The Lion King

Has anyone seen this? I went when I was in London on a drama trip and it was visually stunning, the best thing I've ever seen.

SPOILER.
Spoiler: show
When the people in animal suits and costumes walked down the aisles, my mouth was literally open. This hyena came to the end of our row and laughed at us, haha. Mannn, I was in shock the whole way through. It was completely spellbinding.

If you love to see things for their design, go and see it, I really do recommend it.

Re: The Lion King

The Lion King was always my favorite movie as a child, I haven't seen it performed on state yet. I am not sure if I would enjoy it as much on stage as I did in the theaters.

Re: The Lion King

Well if you're a fan, its worth it. I was gaping at the set for the whole way through, especially the elephant graveyard.

Re: The Lion King

I have to admit, I didn't really like the Disney movies except for a few as a kid. I thought they were too scary. However, watching The Lion King was absolutely amazing onstage! Bringing a story to life is what happens in theater, not in a movie.

Re: The Lion King

I've never seen the live performance of it, just the Disney movie of it. I remember when I saw it in the theatres for the first time. I was 12 years old still and it was a warm, summer day. I was a fan of Jonathan Taylor Thomas as a kid, so that was my main reason for wanting to see it in the first place. I enjoyed it a lot, and it became one of my all-time favorite Disney films.

Re: The Lion King

I recently saw this at *** West End. Everyone I'd spoken to had told me how spectactular and unbelievable and jaw-dropping it was, so that raised my expectations, and I had already seen the opening scene on TV. Although I absolutely loved it, I didn't find it as spectacular as I was expecting, but I actually think this was becase I know the movie too well - I really know it back-to-front and upside-down, so I already knew all the jokes and songs, and was subconsciously looking out for my favourite parts which weren't ecessarily the best parts of the show. Also, what makes the Lion king movie so amazing and special for me is the music, meaning the score as well as the songs, and was expecting the show to live up to it. But while the show had all of the songs plus others and a small amount of the score, I didn't think it was as good as in the movie - the brilliance of the show I think is in the visual aspects of it, and as I had a not-too-brilliant seat, I wasn't able to fully appreciate it. It probably didn't help that I'd seen Les Miserables, the most amazing show ever, the day before.

But it was still brilliant and very enjoyable, and I would like to see it again.

Re: The Lion King

I just saw this yesterday. Oh my goodness, it was amazing! I was almost in tears at the end of "Circle of Life" because it was so beautiful! The best part is definitely the artistic part, the costumes and set. But the music is brilliant, most of the actors were great. I only have a few small complaints, and the major one is something they changed from the movie to the stage. But I'm so glad I finally saw it. It was pretty much incredible!

I saw it in London in 2008 when Alexia Khadime was in it... absolutely amazing. Visually stunning, the music was so moving, the dancing was electrifying.. it was all just fantastic. I'd love to see it again, definitely.

Re: The Lion King

The Lion King was the first national tour that I ever saw. It's an experience. That's really all I can say. It's not similar to anything else in the theatre and is very unique.

Re: The Lion King

I saw The Lion King last October in the Lyceum Theatre, London. And...it was The Lion King's 10th Anniversary!

There was a yellow carpet for us to walk down (yes, yellow, because The Lion King is so special, it doesn't need a red carpet ).

And the show...stunning. Especially that opening, near made me cry.

If anyone has never seen a Musical before- Lion King should be your first stop. In my opinion, it's the best Musical in existance.

I have always wanted to see this on Broadway! It's still a dream of mine. Looks absolutely amazing!

Re: The Lion King

I saw a touring production of the show here and it was un-freaking-believable. The Lion King is one of my favorite movies, and the show absolutely lived up to it. The costumes were soooo fantastic.

I actually had a similar reaction the first time I saw the show. Lion King is one of my favorite Disney movies ... and I know it very well. I saw the stage show in London. I think the combination of knowing it too well and the British delivery made it less spectacular. I saw it a second time when it came to the Kennedy Center and took my kids. I thought it was great that time. I think I was able to focus on the show and the performances rather than the story the second time. (It's kind of like seeing the HP movies after reading the books. If I focus on the movie for it's own sake and stop comparing to the book, I enjoy it much more. Sometimes this takes a second viewing to do!)

The first time I saw it, I was unfortunately on the seats above the floor seats, on that balcony thing~ XD I was able to see the actors dance on the aisles but unfortunately I wasnt able to enjoy it as much :/

Re: The Lion King

I saw this in January and I thought it was really good. Like a few people have already said, I know the movie so well (pretty much word for word) that I didn't find it as good as people had said it was. I still enjoyed it though, and the choreography, and costumes and everything about it was brilliant, it's just that I already knew what was going to happen - apart from a few minor additions that they had made - so I wasn't completely enraptured with it because I was too busy looking forward to my favourite parts.
