Then the obvious, the ending. I felt Voldemort's rebirth was done extremely well, which means it was very creepy. It was the only film to be PG13, was it not?
No, OOTP was a PG-13 too.

OotP, because it has the least humor. I expected it t HBP, actually, what with Dumbledore's death, but it was so funny in the beginning, and there was so much hope at the end that I don't think it was very dark.

OotP thus far. I wasn't impressed with the forced darkness of HBP.

I think GoF is one of the darkest movies. And HBP should have been the darkest so far, but it had too many comical scenes to classify the whole movie as dark.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I think GOF has been the darkest so far, because of LV's rebirth.

I think if they had done HBP differently, like the horcrux memories and more about Tom Riddle/LV and had done DD's death scene more like the book it could have been the darkest. I mean, I think DD should have body-binded Harry before Draco came to the tower and they should have had a small battle with some of the students at the end. Like other here, I think HBP had too much comedy and light moments.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I'm going to have to say GoF seemed the darkest to me. With the birth of Voldemort and all. OotP was pretty dark but I think GoF wins. I actually quite like the GoF movie.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I would go with PoA. The content isn't as dark as GoF, OotP or HBP, but it has a really bleak and solemn atmosphere. There's only a couple funny scenes, the rest of it is kind of dreary and there's a lot of scenes that have a really tangible element of fear about them. I actually really like the way the movie was done, it was a good way to transition from the childish first two films to the more dark and mature sequels.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I think that each movie besides Sorcerer's Stone and COS were dark in their own ways. But, what one scene comes to my mind is not just the rebirth of Voldemort in GOB, but in Order Of The Phoenix when Voldemort possesses Harry while Harry is trying to fight him off. I think that scene is pretty dark as well.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I think there is darkness in all of the stories (books/movies) but none of it is realized to the extent that it could be. I'm sure that this is due to the many children watching the films.

The graveyard scene in GoF sounds terrifying - a fourteen year old boy, who has just seen a peer be killed on the spot, witnesses the grotesque rebirth of Voldemort and is surrounded by fully grown Death Eaters as he is challenged to a duel to the death. Not bad huh?

As much as there are dark points in other parts of the films, I don't find any of them as scary as that one, simply due to the age Harry was in conjunction with the setting and the people around him.

That being said, walking into the CoS before finding Ginny SHOULD have been the darkest part of the series - there was nothing to tell us what he would find (other than Ginny's body, dead or alive).

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I agree with you lot, I'm thinkin' Goblet of Fire was the darkest so far.
But Half Blood Prince, in my opinion, has been the darkest book, but like you's said, there was alot of funny moments and romance to lift it up abit.

But when I went to see Goblet of Fire at the movies, I was like wow o.O When did the movies become so depressing? Haha.

OotP just because of the ministry scenes.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I think it is OOTP....it was dark even inside Hogwart.
And GOF is almost at the same level....

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I think POA had some of the darkest elments with the Dementors. I could see GOF being darkest with the Voldemort scene but the Dementors were scary in how they looked and everything they represented. At least Voldy was once human.

The 4th. Voldemort coming to life, the start of the movie, the graveyard, all the Triwizard tasks, so many dark elements in that film. <3

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I'd say Order of the Phoenix. The whole film was a brooding and depressing experience, what with Harry being ignored by Dumbledore and frowned upon by the Ministry. Imagine knowing that the person who killed your parents is on the loose again and none is even bothering to listen to you. And your mind is being invaded by Voldemort, messing things up and driving you to madness. OOTP had a political, yet strained and cold feel to it which makes it the darkest yet in my opinion.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

I'd go with the fifth. While the Order of the Phoenix had a great deal of humour and all (I LOVED Umbridge), I think at the same time, it was a fairly dark movie. It was bluntly obvious that Voldemort had returned, and that the Ministry was corrupt. Even in the sixth film, things were quite so stacked against the protagonists. Dumbledore provided Harry with the information to beat the Dark Lord.

As well as that, the film employed (mild) graphic torture - the ''I must not tell lies'' pen.

I have to agree with that. The whole movie screamed out a desperate vibe. Hogwarts isn't Hogwarts anymore because of Umbridge and the Ministry. People don't see Harry as the hero but as a freak who lies.

Re: Which Film Is The Darkest?

Definitely Goblet of Fire, it had the first serious death scene, and the graveyard battle was simply chilling.
