For me it's not so much Jon and Ygritte as the Caves sequence itself. Unfortunately, the show didn't begin to delve in to what makes the Caves so cool. But it was great to see the Caves anyway!

Well, she enjoys the heat, especially very hot water, but GRRM said in an interview that the birth of her dragons was a special moment that couldn't be repeated. She would burn if her dragons decided to roast her. Her affinity to heat could have many reasons. Maybe she is a bit magical. Maybe growing up with a brother who indoctrinated her with the family motto made her believe that she loves the heat. Who knows.

Right. And we know from the books (this isn't a spoiler since it's history) that Targaryens have died from fire or similar means before. In fact, this last episode told us that Aerys would have died alongside the people if he decided to blow up King's Landing, had Jaime not stopped him.

Re: A Game of Thrones

Again, I don't know if this is dissonance creative license or...god forbid...another attack of the rewrite, but the moments outside the birth of her dragons it's played as if Dany isn't even aware of the excessive heat. Not that she relishes testing her limits, but she isn't even aware that limits are there. And yes, Targareans, even Targareans with dragons tend to be silly about fire, but a lot of those stories seem to be the last dregs of the line trying to recapture past glory (one fool trying to drink "dragonfire" accelerant to become a dragon, the Mad King and his pyromancy obsession, and, of course, Viserys dying by molten crown). She does seem a bit, or more than a bit magical in this version. On another subject, it almost seems too bad that they dropped a lot of the early scenes that made the former head of the Kingsguard memorable before he joins Dany.

Spoiler: show
I can't get a read on whether they're going the love route or the surrogate father route with Jorah at this point. Do you think they'll flip the confrontation or accelerate it?

I most definitely think they are going the lover route with Jorah. I've seen interviews with Iain Glen which back this up. They seem to be setting up a tension between Jorah and Barristan, so I wonder if he knows more than he is letting on...

Re: A Game of Thrones

Well, they've accelerated that plotline A LOT.

Apparently, in the books

Spoiler: show
Dany finds out both their histories simultaneously and feels betrayed by both. She has them "volunteer" for a nearly impossible military action. They agree and succeed. In the wake of the victory, Barristan apologizes for not remaining loyal to her family, but Jorah feels he hasn't wronged her and feels his actions should be justification enough. She wants to pardon him, but realizes she can't after making the public stand, so she expels him from her army and he tries to figure out ways to aid her clandestinely that could earn his way back into her inner circle (well, after the initial devastation, etc.)
The reason I asked the question is that I didn't think the book scenario was workable given that the paler TV Barristan has a lot more in common with Baelish than it seems his counterpart in the book ever did.

Re: A Game of Thrones

Baelish is a schemer. Barristan is a warrior. I don't think that has changed based on what I have seen so far of the series.

My favorite scene of the series so far has been

Spoiler: show
when Lord Tywin told Tyrion and Cersei who he expected them to marry. Their faces were priceless

Re: A Game of Thrones

I have only just finished the first season of this show, but I'm definitely interested in seeing more (I have never read the books, btw). The characters are really complex and well-written - sometimes you don't know who they'll support or what their motives are.

The Targarean woman (whose name I can't remember) is intriguing. The minute she got those dragon eggs, I knew they were going to hatch. She started off rather timid and naive, it seemed, and then grew into a leadership role. I felt sorry for her when the whole bit with Drogo and the witch happened. In the grand scheme of things, I can't figure out if she would try to take the Iron Throne for herself, or whether she would ally herself with any of the other characters.

Right now I'm really anxious to follow Arya, to make sure she gets to Winterfell safely. I like her, she's got a lot of spirit. Hopefully she gets a new sword master to continue her training. If John Snow wasn't in the Knight's Watch I'd want him to teach her, since he's extremely good with a sword.

Too bad Sean Bean dies yet again. He seems to play only doomed characters. In any case, it seemed kind of inevitable that his character would bite the dust once he was captured. :/ A pity. Also a pity that Sansa seems doomed to be controlled by Geoffry. He was rather cruel from the start, but I get the feeling he's only going to become more so as time goes on.

My favorite Lanister is definitely Tirion (the dwarf). Hopefully he doesn't get killed anytime soon, he's rather entertaining.

I really like Tirion as well . He's far from perfect. But he's one of the more entertaining characters so far.

Yea liked Sean Bean's character... hated to see him get killed off soon, dang it .

Geoffry = from me. He's a sick you know what. Same here... he was pretty much no good from the start and he's only going to get worse and worse as he gets older.

Re: A Game of Thrones

I have read the books, but I only just started watching the series. I'm watching Season 3 simultaneously with backtracking to Season 1. This afternoon, I will be watching Ned's death.

For those who are watching the current season, the name of the coming episode is "The Rains of Castamere."

If you have read the books...

Spoiler: show
The title is highly suggestive that next up is the RW. If that's the case (and seriously, how could it not be?) I am hoping the episode ends with Arya. It was a great cliffhanger in the book. It would make a brilliant cliffhanger on screen.
