I liked PS. I always felt it was a bit too sweet, and looking back on it, you can see how the director had to work so hard with the kids. But they are sweet, and it is pretty true to the book.

It really works as a sweet, innocent film though. The series now has a real arc in terms of the tone.

If it was just dark and mature all along, the development would not only be not as powerful..there wouldn't be a development at all.

If you see the films as a big coming of age tale, then the first film has to be the one with the most innocence and whimsey and PS/SS rocks at that IMO.

The first movie could have been better. I was not a fan of the actor who played Harry, but he got progressively better in the later films. However, I thoroughly recommend to anyone who enjoyed the Harry Potter movies to watch them with the Rifftrax. It's an audio of funny commentary done by the same people who did Mystery Science Theater 3000. They are hilarious! The first and second movie with the ifftrax are my favorite!

Sorcerer's Stone DVD

This thread probably won't be around for long, but just thought I'd mention that, until today, the Sorcerer's Stone was the only HP movie I still had in only VHS format. I hadn't watched it in several years. And since my VCR is dead, I was concerned about my being able to have my HP festival when DH part 2 is released. But today, I was browsing in a major chain store, and found it on sale. So, I got it and watched SS for the first time. It's still a fantastic movie. It's just amazing to see how the cast members have grown. I'm looking forward to the release of DH pt 2 on DVD so I can have my HP Festival.

I really love this film. It's just so lovely and adorable to look back on the trio being all small and cute! It's just light and nice. Not the best one as a film, but just nice to watch and reminisce.
