Re: Do you think the movies would have been better if they were animated?

While animation has improved significantly over the years- I was watching "Finding Nemo" the other day and noticed that a lot of times they animate background characters to react (or blink, sigh, move, twitch, etc.) to what the main characters are doing. While that's impressive, it doesn't match the way live actors react to things with expressions, slight bodily movements, etc.

No. I bet that is the next thing. Maybe there will be a lapse, say 10 years and then some idiot will want to do them in animated form. That is what happened with the LOTR's films. They were animated first and then the live action films some 20 years later. I have to say though that the live action films turned out a lot better than the animated LOTR's. I hope Jackson will do the Hobbit soon.

No I like the movies the way they are, even though, it would be cool to see a Harry Potter anime

I am a fan of animated films, but no. I think live action is much more appropriate

I'd watch them if they were animated, but I would prefer live action. All the magical stuff seems more magical when there are real people. Having cartoon spells cast by cartoon characters wouldn't seem as interesting.

I perfer the movies to be non-animated. Though it would be kind of cool to see what the charactars look like animated.

Re: Do you think the movies would have been better if they were animated?

Being animated doesn't really bother me, I like animated films(well, not the most recent ones, they lack of a real good story). I also like the anime stile, I would love to see Harry in anime.
But if it were from me I would make a TV series, with every chapter from the book to be an episode an every book to be a season. They wouldn't have to cut the book so much, and if they wanted to add something more they could because there would be enough time for it.
But anyway, it will be to expensive and I like the movies as they are.

Re: Do you think the movies would have been better if they were animated?

It depends on 1) how good the animation and 2) how good the voice acting. On the whole I'd say no; live-action is better.

Re: Do you think the movies would have been better if they were animated?

I may be very wrong here, but I think some of you imagine an animated movie as having bright, simplistic and childish graphics with choppy movements. That's usually what people picture when they hear the word "animation"... or worse, "cartoon".

When I said that I wouldn't mind an animated version, I meant dark, adult, fluid and realistic-looking animation ; not the kind of cartoons they broadcast on Saturday afternoons for kids.

I agree. The movies would lose a significant amount of their magical feeling if they were animated. This is because, when things are animated, it is expected that something unnatural occurs (of course, many recent films have become more realistic). For example, it is common to see, in cartoons, a creature/human running off a cliff and continue running in thin air. If they did this same thing with Harry Potter, it would simply be another cartoon instead of being unique. To see live people continue running in thin air (as an example) is much more exciting/unique/magical than watching an animated person do the same.

Thus, making the Harry Potter series animated would be a bad idea. I shall use one more example: Lord of the Rings. The animated version of this 'trilogy' was not very successful in the slightest, but when they recreated them years later they were the most successful/well-liked films for numerous years (demonstrated by Return of the King grabbing what seems like every Oscar ever created).

I am in no way comparing the two series, but the outcome of the two would, most likely, be the same: the 'live' version easily outstrips the animated one.
