Isn't this explained in CoS? Ron states that some families, such as the Malfoys, think they're better than others because they're pureblooded. The Malfoys are a proud family, because they're the closest thing to wizarding aristocracy. The Weasleys are more working class and humble. They don't walk around bragging about the achievements of their family, because that's simply not the sort of people they are.

Technically, the Weasleys are just as "Pure" as the Malfoys and just as much "Aristocrats" as they are. They just don't have the trappings of wealth around them to show off and have to actually work for everything they have.

I couldn't agree more. If aristocracy is measured by pureness of blood, then the Weasleys are right up there with the Blacks and the Malfoys.

Anyway, didn't Sirius tell Harry that all pureblood families were related in one way or the other? So they're actually all the same social class. In Europe, Asia and elsewhere, you have aristocrats, sometimes related to the royal family, who earn their lives working at a job like everyone else. That doesn't make them any less blue-blooded.

Wasn't Lady Diana Spencer, the daughter of an earl, work as a nanny before she married Prince Charles? The family she worked for had no idea of her "blood status".
