Cox, come stai? Difficile da credere che questo thread esiste ancora... dopo 5 anni. Come va?

Pottercomics! Pensavo fossi sparito completamente!

But I believe this has a lot to do with the fact that I'm almost teetotal - well, Bailey's and liquorice liquor not withstanding.
But yeah, I go to the center of Padova once every fortnight, more or less. Mostly for shopping reasons.

Wow, yet another coincidence! What are you going to study here? As far as I know the only faculty of the University of Padova that offers classes in English is Engineering (Environmental Engineering at a MS level, if I recall correctly)... But maybe they have expanded their offer (I hope so!)?

The main problem we have here in Veneto is humidity, which makes heat ten times worse. But yeah, in May and June it's not that bad!

Sottomarina is probably the nearest to Padova (you get there in less than a hour by car), but I don't really like it (per non parlare del fatto che qui da noi è diventata praticamente un 'inside joke' ). Jesolo is a bit further away but surely worthier, and has a richer night life. Another lovely resort is Rosolina Mare (Rovigo), albeit a bit 'too quiet', if you get what I mean. Oh, and there's also Bibione.

That's so nice of you! Here's hoping that after seeing the efforts you're making to learn their language (especially considering that Italian and Finnish have almost nothing in common), they'll reciprocate by giving Finnish a go.

Re: So you want to speak Italian? (Così vuoi parlare italiano?)

Hi everybody. Long time no see. it's been a while since the last time I posted here!
Are we supposed to speak English or Italian in this topic? i didn't get it, to be honest.

Anyway, let me introduce myself. I'm Annamaria and I'm from Naples (southern Italy). I have a degree in Foreign Languages, English and French and I'm here to dust off my English which was kinda put aside lately after my six-month journey in France. So I really need to make up :S

What about you? If you need any help in Italian, feel free to ask.

P.S. Since I'm here to learn and improve, correct me anytime you spot a mistake, any mistake, no matter what kind, even if the sentence sounds "strange" to you or too "italianized", tell me everything

Sicuro, anch'io sono padovana! Di dove sei? Padova Padova, o Padova provincia?

I wonder why names end up getting translated as well. I've seen this happen in other places and it makes no sense to me.

I did a two month study abroad in Itally in 2007 and sadly have forgotten most of my Italian. It was pretty rudimentary, anyway. My roommates and I would go to the shops to buy food and we accidentally left our translation sheet at one of the shops (apple:mela, breadane, etc) and they gave it back to us the next time we were in since we were the only Americans in town (I was in Macerata)

My favorite word is Italian, though: quindici It's just so fun to say! (I actually love all the numbers with 5 in them)

Yes it’s not bad. Fortunately not all the names have changed, otherwise some other characters would become:
Harry Potter = Enrico (or Arrigo) Vasaio
Sirius Black = Sirio Nero
Remus Lupin = Remo Lupino or Lupesco or Lupo or I don’t know what…
Draco Malfoy = Drago Malefico or Malafede

But since Mad-Eye isn't an actual proper name (Like Harry or Remus or Draco or Sirius, etc.) it would lose its humor to the reader if it wasn't translated.

Re: So you want to speak Italian? (Così vuoi parlare italiano?)

Ciao a tutti.

So I've been trying to learn Italian for the past, 6 years, sort of like a hobbie. But so far, I can understand some stuff here and there, I can carry a VERY basic conversation.

I would like to know, if there's a particular software or online site anybody recommends to improve my Italian?

My main problem with Italian is the prepositions and the use of "c'e"!
Also, I'm a native speaker in Spanish, so I tend to believe that because Italian "sounds" like Spanish, it IS like Spanish, BUT IS NOT!

I guess being bilingual in English and Spanish, has is disadvantages when trying to learn a third language.

Any suggestions?

Re: So you want to speak Italian? (Così vuoi parlare italiano?)

Ciao!
I'm not Italian, but I live in a part of my country where we speak Italian. In my family we speak Italian and French, but a little Spanish too, because my siblings' father comes from Chile (in reality, they are my half siblings and I just know a few words in Spanish. The rest of my family speak it very well).
quique07, I can tell you that being bilingual is difficult for me too, because when I tried to learn Spanish some words were very similar to the Italian form, and sometimes they were identical. This year at school we began the English class, but I immediately thought that is was easier than Spanish, perhaps because I already knew the bases of that language, but probably because it's really different than Italian or French.
If you really want to learn Italian, well, it's a challenge, but with patience you will have very good results. So..
Buona fortuna!

Re: So you want to speak Italian? (Così vuoi parlare italiano?)

Gazie Phiden!
