Last Resort

Did anyone catch the pilot? I was pleasantly surprised at just how good this show was right off the bat. Not sure how they're going to keep this kind of plot going for multiple seasons, but this was a really good pilot for a network show.

Re: Last Resort

The plot of this show is weird. I mean clearly something has gone wrong with the US government, but the premise that a group of soldiers took over a nuclear sub and then shot one anywhere near the United States. I just don't get how they come back from that to the right side of history. Weird premise. The characters were kind of blah too and they didn't explain enough for me to even care. Like usually you know who the bad guy is in a show, but for now it is just the disembodied government orders which doesn't really make sense. It makes me think it is that one women's father just because he was introduced as a character.

Re: Last Resort

It's pretty decent at what it does, but who stuck Dr. Strangelove in the Oval Office? If you merged The Gulf of Tonkin incident with the Strangelove movie, this would be about what you'd get. I'm really not sure this is sustainable, but the odd thing is, we still have no idea who the villain or villains are, what their endgame is, or why they've formed a nefarious cabal.

Re: Last Resort

I really liked the pilot. Not sure how it will be going forth but right now I am interested in the series. But this is exactly the kind of series that gets cancelled because people would rather simply watch escapist dramas and not action political thrillers. It might have done better in cable network (paired nicely with Homeland). So, I will not get too invested in the series even though I do think it is the most promising one in the roster.

Re: Last Resort

I think this is an escapist drama. It's a Clancy novel as a series. More serious than Burn Notice, but nowhere close to a docudrama. I think the major problem facing them so far is that they can't actually decide or describe who's to blame here. It could be the President trying to stir up an international incident and deflect notice away from the impeachment proceedings. It could be the US version of a military coup. It could just be insane people, but the pieces of information available don't all add up. Some of the guys on the ship think the nuking is their fault. Some guys on the extracted team think it's the Captain's fault, the lobbyist thinks the Admiral ordered it since he's nominally in charge of that theater of operations, but he was totally poleaxed by the news and had the phone ripped out of his hand. They'll need to actually present us with a villain, even if the agenda is murky.

Re: Last Resort

I liked the show too. But atleast they will now give us a proper finale. I am begining to like the characters though episode 7 seemed ff to me. A little inconsistent especially as to keeping the lieutenant in the dark

They're giving a proper ending? I'd assumed it was filmed ahead of time, but maybe not.

Well, let's hope it's an actual ending, and not a cliffhanger

Re: Last Resort

The finale certainly missed its steps in parts, but given that they found out they were cancelled just before production started on this episode, it was really, really well done. The ending montage with the XO's voiceover was especially well done. I really thought this show had potential. Too bad...

Re: Last Resort

Well I felt the finale was a bit rushed. I guess since they had just found out before production started then it makes sense. However they did leave some questions open. Maybe hoping to pickup on the conspiracy theory in a potential sequel??
