J.K. Rowling's Official Website Thread v.15

With the latest news from Jo's site, it's time to open a brand new version.

The latest news being we have WOMBAT #3!

This is the thread to discuss Jo's site and any updates, or to complain about the lack of updates!

So, do we reckon we'll get chapter titles and/or an extract from DH and if so when?

This time, i don't think that we'll get chapter titles or extracts from the book, as it's the last book, and she'll want to keep fans waqiting until it comes out.

I don't know if we are going to get anything, but if we do, it will probably come with the wombat results. Also, some Vista users have noticed a special countdown on Jo's site which is "counting down" to the release of the new book...except it's counting down to 7/7/07. Interesting, to say the least.

I wonder if that was her planned-for date that got changed to the 21st. I doubt she's going to change the publication date!

D'you think this is the last JKR's Official Site thread before DH? Eep.

Yay, I hope so! That's just what I'd love right now, some official spoilers. I'm getting tired of running into the other kind (not on CoS, of course *waves ASA flag*), I want some real stuff! At least there's not long now before we find out what the purpose of the WOMBAT is, I suppose. How long is it since we got the first?

Heh I doubt she's going to change the publication now too. I am not sure I believe the Vista countdown thing. If it only shows up for Vista users -and even that, for only a chosen few- then I really don't think it can be that important.. It would be unfair.

That's probably it, but with that countdown indicating the 7th - no wonder we're all squeeing all over ourselves in excitement. If it's a Vista glitch, Bill Gates will probably get some grief over this one like he never expected!

I have to admit it gave me a hilarious 30 second daydream - the random thought that Jo might be one of the anonymous guests on here, just settling down for a late night cup of tea and a little browsing the net to see how the fans are reacting to the Wombat, and doing the mother of all spit takes when it appears her release date has been magically moved up!

Re: J.K. Rowling's Official Website Thread v.15

It would be a programming error by whoever designed the gadget, and wouldn't have anything to do with the OS.

But it would be impossible for anyone but Vista users to use the gadget, unless you're running the Sidebar program and Windows Live.

I don't think the date is moved up because Amazon promised me my book on the 21st. I'm going to be quite mad if it's released on the 7th and I don't get it until 2 weeks later.

You would think her "planned-for date" would have been changed before anything with the old date was posted, especially since it has been over 4 months since the new date was released.

Yeah, Tony - you have a point there - you would think that even if Jo's too busy with all the various pre-publication details to catch every single thing, someone at Lightmaker would have caught it.

Someone pointed out that since it's a countdown, rather than a clock, maybe it would change to 22 days at midnight GMT. Which was a few minutes ago. Vista users - any change?

So, I just took the Wombat, and it was hard! I think I failed miserably

Re: J.K. Rowling's Official Website Thread v.15

when you download the vista countdown it says "new book released in 38 days".

clock is beautiful. it has the news link that gives you the news on jo's site, and you can also get to her site by a link at the bottom of the clock.

one thing i hate about the vista gadgets is that this grey box pops up on the right hand side of your desk top and the only thing that is on it is the clock. (edit: i just find a solution for it. you can detach it from the sidebar, and close the sidebar. cool.)

Now the clock says 38 days? Oh well, I guess the 23 days was just a mistake.

The Do Not Disturb sign is off the door, but it won't open for me -- any clue as to why?

you have to download the clock in order for it to work, and to appear on your desktop. the picture olive posted is the template on how the clock is going to look. the 23 days was a place holder I guess.

OK -- I figured out how to get in and took the test - but I must have copied down my code wrong, because it won't accept it ...

Kimagine, have you tried replacing 1 with l or O with 0 and vice versa? I did that with the Wombat 1. Luckily, I'd copied and pasted it into a word doc also so I could recover it.

Re: J.K. Rowling's Official Website Thread v.15

I tried everything -- I just took the test over, which was just as well, because I didn't have "help" the second time, and I actually got to read some of the pages this time before my helper hit the enter button ... But now that I'm in the room with the clock, and it's showing somewhere between grading and delivering results (I have never taken a WOMBAT before), I was wondering: when do we actually get the results?

Re: J.K. Rowling's Official Website Thread v.15

The test will be up for a few more days and then there will be a few days while it's being graded. I could see the solutions going up around the 21st, exactly one month before the book release.
