Where do the characters live 19 years later?

Where do the Potters live at the time of the epilogue?

If I were doing a poll I would have the options:

A) Number 12 Grimmauld Place,
B) Godric's Hollow,
C) Hogsmeade,
D) Elsewhere.

I'd have to say Number 12 Grimmauld Place. Sirius left it to Harry so the Potters should have lived there.

I can see Lily and James' house becoming a sort of war meusem or something. Something that would show the people who the Potters were, what they were like, and having it show memorys of the past. If all of that is possible anyways.

Not only do I think Harry and Ginny live in 12 Grimmauld Place, but I think they remodeled it into two apartments. Ron and Hermione live in the other one.

Can't break up the Trio.

If it's Grimmauld Place, it's greatly remodeled. I could see Harry leaving the house in Godric's Hollow as a memorial to his parents. Personally, if he and Ginny bought a house, I'd say that he would have moved to Ottery St. Catchpole.

In the Epilogue of DH, Harry's conversation about Teddy Lupin moving in seemed to suggest that they live in a reasonably small house--after all, James offered to move in with Albus. That hardly seems like Grimmauld Place, which had plenty of bedrooms--unless James just wanted Teddy on the same floor as he and Albus.

Live in Grim Place with that screaming portrait of Mrs Black? I don't think so. Although Kreacher might have been able to quieten her down I suppose. No I think some place in a country village - near the Weasley's perhaps.

I've always thought that Harry would end up living close to the Burrow. He's always been like family to the Weasley's. Now that he's married to Jenny it seems like they would be close to their family.

My thought exactly, Hagridsgirl. And, welcome to the COSForums!

I think you meant married to Ginny - not Jenny.

Yes I think a house outside the village of Ottery St Catchpole not too far from the Weasleys and near Ron and Hermione. After all I bet Molly and Arthur would make great grandparents and babysitters.

Re: Where do the Potters live 19 years later?

London would be my thought, as Harry, Ron, and Hermione all work for the Ministry. I don't think Grimmauld place would be Harry's choice for a place to raise his family. No matter how well it was cleaned, I would bet Dark things would still be turning up for years. Also, what parent would want to put their young son into Sirius' permanently decorated bedroom? It's not the sort of room you would want to live in with your wife either (remember the swimsuit pictures?) I think Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione would get new houses to live in, preferably in the same neighborhood so that the kids could walk down the street to play with each other.

Re: Where do the Potters live 19 years later?

I would hate to think of Harry living in that dreary house at #12 Grimmauld Place. The heads of the former house elves and the screaming portrait of Mrs Black would be very unpleasant. Just think what it would be like trying to raise three children in a place like that. Does the playpen go next to the droxy filled drapes? What if James and Al try to play hide and seek and find the clothes that try to strangle you? How would Mrs. Black's portrait like waking up at 3 am when the baby cries?

Ginny might have a say in where they live, too. I like to see them in a place that has enough room to entertain their massive extensive family. A garden with plenty of gnomes would be nice, too.

I have a feeling that when Harry returned to Grimmauld Place in May or June, following nine or ten months' absence, that Kreacher had more than the kitchens spotless and detoxified.

For that matter, I suspect that Kreacher had a hot dinner on the table every night during Harry's absence, in the simple hope that he would return home.

Like his other secrets, I suspect that Kreacher had a way of dealing with the portrait of Mrs.Black.

Of course she would have a say! But, seeing as she had to spend much of her youth de-gnoming the garden, she might not particularly want another. As long as Mrs. Weasley was still able-bodied and in good health, I think the Burrow is where most family gatherings would take place. Molly couldn't possibly resist the chance to make sure her grandchildren were well-fed!

I couldnt imagine them living at Grimmauld Place. I dont think Harry would be able to stand living there. Anyway, isnt Moodys ghost live there? Godrics Hallow would be out of the question, just because how painful it be for Harry. Ottery St Catchpole sounds good to me

No, it isn't Moody's ghost. It is a ghostly-looking version of Dumbledore that Moody placed in the house as an alarm system/scarecrow to keep Snape (Dumbledore's presumed murderer) out. I'm pretty sure that a fully trained witch or wizard would be able to get rid of it. The trio didn't necessarily have the know-how to remove it when they were using the house in DH. Mrs. Black would remain a strong deterrent from raising a family in that house. Parents would not want their children around such abusive language.

Re: Where do the Potters live 19 years later?

I started a thread earlier wondering how much BANK Harry has got so if he has as much cash as I think he's got he could easily buy a small country home next to Ottery Catchpole on the weekends, but on the weekdays and to be close to the ministry #12 Grimwauld place would be ideal, theoretically with all the house elves available during the summer it would take them less than a week to make the place habitable.

A bit out of topic, If they dont want to live there... I see Ron and Hermione living there since its close to the ministry, either that or before Ron enters the ministry they could be living on top of Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, someone's gotta keep an eye on George as he trys to put his life back into place.

I think that since Harry liked the peaceful scenery of shell cottage so much he probably found a house near by and settled in with Ginny.

Re: Where do the Potters live 19 years later?

I don't see why they would find London any more appropriate to live in than somewhere else seeing as they could apparate to work. Personally I think they live somewhere near the burrow, close to the Weasley's so the kids can see their grandparents and Ron and Hermione probably live near too

Re: Where do the Potters live 19 years later?

I think that they quite possibly live in near Ottery St Catchpole. It seems like a nice quiet area with a few wizarding families such as the Weasleys and Lovegoods.
I think that Harry would have wanted to keep Godric's Hollow as a memorial and Grimmauld Place just seems too gloomy. Maybe if it was completely renovated it might be alright but otherwise, no.

Re: Where do the Potters live 19 years later?

I can definitely see both Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione building thier own houses near the Weasley family. Maybe Hermione would even move her parents to the area. I think that both Ginny and Ron (and even Harry and Hermione, really) would want to be near Mom and Pop Weasley.

I can't really see them living in Grimmuld Place full time. As many have said, it would most likely be dangerous to have small children there, so maybe after the kids got older, but definitely not as they were growing up.
