temple: A Judge Dee Mystery - Robert van Gulik. I love Judge Dee. He's so righteous and upstanding and always scolding people for their bad habits! It's such a delight to read.
