Re: Excluded and underused favourite characters in the movies

For me it would definitely have to be Snape, Ron, and poor Peeves who is left out entirelyu. Ron's best lines in the books always seem to be cut out or given to Harry or Hermione. Snape's character isw very different in the books and movies. Movie Snape is nicer and Harry trusts him (at the end of HBP when harry listens to him and stays quiet). Peeves isn't that important, but I always laughed at his parts.

It's probably been mentioned umpteen times, but Peeves, Percy, and Pig.

Ginny is underused and when shes on screen the script ruins the character.

I just noticed, I forgot to put my own list:

Bill and Charlie Weasley,

Dobby, Winky, Kreacher

Peeves

More of the Percy-Weasley Family estrangement, setting up his showing up at the Battle of Hogwarts
Totally agree especially cause Dobby is in 5 of the books and does actions which are important for the story.Giving those storylines to Neville is an insult to both.Kreacher's storyline in both OTPh and Deathly Hallows is in important as is Harry's attitude towards Kreacher after OTPh.Nearly Headless Nick should be in the movies alot more also. The conversation between Harry and Nick after Sirius death is very touching.I wanted to see McGonnagal more in the OTPh too the scene where she gets hurt is very important in the book.

I find the most glaring absence is with the house elves. The scriptwriters have made the same mistake as the Death Eaters, in misjudging house elves' importance.

I totally agree about Dobby. I cried more when he died in the 7th book than when Dumbledore died! But I also think McGonagall should have had a larger part in all the movies. I think Harry really looks up to her, obviously not in the same way as Dumbledore and Sirius, but he is still very affected when she is proud or disappointed in him, and he is more worried when McGonagall shows fear etc.

I think some people have menioned Sir Cadogan, I completely forgot about him until a recent re-read. It's funny how the films can cause you to forget parts of the books. I reall enjoyed him as a character, his comedy lightened the atmosphere in the darker partsof Prisoner of Azkaban so I actuallyenjoyed rediscovering his character. I can understand why he may not have been included in the films, it's hard for the actors to interact with someone in a portrait and it may not show that well onscreen. They missed out other portrait characters like Phineus Nigellus didn't they?

^Look at the deleted scene at 2:46. It's hilarious - and well played by Paul Whitehouse

Re: Excluded and underused favourite characters in the movies

The Weasleys of course, Ginny ( wish she was more in HBP especially), Percy, Bill and Charlie.

Where did Lee Jordan go?

Peeves isn't even mentioned, and Nearly Headless Nick haven't been talking to Hary since the first year am I right?

Did Harry even inherit Kreacher? I'm wondering what hey are going to do about that i DH.

Can't think of anyone else just now, but I'm sure there are more

I fear the list of characters who were not in the movies or not as much as they should have been is probably longer then the list of characters who were in it

DOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!
They keep replacing him with Neville!
Peeves, Winky, Kreacher, Ron's older brothers (Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred and George), Ginny, Hogwarts Ghosts (Nick, Grey Lady, etc.), Dumbledore, McGonagall, I could go on forever....

Bill & Charlie, Winky, Mundungus Fletcher, Lily Evans-Potter (even though she's not in the books much, it's still upsetting that they didn't have her in Snape's worst memory scene in OotP!) and Peeves!

Re: Excluded and underused favourite characters in the movies

Bill & Charlie for sure, but also Percy (he made me so angry in the books)
and Bill and Fleur's wedding is going to be kind of weird, especially for non-readers (-> "who's that guy with the red hair, and scars in his face, who is marrying Fleur ?" )

But who I miss the most are the house-elves
Dobby and Kreacher are actually pretty important. Since they firstly appeared they have been in every book.
Kreacher had like.. 10 seconds on screen (?) and he is one of my favourite characters.

Greyback could have had more screentime too (at least a small explanation of who he is) and I missed his small dialogue with dumbledore at the top of the astronomy tower

Bill, Charlie, Parcy and some members of the Order. There were many characters excluded in the movies!

Neville in HBP just made me mad
No part except for being a waiter? LAME!

I also missed Luna's insanely amazing commentary in the Quidditch Match...

Re: Excluded and underused favourite characters in the movies

Tonks and Lupin are definitely my favorite characters and I was so sad when they were in only one scene in HBP. I like PoA a lot because Lupin is very present, but Tonks was never in the movies that much.
