Re: Swedish / Svenska

About basshunter... What he is singing makes no sense to anyone. Not even us swedes have any clue of what he is singing about.

Nice to see that not everyone thinks swedish is a difficult language. Since my girlfriend is from Scotland she have learning swedish as the big reason why she shouldn't move here.

Swedish is a very easy language compared to most others, we don't feminine or masculine names on fruits and stuff like the french x)

Re: Swedish / Svenska

Hey, someone posting here! I've been pondering doing so, but wasn't sure since the thread was getting on a bit. Either way, I'm Swedish too, so if anyone is studying the language I might be able to help.

It is true, it makes it a lot easier that there are not any feminine or masculine forms on words in swedish... And I do think swedish is quite an easy language to learn...Being bilingual in swedish and finish I do believe finish is much harder to learn than swedish. Swedish is in some ways much similar to german, norweigan and danish...

Re: Swedish / Svenska

I'm not sure that having two genders (neutrum and utrum) instead of three makes it much easier. There are also remnants of masculine/feminine inflection of adjectives. You can address someone with 'gamle man' or 'bäste bror'. But you can't say 'gamle dam' or 'bäste syster'. In the latter case it has to be gamla and bästa. Even if this masculine inflection is nowadays considered archaic and maybe taught in school not to be used, you still find it in written texts often enough.

That Finnish usually is harder for Europeans in general is no surprise as it is not even an Indo European language.

Re: Swedish / Svenska

Just found out this song wasn't Japanese!!!

Dansa med oss
Klappa era händer
Gör som vi gör
Ta nagrå steg at vanster
Lyssna och lar
Missa inte chansen
Nu ar vi har med
Caramelldansen

I would love to take Swedish in High School, but I don't think my school offers it.

And here it is with those exotic dots in the right places.
Dansa med oss
Klappa era händer
Gör som vi gör
Ta några steg at vänster
Lyssna och lär
Missa inte chansen
Nu är vi här med
Karamelldansen

Re: Swedish / Svenska

Alastor and Gertie, are you guys Swedish or just spookily good at the lingo?

(Now let's distract Alastor before he'll find all the grammar nonsense I produced...)

Re: Swedish / Svenska

Alastor - Finland?

Det är inte så illa, Gertie... lite problem med ordföljden (word order) bara, och så heter det reste. Annars ser det perfekt ut.
