I hope in those missing seconds we will hear Hedwig's Theme...

I just listened to "Statues" and I think it has the same melody from "Courtyard Apocalypse." So far, this is my favorite.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2 Soundtrack (First samples released)

Statues is absolutely incredible. It's epic from the get go and brimming with emotion, and then it slows down and becomes somber. Utterly amazing track.

I'm seriously holding out hope for A New Beginning having more oomph. I like it. But that's simply not good enough for the final scene in the series. Desplat has already seemed to deliver an exceptional soundtrack. Not having Hedwig's Theme/Goodbye Hogwarts at the very end would be, no exaggeration, the single biggest wasted musical opportunity in cinema.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2 Soundtrack (First samples released)

i been listening to the 1 minute soundtrack samples non-stop for 2 days now.
and they all sound quite brilliant, (my favorite ones are Lily's theme, Dragon flight, Neville, Statues,Battlefield, The Diadem, courtyard apocalypses, Harry's Sacrifice, the resurrection stone, harry surrenders, processions, showdown, and Voldemort's end)

but there one track that leaves me particularly underwhelmed and disappointed... (and in a way a little sad too in the general sense of the soundtrack)

it's "into the chamber of secrets" one. the track is 1:37 long.
and for that minute all i could hear was "danger, danger destroying the horcrux" kind of music.
i'm still hopeful that most of those 37 seconds left are for ron/hermione kiss and there is some pretty tune in them.

at the same time, it leaves me dissapointed that, while of course there needed to be music for the destruction of the cup horcrux, that there's no individual track for the ron/hermione kiss.

all other kisses in the movies had one (harry/cho- 1:56, ginny gets 2 full ones- hbp- 2:38, DH1- 1:43)
but Ron and Hermione only get 37 seconds worth of one?

that seems unfair. they deserved a love track (a good one) just as much.

Did anyone buy the soundtrack today? Amazon has it for $6.99 so I went ahead and downloaded it. I really love Courtyard Apocalypse! I can't wait to hear the tracks with the movie.

Absolutely fantastic! I love pretty much all the tracks, but I want to reserve judgement on my favorites till after I see the film.
(Just for now though... 'Harry's Sacrifice' is incredibly beautiful. I shed a tear just listening to it! And 'Courtyard Apocalypse', 'Neville the Hero', and 'Lily's Theme' are brilliant too.)

I think that it is a great idea that they released the harry potter soundtrack music cd. I might be thinking of buying it later in the future and listening to it on my ipod all the time.

I have to say that there is a lot more music in the film that isn't on the CD, and most of these are PS style

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2 Soundtrack

The soundtrack was brilliant and fit so perfectly in the movie. I think Statues, Lily's Theme and Severus & Lily were especially amazing; the already brilliant scenes that the tracks played in became even more emotional and plain awesome . Fans of John Williams will also be really happy as well

Alexandre Desplat has quickly become one of my favourite composers; he's done an amazing job on this film.

Snape's Demise. It has a little piece of Hedwig's Theme, what sounds like slashing, and then Lily's Theme. Makes me tear up, every time.

I haven't seen the movie yet, so my thoughts might change after seeing the soundtrack in the film, but right now I like Courtyard Apocalypse. I'm sure I'll like others once I hear them in context.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2 Soundtrack

I LOVE THE SOUNDTRACK. I'll get my CD tomorrow. Having seen the movie the third time today I had the possibilty to concentrate on the music more ... and it's definitely the best.

I also loved how they used music from PS in the end.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2 Soundtrack

wow there are several scenes in the movie that used past soundtrack, apart from the leaving hogwarts at the epilogue, i was really surprised and loved the inclusion of hoopers in noctem track i think it is, the one that is played when dumbledore is shown dead in the castle, in the climax of the prince tales, also when harry comes back to howgarts they played a williams version of hegwid theme and also in another scene i can remember, those were some really good details to include from past soundtracks

In DH Part 1, it would definitely be Snape to Malfoy Manor. Obliviate is a close second

DH Part 2 - This soundtrack is amazing; it's so hard to pick a favourite song. I absolutely LOVE Statues, but Lily's Theme, Broomsticks & Fire, Dragon's Flight and Severus & Lily are really good as well. Statues is so amazing, especially in the scene they play it in.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2 Soundtrack

As a prelude, my interpretation of the DH Part 2 soundtrack is based on its context in the film and not on the individual samples/tracks that have been released.

I must say that I was wary of the Part 2 score because I was severely unimpressed by that of Part 1. I feel that the Part 1 soundtrack may fit the film in context but it has no substance to it: it does not add to the film's scenes and serves only as background support, at the best of times. In many scenes, I cannot even hear the score.

This is not the case with Part 2, and I think it is because the filmmakers wanted to emphasize the emotions and nostalgia of the scenes partly through the music. Desplat includes his own interpretations and his own musical literacy into the film, but I was incredibly happy to see that he utilized John Williams irreplaceable themes. His use of Hedwig's Theme and other early tracks during the film added to the sentimentality and emotion of the scenes, and those tracks were often the reasons why I was brought close to tears. The music for the epilogue was perfectly fitting - a tribute to the first film and to what the filmmakers set out to produce and accomplish with the Harry Potter films. It truly concluded DH Part 2 and closed the films into a full circle.

Meanwhile, Desplat's original tracks were incredible: they were tangible, yet not too prominent, adding the perfect character to the scenes. Overall, I think this was the most successful soundtrack since John Williams.
