Re: Baseball Thread

Not gonna happen . We're gonna beat the Rangers on national T.V. Hopefully the Sox's bats can finally wake up, because our infielders all aren't that great at hitting.

Well were gonna see then. But who knows? I have to say though my friends are going for the Sox and I'm a Yanks fan so you know.

Re: Baseball Thread

The Red Sox? Don't they have to escape Kansas City first? It'll be interesting to see if Gil Meche can continue to pitch like an ace for a team that everyone expects to be mediocre at best.

How did the Nats game turn out?

Looks like the Mets are off and running at the Cardinals' expense. As a lifetime Cubs fan, I suppose I'm obligated to be glad that the Cardinals are struggling, but I dislike the Mets and I enjoy watching Puljols light up scoreboards.

Re: Baseball Thread

We (Nats) ended up going down 9-3, an improvement from our 9-2 loss yesterday. Plus we lost 2 players to injuries on the first day with Christian Guzman and Kook Logan goin down. They're expected back in 2-3 weeks. I dont know a whole lot about Logan. Guzman is either one of the best leadoff men in the league or hes one of the worst. Either way hes never been a great fielder and his leg injuries have been takin away from his speed, one of his key attributes. Oh well. Give us 10 years and we'll make the playoffs!!!

Re: Baseball Thread

Don't count on it--remember I'm a Cubs fan. It takes decades, as in plural, to build a playoff team in some places.

Who were the Nats playing?

Did the White Sox play? Please tell me the Indians pasted them again.

Nats played the Marlins. Not an elite team but not one of the bottom-scrapers either.

Re: Baseball Thread

Well, aren't the Marlins supposed to have a solid core--I mean maybe solid enough that if their pitchers don't break down they might challenge for the wild card? Or am I still behind the times?

So, you don't like Guzman--is Logan good when he's healthy? I'm sorry, I don't know much about the Nats.

Re: Baseball Thread

No you're up with the times. The Marlins have a lot of good young players in Miguel Cabrera, D-Train, Dan Uggla, Anibal Sanchez, Hanley Ramirez and others and will definitely be in contention for a playoff spot. Still they are very young and inexperienced with no one siginificant I can think of over 25 and there manager is a rookie manager as well. I can see them making the playoffs either through the wild card or out of the East but I would be scholed to see them win a playoff series. They definitely have a bright future though.

I don't blame you for not knowing much. live in L.A. and its hard enough to get news about a last place team and being on the other side of the country makes it more difficult but I still follow them as closely as I can. From what I've seen (and read) about Logan he is a solid young outfielder that can run, hit, and field well enough to earn him a starters spot. Is he an all-star player no, but he is an everyday guy with some potential.

Re: Baseball Thread

So, his loss is deeply felt. Who's the manager for the Marlins now? I know Girardi got shoved out the door after doing a Manger-of-the-Year quality job with them (I wish he was managing the Cubs instead of Sweet Lou).

Re: Baseball Thread

Well hes only gone for a few weeks so at least its not too serious.

The manager of the Marlins is Fredi Gonzalez who was an assistant in Atlanta if I'm not mistaken. I don't know a whole lot about him.

Re: Baseball Thread

I don't recognize the name, and I used to follow Atlanta pretty closely when they had Maddux as a part of their three-ace monster staff. As a Nats fan perhaps you could help me recall a name--they used to have a hitter who everyone thought was a five-tool player, the only weapon in their arsenal and he was a lead-off hitter for awhile and then--I think the second year in Washington he either got traded or jumped ship for more money. Does that sound familiar? I can't think of a name, but I'm sure I'm describing a Nat and Expo.

Re: Baseball Thread

Umm that could have been Brad Wilkerson, Jose Vidro or CHristian Guzman. Guzman is still with us, Wilkerson was traded last year and Jose Vidro left in the offseason. I'm pretty sure ur thinking of Wilkerson. He was our leadoff man most of the time until he was traded in the Alfonso Soriano deal last year.

Alex Rodriguez is ridiculous. I don't even know what to say about what he's doing right now.

The only thing I care about is that the Cards are Champs and that they beat the Cubs today.

Re: Baseball Thread

I remember that after witnessing Albert Pujols' huge April last year, with 14 home runs and however many RBI's, I never thought it would ever be matched. Didn't take long for someone to do it did it

A-Rod hit two dingers, breaking the record for most in the shortest time 12 home runs in 15 games, and he has 30 RBIs already! This guy's on fire!

Re: Baseball Thread

Royals beat the Twins yesterday! That was a really fun game to watch (even if I watched it on television!). It was back and forth until fifth inning and that was awesome. It was 4 to 2 and then the Royals got 5 runs, while going around the roster (10 batters in one inning!) in the fifth inning.

Best of all... Kaufman Stadium had the second biggest walk-in (getting the tickets when they arrived at the stadium) attendance in the last 10 years in that stadium.

It was an amazing game!
