Yes, that's true. Any trailers should be discussed in the spoiler thread only. This here is a place to discuss expectations of what might be included in DH 2 without any knowledge than the books.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two [NO SPOILERS]

8. How have you found staying spoiler-free so far? Has it been easier or more difficult to stay spoiler-free as we move closer and closer?

As always, I have avoided spoilers like the plague. The most I have indulged myself with in regards to DH Part Two is scraps from the original trailers (for both parts) and the first theatrical poster. However, I do not consider these spoilers: they are quick glimpses and chiefly marketing techniques - not revelations about what is included/what is not. I will certainly watch the trailers when they are released for Part Two.

I have been incredibly busy recently and unable to devote much time to keeping tabs with Harry Potter, so that I have found it relatively easy to remain spoiler-free. I still visit these forums and MuggleNet daily, but these forums especially have restricted spoilers to only one thread. MuggleNet can be difficult to navigate at times, but they seem to be protecting against spoilers (e.g. not putting as revealing of pictures [as with DH Part One] as thumbnails in their headlines) a bit more as well. However, I do have to gloss over many headlines that I will one day read back over!

9. Will you participate in the Quest for the Hallows game?

I have looked into it and done a couple of the activities, but I refuse to look at any inside information about the second movie. The main reason why I am not avidly participating in the Quest for the Hallows is that it is very tedious, time consuming, and slightly dull. I prefer spending my "Harry Potter time" posting on these threads or playing book trivia.

10. Did you watch the ABC Family sneak peak or did you avoid it for spoilers?

I do not have access to ABC Family on television, but I would have avoided it for spoilers even if I had. I have to be careful with a couple of my friends who have seen glimpses, but they know better than to spoil the film for me!

11. What do you think of the new teaser poster? Do you like the High Noon/final showdown concept? Will it get non-fans intruiged?

I think it is a good poster, but I prefer the overall poster of Hogwarts. I like that this poster focuses on the confrontation between Harry and Voldemort without giving anything away (e.g. aspects of their duel, etc.). Will this intrigue non-fans? I do not think it will tremendously impact them one way or the other. It is a nice poster, but it does not have a huge intrigue factor, in my opinion. I think non-fans may actually be slightly bored by it.

Actually it is really not my favorite poster at all. But I think it sums up nicely what this film is and that message will clearly understood by non book readers.

Those of you who answer the question list kindly put together by MatserOfDeath, please remember, if one of you actually watched the ABC teaser, please discuss its contents on the other thread. Mentioning if you did or not is surely unproblematic. Thank you!

Harder. I'm always worried about spoiler-ish sig pics, and offhand comments made in other threads about "since we know they're doing such-and-such with the movie", or "since we know ___'s not going to be in it," being written unintentionally by those who think of them as unproblematic common knowledge.

Quote:
9. Will you particate in the Quest for the Hallows game?
No, too much likelihood of seeing something I don't want to, and from what I hear, not especially enthralling.

Quote:
10. Did you watch the ABC Family sneak peak or did you avoid it for spoilers?
Yes, I did watch it (and thought it mostly unspoilery overall, especially if you don't go online and re-examine it frame by frame, but just watch it as it flashes by).

I'm basically limiting myself to what the average civilian on the street who kind of likes Harry Potter might see, i.e. someone who didn't hang out at Harry Potter websites, or go to see what official promo shots WB has released this week, etc., just to what one would see on TV, normal visits to a movie theater, or on the side of a bus stop.

Quote:
11. What do you think of the new teaser poster? Do you like the High Noon/final showdown concept? Will it get non-fans intruiged?
Spoiler: show
Basically it boiled down the essential concept. Pretty boilerplate. "It comes down to mano-a-mano, now. Harry, Voldy, and the big bad wand." How many movie posters have had this sort of design? It gets the main point across but I don't love it, per se. HP fans already know this, and I don't think it's too intriguing for the man on the street at all.

Quote:
12. What scene do you think will be the most emotional in the film?
Wow, hard to pin down a 'most' here. Harry walking into the forest with his escorts? The scene back at Hogwarts when they realize Harry's alive? Quite likely it could be something we don't even know yet that they're framing it in quite so emotional a way, as in the 'Obliviate' scene of the last movie.

Quote:
13. What scene are you most looking forward to in DH2 at this point?
Overall for DH it was the MoM break-in, which was fairly okay, but didn't live up to all my expectations of course! I don't know if I have one this half. There are so many big scenes here. Besides the ones above, maybe the Fiendfyre scene? Or Ron and Hermione's triumphant return with the fangs? A lot of people seem to be looking forward to Gringotts and the dragon, but that's not as high on my list for some reason.

Quote:
14. How do you think the film will showcase Harry and Voldemort's final showdown? Do you want them to expand on it at all and do you think they will?
Don't want them to, really--I think it was stretched a bit to the top limits as written, really, to get all their thoughts, feelings, and explanations in. But I suspect there will be some sort of expansion or changes as it's the Big Scene.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two [NO SPOILERS]

I thought this idea would be fun for a post-epilogue during the credits...

What about doing this during the Credits:

Do an In Memoriam of missing or previous or lessor characters in the HP series or those missing from the Epilogue. Narrated or silent-written 1-4 line snapshots of their (future) life-story "twitters" with snapshot photos. This 'run the life outcomes' during the credits idea has been used quite successfully in movies past. JKR has plenty of life-story material for this, since she knows the life outcomes & details of many characters beyond what could be written in the books. It would be a really kewl-trivia aspect to HP & a nice farewell to what couldn't be in the movies or even in the books.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two [NO SPOILERS]

Yay! Thank you MasterOfDeath for giving us some fun questions!

8. How have you found staying spoiler-free so far? Has it been easier or more difficult to stay spoiler-free as we move closer and closer?

I don't check Mugglenet much anymore and have been very busy with work so I haven't been on the boards as much. Both make staying spoiler free much easier. Even though I ordered the DVD, I am not planning on watching the opening scene for DH2. That to me would kill so much of my excitement. I always love waiting for Hedwig's Theme to play, seeing the HP logo appear on screen, and guessing where and how the film will start. Obviously, I would still be excited for the film, but knowing that opening scene would detract considerably from my traditional HP viewing experience.

9. Will you participate in the Quest for the Hallows game?

I registered and fooled around on it a bit when it first came out, but have not been back since and don't plan on it. I think it's pretty silly myself and it seems more like promotion for the DVD release rather than something to generate excitement for the final film. Also, did I mention I think it's kind of lame?

10. Did you watch the ABC Family sneak peak or did you avoid it for spoilers?
I did! I didn't really see it as a "sneak peak", more like a DH2 trailer. I don't consider trailers to be spoilers myself unless you pause, rewind, watch frame-by-frame and try to analyze what, where and when each scene is. All the ABC Family sneak peak succeeded in doing was making me EXTREMELY excited for the film!

11. What do you think of the new teaser poster? Do you like the High Noon/final showdown concept? Will it get non-fans intrigued?

Spoiler: show
I wasn't a huge fan of it, to be honest. I think the "It All Ends Here" poster is still the best one by far and away (it's actually my signature on all the other non-HP boards I frequent). I think the new poster might get non-fans intrigued because it definitely makes the film look very intense with both Harry and Voldemort looking all bloodied and staring each other down. I'm not sure why I don't like the poster, but I was not wowed when i saw it. I was pretty underwhelmed by the DH1 posters too though. Perhaps my expectations after that epic "It All Ends Here" poster were just too high.

12. What scene do you think will be the most emotional in the film?
The most emotional part for me to read was definitely The Forest Again and Harry's walk into the forest when he realizes what he has to do and sees Lupin, Sirius, and his parents. I hope they include that one last glance to Ron, Hermione, and Ginny 'cos that will definitely get to me. I remember that part from the books so well. "He felt he would have given all the time remaining to him for just one last look at them; but then, would he ever have the strength to stop looking? It was better like this." If this part is done well I will probably be pretty emotional from here all the way until he wakes up after King's Cross.

Actually, knowing how awesome Alan Rickman is Snape's death will probably get my tear ducts going. Heck, let's face it I'm just going to be a mess for this whole film...especially when I know it's about to end.

13. What scene are you most looking forward to in DH2 at this point?
This is the hardest question ever!

I'm very anxious to see how they portray the Prince's Tale! I hope they will do it justice for all those film only fans so it comes as either a complete shock/confirmation like it was for us book fans. I expect to hear a lot of mumblings in the theater and possibly a lot of 'I knew its', which I would love.

I'll be honest, I'm excited to see 'The Kiss' and how the filmmakers portray it. Especially after all the interviews with both Emma and Rupert describing how awful it was. I'm very curious how it turned out.

I'm probably MOST looking forward to seeing McGonagall call on the school to defend itself though. For some reason I always loved that part in the books. I hope they can manage to show suits of armor coming to life, Hogwarts desks "running" into battle, and the charge of the Hogwarts house elves without seeming too campy/ridiculous. Actually, come to think of it they probably won't even have the house elves since the film hasn't made any mention of them in the castle or the fact that Kreacher works there. Sad...

14. How do you think the film will showcase Harry and Voldemort's final showdown? Do you want them to expand on it at all and do you think they will?

I'm quite confident they will expand on it because I think for all the film only viewers it will seem anti-climactic. I thought the final battle was anti-climactic when I read the book. I had to flip back and make sure that was really it. I do like the simplicity of it all: AK vs good ol' Expelliarmus, but they took out the mention of that being Harry's signature and what gave him away during the Seven Potters scene so...I can see why they might want to expand this duel. I'm wondering if movie only viewers will expect to see Harry's parents like they did in GoF....

I guess how much they expand on or change this scene has to do with how much of the wandlore they explain prior to it. Overall, expanding or changing this would not be something I would mind much. I still hope it is Expelliarmus that ultimately defeats Voldemort and as long as they keep in Harry's confidence, especially him calling Voldemort "Tom" (I always loved that), I'm find with any alterations (within reason).

8. How have you found staying spoiler-free so far? Has it been easier or more difficult to stay spoiler-free as we move closer and closer?

It was fairly easy until the screening happened yesterday. Now I'm finding it extremely hard not to read a scene-by-scene summary of the film.

9. Will you particate in the Quest for the Hallows game?

I need to look into it.

10. Did you watch the ABC Family sneak peak or did you avoid it for spoilers?

I watched it and wasn't spoiled nearly as much as I thought I would be. It was no big deal.

11. What do you think of the new teaser poster? Do you like the High Noon/final showdown concept? Will it get non-fans intrigued?

I like it. The series really is about love's struggles against evil, and that is embodied in Lily's love (Harry) vs. bigotry's hate (Voldemort). The poster is simple and to the point. I don't think it intrigues non-fans that much, however. Most people know about Voldemort. The poster doesn't really tell them anything other than there will be a final battle, which I think everyone knows.

12. What scene do you think will be the most emotional in the film?

Harry's walk to the forest and The Prince's Tale.

13. What scene are you most looking forward to in DH2 at this point?

Good question. Probably Fred's death all the way through through The Forest Again. I can't choose just one scene around there.

14. How do you think the film will showcase Harry and Voldemort's final showdown? Do you want them to expand on it at all and do you think they will?

I like the word battle and simplicity of the book, but know that they will go all out with the physical and magical fighting for the film. It's just to be expected.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two [NO SPOILERS]

Are there no other non-spoiler people on the board?

I'm getting so excited for the DVD release and the final countdown to DH2 and want to discuss!

What things do you think they will change in the film? I'm still stuck on Narcissa's redemption going to Wormtail. I don't know why, but I can't think of any other reason they'd keep Wormtail alive. I also think they're going to cut a lot out of the Battle of Hogwarts. Which characters are you most hoping to see return? I would love to see Oliver Wood, Lee Jordan (even though we haven't seen him in forever), and all the other Hogwarts students we've seen over the years.

Yes, but he comes back! He and George duel - I believe it's Yaxley - at the very end at the same time that Ron and Neville are taking down Greyback. Speaking of something I want to see - THAT would be awesome.

Speaking of people coming back, I hope we get to see Slughorn in the second wave in his emerald green pajamas!

Jim Broadbent, as Slughorn, has such a unique voice. Very kind, gentle, and it's nicely aged with a soothing feel to it. I hope he gets to use his voice too... could be a well deserved hilarious moment within that adrenaline rush setting.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two [NO SPOILERS]

Sorry, but this is really not the thread for discussing the screening or rating the movie, no matter if you use spoiler tags or not. This is a thread discussing your expectations based on the books and the movies which are already released. The only things being close to "spoilers" discussed in here are the posters - since everyone sees them in daily real life anyway.

So please stick to the spoiler thread with everything else. If someone wants their post moved over there aka get it owled, please let me know via owl.

We won't open other threads about DH 2 since the system obviously is already confusing. Futhermore our experience tells us that a too high amount of discussion threads about the same topic unfortunately don't work. Hope you understand. An alternative idea might be to join a social group or open a new one which only discusses parts of the movie after your liking. Thanks.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two [NO SPOILERS]

10. Did you watch the ABC Family sneak peak or did you avoid it for spoilers?

I watched the sneak peek. I don't mind seeing a little footage here and there, or hearing general details. I just don't want to know if Harry tells Ginny goodbye or if they added new dialogue. Knowing that level of detail takes the fun out of actually seeing the film. And I think this film is going to be wonderful so I don't want to ruin it.

11. What do you think of the new teaser poster? Do you like the High Noon/final showdown concept? Will it get non-fans intruiged?

It's fitting, but Voldemort's smashed face look just looks odd when matched up to Harry's. I think it makes him look weaker if anything else. The scariest villians are usually those you don't see much. Having Voldemort framed in on that poster kind of takes away from his mystique.

12. What scene do you think will be the most emotional in the film?

The Prince's Tale - I hope! I think it will have the most emotional impact if they emphasize (1) the friendship between Lily and Snape (while making Snape's internal feelings clear) (2) the bullying between Snape and the Marauders and Snape's jealousy of James (3) the mistakes and sacrifices that Snape made for Lily.

14. How do you think the film will showcase Harry and Voldemort's final showdown? Do you want them to expand on it at all and do you think they will?[/b][/quote]

I think they have to expand on it to make it satisfying on film, and I also think satisfying in general. The wordplay in the book's final battle made sense, but it wasn't as terrifying as a big battle. Still, I hope they don't diminish Voldemort's power. We saw him battle Dumbledore in OOTP and that was mighty impressive magic. If he just shoots some sparks at Harry, I'm going to feel like the filmmakers bought into a longer battle but didn't make it realistic at all.

So how are the past few spoiler free people on this forum doing?

Besides the trailers I haven't seen ANYTHING! Ah I remember the days when I would break within minutes. I am excited to see the film though! It's going to be like saying goodbye to an old friend. I have no doubt it'll be amazing!

It's funny because I could NEVER avoid spoilers before Part 1. I atleast listened to that soundtrack before. This time I know basically nothing (besides a few things I read by mistake) I think it makes me even more excites. I can't believe it's almost over!

You're not alone!

I completely caved for part one, but aside from the ABC Family trailer from months ago,I have remained thoroughly unspoiled for this one.
