Re: The Walking Dead

Why would anyone keep armless walkers on chains? That was bizarre. I thought Rick was good in this episode making him seem morally ambiguous. Good end. Glad Shane is dead and some of the extras.

She does it to blend in. She cut their arms and jaws off so there is no chance of her getting bit or scratched.

Blend in? Does it work? It still seems like they could scratch her with their teeth or something. Wouldn't they still try? It was so bizarre.

She wears a hood in the book. Very much the way her character was introduced on the show. They have no teeth. She completely cut off their jaws, taking the teeth with it.

So she keeps the walkers close to her on the leash.

It is pretty bizarre - even in the comic. It works, but it shouldn't work so you're just left wondering why these two walkers are so different from every other walker. Walkers just keep trying to attack/eat people regardless of what kind of damage they have to their bodies. Cut off the head and the head still bites and snaps at you. Cut off the arms, they keep coming toward you. Cut off the legs, they drag themselves toward you. Michonne dragging two chained up walkers along behind her should actually draw more attention to her because of them constantly trying to attack her. I never understood why they didn't. Hopefully, the show will come up with a more plausible explanation for this.

I think Kirkman's "inner comic book nerd" got the better of him when he came up with the character of Michonne.

Yeah, it seems like they would still try to attack even if they couldn't do any damage. But I guess I get the blending in idea. It's sort of like when Glenn and Rick put guts all over themselves to blend in.

Re: The Walking Dead

Yeah. That was what i was thinking. The walkers would still go after her even if they couldn't harm her. Like run at her and flail and try and eat her even if all they could do was rub their faces on her. I am just not sure if it makes sense. It's fine though.

Re: The Walking Dead

I watched the marathon of both seasons this past weekend, leading up to the episode of The Talking Dead with a preview of season three, and, although it's kind of a rough show to binge on like that, because of its sheer and ever-escalating grimness, my appreciation for the show has skyrocketed. I actually wasn't watching during the second season - I didn't make the choice not to, I just lost track of it - but I appreciated the first much more this time around than I did initially, and the second was a huge improvement. If it's not a great show yet, it's a really, really good one. Can't wait for the third season in October.

Re: The Walking Dead

It piqued my curiosity, but (A) it wasn't much of a preview, and (B) it was more a little taste for the fans, meaning the fans of the comic book. They had executive producers Gale Ann Hurd and Glen Mazzara on, and comic book creator Robert Kirkman a little later, and none of them really answered any questions; as you might expect, it was pretty much all, "You'll have to watch and find out." They played a clip of Michonne taking out a zombie, there was a bit of talk about The Governor, there was a tour of some of the prison set, but none of those things meant that much to me yet because I'm not familiar with the comics. They also had some poll questions and answers, like, 'Who would you want on your side in a zombie apocalypse?' (Rick, Shane, or Daryl...Daryl was pretty much unanimous, and I'd probably go with him too.) So yeah, it was a pretty fun show, and it made me more curious.

Yeah, I havent read the comics, either, so I have no idea what people are talking about with all that. I've gleaned things through time spent online, but maybe I should stop doing that. I think I might like it better to just be wholly surprised by the show.

I would totally pick Daryl in the zombie apocalypse, too!

Re: The Walking Dead

Count me in for Team Daryl too. He does strike me as the ultimate survivor - not just in keeping himself alive, but others as well. He's become a great asset to Rick's group.

I enjoyed the preview overall - though I'm still not entirely sure how well the character of Michonne will work in the TV show. She's very exaggerated in the comics - which works pretty well for a comic, but I think they will need to tone things down for the show. They have already deviated from the comic a great deal so I don't think the comic itself is much of a spoiler at this point - the setting and the basic storyline will be there, but with the changes they've already made from the comic, they will have to continue to deviate to make it work.

I can't wait for Friday. There's supposed to be a 4 minute trailer for season 3 so we should get a better idea of what to expect from that.

Re: The Walking Dead

The trailer does look good. I'm a bit off The Walking Dead lately. I just feel kind of meh about it. I guess absence did not make the heart grow fonder. But that trailer does look really good. Maybe next season will be better than the last.

Oh, wow! Thanks for the trailer! My TWD buddy and I are going through and watching everything from the beginning. I think it might be better the second time around!

Re: The Walking Dead

I know, dead thread (pardon the pun), but the premier for s3 is today is it not?. I don't have cable so have to wait for netflix. So I just wanted to give my thoughts on what I've watched so far. I think the casting for the show was overall really good. I think the character of Laurie is very, very polarizing. I don't particularly like her but I understand and empathize with her thought processes. Daryl is a favorite but I also really like Rick. I also prefer Maggie over both Laurie and Andrea. Not sad at all to see Shane go. He was never quite villain enough for me but I also didn't get the feeling that he was conflicted about his choices either. The actor did well with what he was given, though. I also liked Rick's new attitude at the end of last season. Up until then everyone kind of used him (Hershel, Carol, and Laurie in particular) it was nice to see him finally put a stop to their whining and questioning of his decisions.

As to the zombies themselves I was at times repulsed and at other times oddly detached. Sometimes they were a dire threat and other times they seemed no more threatening than a wild animal. At the end when the group finds out that they are all carriers it made me wonder if the only criteria to becoming a zombie was that you somehow died. If that is the case, though, then why does a zombie bite kill you? Hmmm...

Yes! The premiere is tonight! I have Dish and so have to get my fix elsewhere. Unfortunately, Netflix won't have it for another year. My TWD buddy and I buy from Amazon and watch it Wednesday mornings before work. It's so worth it!

That season premiere was sick, in every sense of the word.
