Re: Triwizard Tournament: What would have been your strategy?

I really like this thread.

Task 1: The broomstick seemed like an obvious choice but only after Harry did it. I would love to see how the other contestants completed that task. For me, I would have to rely on my stealth and speed and send spells around the dragon to distract it. I would not think about hitting the dragon with the spell, that just seems dumb.

Task 2: The task itself is easy, the preparation is tough. If I was ever able to find out the message, I would have to find a way to do the bubble charm, it seemed liked the most efficient.

Task 3: This task would be great with a broom stick like stated before. Another strategy would be to just burn the maze, but we all saw how Fiendfyre reacts. Just a thought.

I guess the whole point is that only the best wizards are chosen so that's why their strategies are best.

Even if the Goblet wasn't aware of that possibility, Dumbledore certainly would have been. So I don't think it was possible for someone else to enter your name.

Cedric transformed a rock into a dog to distract the dragon, Krum hit it in the eye with a spell and Fleur put it in a trance.

My first attempt would have been to summon the egg but otherwise I like Sirius and Krum's idea: hit the eye with a spell.

Wolfbro, you do realize that's exactly what Moody/Crouch did, entered someone else's name, Harry's.

What I'm finding hard to believe is that in all the previous years of the Tournament no one else thought to pull this as a prank on another student. If they had there would have been something put into place to prevent it (like how DD added the age line to this Tournament for "safety").

Yeah, I can't see how nobody else had tried to do that in the past, putting their friend's name in as a joke...and I mean, doesn't someone even ask Harry that? If he had asked a student who was of age to put in his name? Why the Goblet doesn't have some sort of proscription against that, I don't know. But it should.

As for what I would do...

First task: I don't think I can improve on the broomstick idea, really. The only other thing I can think of is putting the dragon to sleep somehow. Preferably before it even knows I'm there, so it doesn't get agitated beforehand.

Second task: I'd be researching the heck out of how to breathe underwater. Unless there was a way to accio the person...but since you probably wouldn't know who...I can't see that working out very well. Hmm. Maybe there's a way to transfigure yourself into something that the grindylows and merpeople would take no notice of...

Third task: You might as well try the broom idea again...

Crouch fooled the Goblet into accepting Harry's name under a fourth school. I don't think the average seventh year would have the capability to fool the Goblet.

Also, the goblet was never designed for the purpose of excluding entrants. The age restriction was new, and the defences against young entrants were external.

The 'fourth school' thing was not for the purpose of getting Harry's name in the goblet; it was so that he would be absolutely ensured to be selected. It also was probably done to avoid too much trouble on Harry's part. The way it went down, it didn't look like Harry could have put his own name in the goblet (to any objective person), seeing as that wouldn't have resulted in four champions.
