She mentioned it was so much better writing The Casual Vacancy without being in a hurry. So I think if she was writing a book in the Potterverse, she would probably not announce it until it's completed.

I agree entirely. That or she would announce she is writing one but say that there is no release date though i do agree that it is more likely she will not announce the book until it is very close to being completed.

Just my opinion of course, but I think it would be a BIG mistake to mess around with the published HP canon.

I agree. Personally, I think messing around with anything involving Marauders era and on could be a big mistake. If she's going to write a book in the Potterverse, then I don't think she should write one that is connected to the character Harry Potter, imo.

Re: Future Novels in the Harry Potter World v.2

Prequels can be bad if not done right, and as much as I'd love something focusing on Harry's parent's generation or even Voldemort's generation, I think that would mess around too much with the current set of books unless the series took place in a parallel universe where the events of HP series have no barring on the prequel featuring James and co. Basically anything that can mess around with the current timeline in the books = tres bad (just look at the Twilight series where a tie-in novella was written and it contradicts the events in the third book).

If there ever is a prequel, I'd like to see something that revolved around the founders and the fallout between them or maybe even Merlin since Pottermore says he went to Hogwarts.

The only way I think I'll be able to deal with a prequel that focuses on any of the characters from the current set of HP books is if they are novella's and extra attention is paid to them so they don't contradict the rest of the series.

I think if there's a sequel, I would like it to skip several generations so many of the main players from the series are dead. But that's just me.

So that means JKR is considering a book set in the Harry Potter universe but a book that is not specifically about Harry. My first thought would be a book like "The Aurors" but there are a million different things she could do. Either way i really hope it happens.
I would like to see a story about someone not involved with Harry Potter at all, someone new, who lives in the wizarding world. It's a very detailed world. It'd be a shame for it not to get some use.

An Author's Cut version of the series would be cool. It would show us how she wanted the books to be. I don't think it would be messing with canon.

I may disagree with you politically, religiously, and/or on Snape but that doesn't mean I dislike you.

That would be interesting reading about the Founders of Hogwarts since we hardly get to hear anything much about them.
Personally, I think a prequel set in a parallel universe would be very confusing especially if it dealt with the Marauder's era.
I would like it if she did short stories on the different eras, for example if one chapter in her book focused a story on the Founders, the other chapter on Dumbledore and family, the other chapter on the Marauders, etc. I think this would be interesting because it would give the reader more insight into their favorite characters without being so detailed that it could conflict with the Harry Potter books (remember how Rowling did that short about James and Sirius? I thought it was very interesting and fun to read and I wouldn't mind more shorts like that).
