Things you liked best about DH part 2

Since we have a thread about what bothered us the most about DH part 2, I thought it would be nice to have one where we could talk about what we liked best about the film, especially since it is the last one.

For me, hands down, what I liked best was how the prince's tale was portrayed. Even though I knew what was going to happen, alan rickman's performance, the score, the selection of scenes, etc had me sobbing by the end of it. After I saw it for the second time, I actually appreciated it even more because of the flashbacks we got from all the previous films- the sorting in SS, the occlumencia from OOTP, the astronomy tower scenes from HBP, and of course the silver doe from DH part 1. Seeing the juxtaposition of Snape's patronus with that shot of Harry and the doe brings me to tears every time.

Even now, whenever I think about the prince's tale from the film, I can't help but well up with tears! I know some wish they had included scenes of an adolescent snape and lily, but ultimately the flashbacks showed how devoted he was to her and how much he sacrificed for a love that was unrequited. It was amazing!

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

I agree completely. I loved the way Snape's death, the pensieve, and Harry's reaction to what he sees were definitely my favorite parts of the movie.

I also, for some reason, loved the Flight of the Dragon. I'm not sure why, I know it wasn't really a big scene, but I really felt for the dragon and loved the way it took those deep breathes of fresh air and then was free. That scene really touched me, for some reason.

Let's see, what else. I thought the scene where Harry is "looking" for Voldemort so the trio can kill the snake was really well done. I thought Dan really showed by JKR was describing in the book.

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

I'm not a fan of CGI, but the dragon was very well done.

I think what I like best, is the sense of maturity and dignity they gave to this movie. It deserved it. What humor there was, was minimal and understated for the most part. I think the gravity of this ending story was done very well by everyone and though it's bittersweet it feels good. It feels like they did justice to the story and theme that Jo gives us. The battles feel real and intense, not just romps or contests like in the past. In the Forest Again was done with depth and sensitivity. Rickman delivers Snapes depth and tragedy. We feel loss and the human frailty. There are flaws yes, but overall the thing I come away with, that I appreciate most is how considerately this last film was treated. I just want to be able to see all those people involved in the film, the actors, directors, producers and crew, and say to each one of them "Thank you. Thank you."

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

Thanks for starting this thread!

There were so many things I liked! Lets see if I can remember them all, lol.

- The Prince's Tale
- Harry going into the forest. "Stay close to me." "Always."
- Brief exchange between the Weasley twins
- Hermiotrix!
- "Lightening has struck."
- Harry confronting Snape in the Great Hall
- McGonagall chasing Snape away in the Great Hall.
- King's Cross scene: Super creepy Voldemort-baby piece of soul; Dumbledore calling Harry a "brave, brave man."
- Neville!
- Fire in RoR
- Final scene before the epilogue, with Ron, Hermione, and Harry simply standing side by side, holding hands, looking over Hogwarts grounds.
- Epilogue

Hmm...Pretty much the whole movie.

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

Alan Rickman's performance really stuck out for me, but on the second viewing I really have to give kudos to Dan as well. He did such a good job capturing the rollercoaster of emotions that Harry goes thru and I honestly think this was his best performance.

In the great hall when he confronted Snape he showed anger and confidence. When he was talking to the Grey Lady and seeing the attack had started, you could see how panicked, afraid, and desperate he was. Every time he and Voldemort had one of their "mind melds" you could see the tortured expression on his face. When he saw Snape dying, I could see that the anger he once had was replaced by pity and sorrow. Then of course, after the pensieve, when he has that quiet moment on the stairs, you can see the shock and resignation he feels at what he just learned and what he has to do. He did such a wonderful job!

The best scene was definitely when Harry stepped out from the line-up in the Great Hall and confronted Severus. Radcliffe's confrontation gave me the chills, remarkable acting! Then Rickman's reaction to Radcliffe's confrontation was top class as well! Great scene.

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

- I love seeing the 19 years chapter. It was sweet to see the Trio stand together in King Cross and watch as their children are off to hogwarts. It was beautiful and it was a great ending in my opinion.
- The Snape escape after dueling with Professor McGonagall was done awesome.
- Molly VS. Bellatrix. Those 5 lines made it into the film.
- The Prince's tale. I was worried about this part of the film and seeing it on scene, all my fears went out the window. I was just crying at the end.

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

Everything to do with Snape was amazing. Rickman really took me by surprise, he did an outstanding job. I broke into tears when we first see him on screen in the beginning. His death and the Prince's Tale was the best. I also liked how they added the scene of Ron and Hermione in the Chamber since we didn't see that in the book. The whole Forest scene was done well, and the Epilogue. I like how we see a hint of aging, especially in Harry.

- Look into my eyes.

That bit will stick in my mind forever.

To the average viewer that was just a simple sentance to increase tension from a man about to enter death, but to all of us it meant alot more.

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

-Room of Requirement scene, banter with Seamus. Harry says, "I realize that's not much to go on" and Seamus says, "That's nothing to go on" and then Ron saying "Shut Up Seamus" after Seamus points out that Ginny has lots of brothers but only one Harry. Loved that!

-The trio running through the courtyard
-Harry's reaction to TPT
-the scene after they got out of the RoR and Harry was trying to destroy the diadem. I liked Ron in that scene.

-The resurrection stone scene. I thought Dan did it really well.
ETA: How could I forget? I loved the Great Hall scene from the beginning of Snape's speech until the end with Voldemort's voice invading everyone's minds. Loved Dan in that scene, confronting Snape, loved Maggie Smith in that scene, Loved Rickman in that scene (especially the way he struck down the Carrows!) Awesome scene.

Severus and Minerva made the movie for me, made up for a decent Dumbledore making an appearance. Think that Dan, Emma and Rupert really upped their game for this movie aswell, they pulled off the emotional scenes so well.

Also the banter was evenly split and well placed in the film.

Neville scene vs Snatchers
Seamus and Ron scene in the RoR

The Prince's Tale no question. It was awesome. Snape's death as well.

McGonagall vs Snape was really great! That man even billows as he fights!

Neville. Everything about Neville.

"Harry Potter, you listen to me right now!" Yes, Luna.

Gringotts Scenes.

Nearly everything about the film actually.

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

Thank you for reminding me of Snape's speech to the Hogwarts students and Harry's and the Order's entrances there. Awesome!

The Prince's Tale is a beautiful, emotional, heart-wrenching scene and besides a few more scenes of teen Lily and Snape together, they couldn't have put it together more perfectly. Alan Rickman's performance here was sensational.

Harry's walk through the forest with his parents, Lupin, and Sirius. Here's where the waterworks started and it was all due to Dan's brilliant performance. There is so much power and emotion behind the lines in this scene.

McGonagall, Neville, and Luna. Every.single.line was delivered perfectly. They were commanding, tough, and I think EPIC sums it up nicely.

Oh! And I'm SO SO glad they kept in Dumbledore's line, "Of course this is all happening inside your head Harry, but why on earth should that mean it isn't real?"

Same here. Along with the acting by everyone. That really stood out to me.

Neville killing Nagini. That scene really had me cheering .

Re: Things you liked best about DH part 2

Wow, there are so many moments in DH2 that I love. I'll list them to make it easy to read

"Lightening has struck! I repeat, lightening has struck!" YES YES YES! I thought that was so clever and it made me heart soar knowing that people knew this code and had expected Harry to show up. Imagine the excitement of hearing Harry was alive and ready to fight after nearly a YEAR of him being MIA!

The exchange between the Weasley twins. I sobbed after this because I knew Fred was going to die soon afterward but I also admired their bravery and loyalty to Hogwarts, their family and their friends. True Gryffindors.

Harry showing himself in the Great Hall to Snape. Wow! I usually get angry when things don't match up to the book but I thought this was such a dramatic scene. It also showcased Harry's bravery which I have always admired. Again, what a true Gryffindor.

McGonagall protecting Harry in the Great Hall. I always knew that beneath her strictness she held a soft spot for Harry. This was obviously beginning to show more often in OoTP but this last show of loyalty to Harry was heartwrenching. It also reminded me of when she left baby Harry at the Dursleys with Hagrid and Dumbledore and how she had cried for him. I'm so happy she survived! I love her!

Everything Neville. I remember his famous "I'll fight you!" line and its so touching and amazing to see how he really grew up into an amazing man in DH.

Dumblebore "You brave, brave man". Although I always thought Harry was very mature for his age, I think that after his sacrifice he turned into a man. I get sentimental thinking again of 11 year old Harry and couldn't have imagined him sacrificing himself for everybody while I read the SS. I never loved Harry more than at that moment.

"Look into my eyes". The power of love. Heartbreaking.

Harry's facial expression before Voldemort kills him and the way he closes his eyes. I was actually shaking uncontrollably during that scene.

Harry, Ron and Hermione holding hands in front of Hogwarts. So many things about that scene made me so sad and proud and happy at the same time. Firstly, the end of the journey between the three of them hit me. I remember the three of them meeting eachother for the first time on the Hogwarts Express and can't believe that they had all grown up so much and been through so much together. The magic of friendship.
I was so happy for the three of them as well - as sad as I was that the series was over. I remember thinking, "Why are you crying? Now Harry, Hermione and Ron get to live a well deserved quiet private life!". That scene is just so amazing and simple.
